I like it.

Sweet, that was quite insightful

Why did Brad think this game took place in modern day? They've been very straight forward with the time period from the beginning.

Man, Brad makes better subheadings than Alex.

The man !

@taku128: In the gameplay video that they just posted it shows the date at the beginning of the mission and it says September 21 2013 because it was being shown at TGS. Brad must have just thought that it was the actual date that the mission was supposed to take place.

Is Kojima the RZA of video games?

Until Kojima makes a GI-Joe video game featuring himself as a brand new blind member of the Arashikage ninja clan (fuck it, make MGS part of GI Joe canon) then he has not reached the heights (lows) of the RZA.

next time bring a big chrome desert eagle and you'll be drinking shooters and shootin seagulls off a boat in the hudson with kojima

@taku128: In the new gameplay trailer (old, but with English commentary) it says September 2013 so that confused me as well. Brad just didn't phrase the question precisely enough. Also I would have liked to hear about the decision to make the health regenerative, the ration system definitely encouraged to play the game stealthily as you'd lose less health.

So this is something like Dead Rising's Case Zero?

Very cool little interview there.

Modern Day? Braaad, you're embarrassing meee.

I thought Kojima understood English

Well, if you watch the trailer, it's presented as if it takes place in modern day because it says "September 21st, 2013 18:06 U.S. Naval Prison Facility, Cuba". It to me, is extremely easy to make the mistake. Watch the trailer, and around 1:03, it says that as if, in the game, it takes place in 2013.

It still confuses me. Why would they present it that way? It's just kind of weird.

Brad didn't check anything did he?
Ugh, I cringed at that question.

I don't think it's a big deal to be confused about when the hell a Metal Gear game takes place at this point.

The initial speculation was all over the place. A lot of people thought Solid Snake might have been involved.

Hell, he still might. Anything is on the table.

I don't know man. Who can tell when a Metal Gear Solid game takes place? They all have futuristic technology in them. The one that took place in the 60's had hover platforms and an electro suit and this one looks like it has some kinda hologram communicator thingy. Plus it doesn't help that Big Boss and Snake look the same.

@suits: I also liked Altair disguises in MGS 4.

@ntm: I think someone here said that it's actually because the trailer was originally shown at TGS in September. Still, pretty baffling that they'd just leave it there like that. People here don't seem to understand why Brad would ask that question but if you watch the trailer it's no wonder he asked about it.

Edited by NTM

@thebigzed: Exactly. I was asking a similar question over at Gametrailers and people didn't understand why I would see it that way either, when I believe it's clear as to why it's a confusing way to present something.

@ntm: Like many have said MGS man. Game is crazy, I wouldn't put anything past Kojima at this point and no plot twist is out of bounds for him.

I am more surprised people are surprised he asked :P

No, it does take place in 1975, it just, to me at least, was presented somewhat badly.

maybe someday I'll just give in and embrace the kojima madness. I think it's all just too much for me

Edited by DoctorSpaghetti

I think people overstate the unpredictability of Metal Gear Solid games. Kojima hasn't dared pull anything remotely crazy since the MGS2 switcharoo.

Usually the crazy comes in the first reveal trailer and then everything unfolds as plainly as you expect it to.

Doesn't stop frothing fans going nuts about ridiculous "X is Y" theories though. You'd think after three mainline MGS titles without any kind of major shock or change like Raiden was they'd give it up.
