I really don't understand the animosity toward Alex in these comments, he routinely does a good & entertaining job whenever he's on.

Because people are assholes.

There was a match against two DBZ characters on saltybet, a friend chimed in that they would time out because they'd be too busy just shouting at each other. They timed out three rounds in a row, because of course they would.

As far as Saint's Row IV goes, it still boggles the mind that any sort of censorship of art still exists. Age gates are perfectly okay, but the Australian board is telling their populace that even grown men and women can't handle offensive art with these decisions. It's complete insanity.

Happy to hear Alex is on the Bombcast this week.

As a bombcast listener from day one, the only negative quality about this podcast is the occasional email that is a repeat of a question already asked ages ago which the crew doesn't remember and answers it again anyway. This wouldn't be as much of a problem except that across all the times they answer the question they sometimes give a shittier answer which is a rather bizarre exercise to witness. They reached a resolute and satisfying conclusion concerning Doom 3, the best console launch titles, and the console vs. PC FPS before but here they are again as if they never did. Maybe they realize it and don't care which is fine (well, either way it's fine because who am I to really push it) but it's the one thing that stands out as kinda janky in an otherwise amazing body of work.

Just as an example, this is probably the 5th time they've discussed Doom 3, and the 3rd or 4th time they've discussed console vs PC shooters (and the 2nd or 3rd time Jeff told that exact Halo PR story.) I don't even blame them really. Much like Jeff's theory that if you talk into microphones every day you're bound to predict anything, the inundation of the same question is bound to hit more than once. But then again emails and user questions (except amongst those all time greats) were always the weakest part of any feature or video on the site.

LINE is a chat client, similar to Whats App and Kakaotalk...they also put out mobile games under the LINE name. Such as a bejeweled rip off for example.

Man...I am really getting tired of the DOTA2 domination on this website.

DOTA conversation starts at 0:39:19 and ends at 0:51:09. That's 11m50s out of 3h27m25. That's 5-6% of the show's duration.

Personaly I don't care about Animal Crossing.I tried that game and I find it boooooring. To each their own.

Puzzle & Dragons in Japan has scary amounts of people streaming their playing of it, to give an idea of its size, and then every single person I know there who doesn't own a 3DS have an MH4 bundle on pre-order.

Puzzle & Dragons is pretty freaking great though. Just hold onto your wallets.

Nice job on providing some context. From the way people go on sometimes, you'd think they spent 2 hours on DOTA.

Fact is, it's a slow time of year and there aren't many big releases atm. If they didn't talk about DOTA, this weeks Bombcast would just be 11 minutes shorter, there wouldn't be 11 minutes of different discussion.

A propos of the Steam purchasing from a different territory.

Some Bethesda (and probably others as well) games, like Skyrim and Rage aren't (or at least weren't) available in my territory, because they somehow transferred the sales and managing of those games in Russian speaking countries to 1C (at least I remember it being them).

I'm in Lithuania, which while being close to Russia, is a member of the European Union, a sovereign nation and NOT a RUSSIAN TERRITORY. I couldn't buy those games on Steam (I suppose they had versions in stores, but why would I go to a fucking store for the first time in 10 years).

So while visiting my mother in Switzerland I bought those games on Steam, at least I think from the Swiss version of the store. I entered my credit card information (Visa Electron, which is only used for online stuff), while giving the address of the my mom's place (where I stayed for maybe a week).

It worked and I have those games in my Steam library, and even now I'm able to purchase games not available in my "territory" for some dumb fucking reason, because it saved my credit card info. All the prices are the same Europe-wide, and it's all in euros. So maybe Steam is more lenient about that stuff than it seams.

Of course I'm probably being a bit too blatant about all this stuff. The Steam police is gonna get me.

I think Jeff's idea of difficulty in video games is warped.

@dr_mantas: Hello sir, this is the Valve police. We;d like to take a look at some of your recent Steam receipts, you do know you're not supposed to be playing Skyrim? Lithuania wasn't greenlit for Skryim consumption sir.

I haven't watched any pro-rassling in a long time, but I couldn't help but project the bad side of WCW, as written about by Mick Foley ("Have a Nice Day") and Chris Irvine ("A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex"), onto the direction TNA was appearing to take.

I haven't watched the show in ages though. Felt the same about WWE in general. Lots of great talent that never really got the push they probably deserved while everything continued to revolve around John "Pretty Much Goku" Cena.

Any chance of reviving Scrub League to feature M.U.G.E.N.?

Started listening during my commute this morning, quite literally as I was in the process of driving into Dade County from Broward County :(

Edited by Humanity

At one point I started wondering how does the younger audience feel when listening to the Bombcast. I'm 28 and some of those references they make kind of go over my head but if you're 19 and they start talking about stuff like Cocoon it seems like you'd be kind of out of the loop for really long stretches of time.

The LINE mentioned in 3:15:00 is the phone app LINE. (I have no idea why its in all caps). It's almost literally beat for beat an asian clone of WhatsApp in every way, and its userbase is just as huge. It is slightly better than Whatsapp though because it has a desktop and Windows 8 tablet version in addition to the covering all the phone platforms like Whatsapp does.

Goddammit Jeff, this weeks Bombcast cover is too good.

I'll back the e-mail from Japan, iPhone games are king on the subway, but I still see the occasional PSP with MH running. Also 3DS MH is out next month so who knows. Puz Dragon is hot here, LINE is a chat program for phones that has games attached to it that aren't half bad. Phones are hot right now, at least where I live around Tokyo. Really helps on those long commutes, and easy to use when standing up.

Phones are hot everywhere. I can't even imagine how it might be in Japan, where public settings are dominated by tech.

I think, although the 3DS is cool, and the 3D makes it stand out from other handheld game devices, I can't possibly see proprietary handheld gaming consoles surviving the next 10 years.

But, here's a little rant:

I'm really starting to hate the internet consensus from people who watched wrestling in the Attitude Era who barely watch today's WWE product and dismiss it as "terrible". The product as of the last 5 months has been rather stellar, and I really dislike it when "fans" of wrestling discount everything that happens currently just because it's new, especially when they don't follow it that often.

Discounting a few epic things, mostly from the main event side, the Attitude Era wasn't really all that hot. WWE's product has been off and on in terms of quality since about 2007, but it has been quite good the past few years in general, barring a few classic, terrible booking decisions. It happens.

You know, I'm starting to warm up to Alex. For some reason, he never clicked with me before, but hearing him more recently(such as on the morning thing with him and Patrick) and reading his Twitter more, I'm coming around. Plus, his Guns of Navarro articles are pretty consistently excellent. I wouldn't mind seeing him around more.

Bioshock Infinite did have Move support. Pretty much any time a PS3 question comes up the Giant Bomb guys will confidently give the incorrect answer, instead of just saying they don't know for sure.

In my own experience the region specifics of a game bought on Steam comes down to which region the serial key is for. So for example when my mate, who has a UK Steam account, bought Left For Dead 2 he got the uncut one(and soon we all had the uncut version!). So getting around this is not to tricky if you know where to go, like a gate for gamers with a UK address , or something like that. Anyway part of the fun of being an Australian is finding a work around for bullshit.

Thats pretty much true for UK/Germany ... as a german people in the UK can gift me games and I will get the uncut version. Games that require steamworks that I buy from amazon.uk also work perfectly fine.

I'm just chiming in out of curiosity. In a lot of these comment sections, there are rumors of Brad's leaving. Is that rampant internet speculation or is this a confirmed thing from a place of actual knowledge? I even googled this darn rumor and it seems like speculation of Brad leaving, specifically to IGN for some reason, have been popular for some time now, dating back years. To be honest, out of all the guys, I could see Brad leaving due to the sadness of current events. It would stink, but be understandable.

Edited by GTCknight

@djm389: The whole Brad is leaving thing is just a meme and nothing more.

I'd have to agree completely with the GB crew this week, Nascar has to have a college version (like many other sports) & I for one would love seeing college Nascar over normal Nascar racing.
