After the music tag for Dan's Story Time I'm back on board with Brad as podcast host in a big way.

Posted by paulunga

HAHAHA, I love how Dan talks about his dad's defense mechanism as if he isn't the same way. Aioli is mayonnaise!

Take the fungi, Brad.

2:28:04. Had to pause the podcast for laughing too hard. Are there any stories Dan has that shouldn't start with that qualifier?

Posted by Three0neFive

UUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH.

Jeff likes Diablo 3 and Metal Gear Solid 2.

You're hilarious Jeff, but sometimes you're just so damn wrong! Dan and Brad's points about mgs3's well-written story were spot on. Conversely, MGS2 has a story that is BULLSHIT from this line onward:
I live on, through this ARM!
Guess good story writing is just something Jeff doesn't care about.

I get the feeling you didn't understand MGS2's plot, because if you actually pay attention it's pretty clear that Ocelot's just fucking with him.

Dan says he doesn't like anime but says he likes MGS, Fire Emblem, and Ace Combat.

Yeah. We believe you, Dan.

And the WWE. which is pretty anime.

also MGS is kind of a remake of Metal Gear 2 in a lot of ways. Also Ghost Babel is also kind of a re-imagining of Metal Gear 2 too.

Also, MGS2 has maybe the best gameplay of the series, and the whole jet fighter sequence is hilarious and amazing. "NO! THAT IS NOT SOLID SNAKE" and of course "I'll let you go out in style". What a game. Hara-Kiri Rock.

And MGS3 is cool as hell, and while they should have had a camo quick select, like you only need 5 over the course of the game and you really barely needed to switch them. As well, the little easter eggs and secrets were soooooo cool. As well as just how cool the items you got, only eclipsed by the stuff in 4.

"Metal Gear Solid isn't anime, because I don't like anime."

A FEW HOURS LATER

"My dad has this thing where if he can't or doesn't want to accept something, he simply won't."

TOTES WEIRD, THAT.

100% agree with Dan. Metal Gear Solid is the best video game story every made, hell I would say it's one of my favorite stories period of any medium.

You sure you're saying that just based off of 2, or after playing 4?

@brad, it might be best if you put the link to the survey either in the description or as the first comment so it is easier for listeners to fill out that survey.

Yeah Jeff, Metal Gear is moe as FUCK.

Also, I agree with Jeff on most of his MGS opinions, besides 4. Fuck that game. It became so bogged down and suffocated by the ridiculous, convoluted plot the series had built up. I didn't get much enjoyment sitting completely still, doing nothing, while characters in the game talked for like 30 minutes straight, non-stop exposition, explaining all the convoluted bullshit. That game was a mess. The 10 minutes of gameplay were mildly enjoyable though.

People who enjoy the series enjoy it exactly for that lore. Because it's totally awesome that I played MGS in high school and then years later I'm playing MGS4 and it has plot call backs to MGS. It's a complicated timeline but that doesn't automatically convoluted - which is what most people mistake it for, usually people that haven't played all the games.

Some stuff is silly and ridiculous but thats part of the fun. I dunno, I feel as if you either love it or you don't. I'm much like Dan and get super giddy whenever I see anything Metal Gear because I just love everything about the series. The box, the gags, the character design - love it.

People who claim that everyone who enjoys drinking are alcoholics are some of my absolute least favorite people. Getting drunk is fun for a lot of people, surprise!

Getting super drunk occasionally is not a sign of anything. Getting super drunk daily is perhaps more of an issue. Not recognising the difference just makes you seem kind of childish.

I don't want to incite anything, but does it have something to do with the American culture? In Europe most countries have a drinking age for beer and wine of 16, so drinking is just accepted as perfectly normal. I don't really know much about America, I'm just curious

In the U.S. you do have sheltered kids who've never had a drop of alcohol in life, then go to college and go off their gourds with binge drinking. I did it myself, more than a few times. But to me there's an age where you stop acting like a college kid. In the wrestling interview clip, Dan told Stone Cold about getting blitzed on cheap beer and malt liquor- exactly the m.o. of a bunch of my friends in college.

But dude, when you're pushing 30, that shit needs to get ramped down. Not judging Dan, nor do I think he's some raging alcoholic, but bragging about getting blackout drunk's a bad look.

dan you are denpriving yourself of anime because you would probably go wild for it if you like the writing in MGS

I have to say, Kojima's metal gear series cannot be summed up well by anyone, it's so convoluted and confusing. I've watched numerous videos that try to make a coherent synopsis or at least make an effort to introduce characters descriptions and stories, and it's always far more dense than any story ever needs to be, so much so in fact that I have watched many an anime over the years going all the way back to dragonball. Kojima is the densest story creator I have ever tried to grasp. Dan Kojima is far more confusing than any anime, at least with most anime if you start from the beginning you can get it pretty simply because concepts are introduced examined and held on to. Kojima has introduced so many concepts and ideas and then never touched that thing for like 2 decades then revisits it in one single cutscene after all of that time. It's really quite annoying.

@rockykev: Just to let you know, sometimes you won't be able to view premium features until you log out and back in again. That was the case for me, just thought I'd let you know as there's no Gold thing under your Avatar.

Edited by RockyKev

@iamnotbatman Hmm... I didn't even bother to look! Thanks for the friendly advice!

Yeah, it looks like I can't access the premium stuff, and I tried logging in and out. I'm not worried. I'll wait until the weekend to see if that'll fix it up, with it being labor day weekend and all.

MGS 3 is one of the best video games of all time. I think it balanced all its systems perfectly and I loved the Japanese take on a Cold War era spy story. The introduction of the 3D camera in Subsistence made it even better.

I also don't get it when people say the story in Metal Gear games is confusing. Sure they are complicated but just play through them in release order as Kojima intended and it all comes together perfectly except for a few retcons, in fact I kind of get annoyed how often those games feel the need to explain things over and over again several times.

Posted by REVULSIVE

dan you are denpriving yourself of anime because you would probably go wild for it if you like the writing in MGS

Don't bother trying to convince him, Dan works in illogical ways. That's why he makes sweeping statements like "I hate anime." It's like saying "I hate soda," or "I hate video games." It's not all the same, there's a ton of variety, so there's bound to be something you'll like! But sadly, that is the fallacy of Dan.
