I need to go back and try playing The Last Of Us again. I tried playing on Hard and I was just getting bored and frustrated with it. I felt the game was trying to force me into clearing out areas early on so I sorta adopted this mentality of needing to clear out areas and it was becoming increasingly difficult as there were more Clickers about (or even impossible sometimes). Then a friend said that you should almost always just try and avoid them. I'm also awful with aiming on the PS3 controller so I would get nervous about trying to shoot things in the head in one shot. Perhaps I would have more interest in playing on a lower difficulty but maybe if I get past the first bits I'll find more enjoyment with hard.

He didn't say The Last of Us was bad...? He just said he didn't like the gameplay at all but has a ton of respect for the story and the technical aspects.

No more so than people in this thread (and the internet in general) need to learn the difference between someone not liking something and them being "wrong."

I thought The Last of Us was good overall, but I can't disagree with anyone saying they didn't like the gameplay. I didn't either, and it definitely hindered my willingness to get through the game (though I did eventually). But then I also thought that the shooting and encounters were the weakest part of the Uncharted series.

I actually like Glenn Beck a lot...and Rush Limbaugh less so, but I enjoy things he does sometimes.

Don't like it when these guys speak out of their ignorance about those kinds of things.

@mormonwarrior: What was ignorant about their caricatures of those guys? It's your prerogative to like crazy people, but don't get upset when other people call them crazy.

Their "Rush Limbaugh talks about Killer Instinct" bit was pretty hysterical.

They're radio personalities that say a lot of stuff, so they're occasionally inflammatory or speak in hyperbole like anybody else in the business. I wouldn't classify either guy as a crazy person though. I've listened to a lot of Glenn Beck over the years and he can be on the paranoid side at times, but he's a genuine, decent guy that tries to back up his claims with research and fact. He's done a lot of good in this world and the crowd he tends to attract are honest, reasonable and kind-hearted people. I can understand entirely why you wouldn't like him, but the stereotypical claims of "lol he's so nutso" come off as somebody who has only heard of him by way of Colbert or Stewart or has looked up the wildly inaccurate Wikipedia page for him.

Anyway. Just one small detail of a generally very good Bombcast. Just something that irked me is all. Looking forward to/dreading the GOTY podcasts. Rayman Legends isn't going to get its due I fear.

@mormonwarrior: That's fine if you wouldn't classify Glenn Beck as a crazy person, but I bet if you went around a took a poll you would be in the extreme minority. Heck, go ahead and start one on Giantbomb.

Anyway, this ain't no politickin' site, but you can't be too butt hurt about 5 guys living in the bay area not liking Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. In other news the sky is blue and waters wet.

Anyway, this episode seemed pretty light on gaming. Must have been a slow news week. (keep refreshing Kotaku!)

It kind of bums me out how Brad is using the last hour and a half of The Last of Us being good to ignore how crap the first 2/3 of it are. That stealth gameplay is downright rotten.

Glenn Beck is a genuine decent guy? How can you know? You said it yourself, he's a personality. You're buying into the personality that he's presenting.

It's true that he backs up what he claims with "research" but it's always pointed research that never challenges what he already believes. Have you ever seen him interview a person who fundamentally disagrees with his world view? I haven't. The guys exists in a bubble. And it doesn't matter how many "facts" he presents-- anyone who legitimately tries to claim that the current US administration is Marxist is clearly a dolt who has a fundamental misunderstanding of Marxism.

"the crowd he tends to attract are honest, reasonable and kind-hearted people"

Clearly you haven't read any of the comments on The Blaze.

Glenn Beck is a fear-mongering, regressive nut who believes in an ideal of America that never existed and can never exist. His distortion of American history is so profoundly warped and misleading.

I can only pray that his insane worst case fear scenario of a totalitarian socialist revolution does actually happen so him, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and the rest of the far right group of loud-mouth, idiot psychopaths are the first to be publicly executed.

How the heck is a website like Stamps.com making money? And I highly doubt that Giantbomb contains their target audience. Do that many people really buy more than one set of stamps a year? At least the Bombcast could make the advertisement enjoyable though.

They actually sponsor a lot of podcasts, I guess it's cheaper than buying time on the radio.

The VGX thing comes off as non-Aisha Tyler people who are too busy and frankly too well-off to find video games to be anything more than just cell-phones, for kids, or for those GAMERS, so the jokes come from that (the first two are the joke tellers and off-limits respectively). This is DESPITE the audience always being someone to take offense, but they've found they can get away with it, so...

So that one email, does hating on Majora's Mask count as S&M? :P

Jeff needs to come up with better criticism than "I just didn't enjoy playing it". At least try to analyze what about it you're not enjoying.

Why? He didn't enjoy the gameplay. That's fair enough. And it's not really surprising, with a few exceptions (MGS 4, Mark of the Ninja comes to mind), Jeff has never liked stealth gameplay in games.

It's just not very interesting to listen to. Here is this hugely acclaimed game, and the only thing you can say about it is that you don't enjoy it. Not really the making of a good discussion, and it comes across as a bit arrogant.

I don't think it comes across as arrogant. It would be arrogant if he said that the people who liked it were wrong for liking it, but he didn't. And I have no real problems with him dismissing the gameplay like that. He said he played a couple of hours of the game, and didn't at all like how it played. He could maybe have explained why a bit better, but I expect that to be part of the GOTY podcast(s).

If you want to understand what is wrong in America...look no further than Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O'Reilly. They are in the business of mass hysteria, not news. News doesn't sell "books", if you can classify what they pay people to write and then sell as books, but mass hysteria, particularly pertaining to the hyper-conservative, seems to sell "books" pretty well. I would love to see any one of them, and any member of the Tea Party for that matter, actually live in a totalitarian, "Marxist" society. They would be crying for 2013 America within an hour.

Needless to say, while I truly believe in the freedom to believe in what you want, those guys should be taken behind a shed and shot...because they are no longer allowing others to believe for themselves, which is probably a much bigger indictment against the American public at large than against them, but rather force feed garbage they call "news" and "truth" to people who, unfortunately, do not know any better.

Edited by deerokus

No Man's Sky look amazing, but it doesn't seem SO wildly ambitious that I understand why the guys think it will be incredibly hard for them to achieve. There are games which have done chunks of this stuff already, specially Evochron Mercenary (made by one guy) and Space Engine (which isn't a game mind you). This adds life forms and some kind of planet exploration gameplay, of course, which seems the natural evolution of this sort of thing.

The game is incredibly immersive to me, just the way you move around the environments and how at times in stealth/action encounters, things can change dynamically.

Just ignore the terrible ai right?

That and some of the segments at the end that felt like padding were my only gripes. The ai specifically was mind numbing at times.

@sooty: Bad A.I.? Friendly or enemy? I thought the enemies were alright, the friendly A.I. were great too and quite helpful. My only complaint about the A.I. and it's really negligible since it doesn't bother me, and I feel like they'd have to do something else entirely, is that the enemies can't see the friendly A.I.
