Jeff getting it done like a baws.

That controller looks a bit top heavy to me.

Does anyone know how Sony is handling this installing games to the system/licensing issues stuff?

I'm assuming their games will be also installing to the Hard Drive. Maybe the disc itself will act as the game ownership license? Like you still install the game, but you can't play it without simply having the disc in the machine, as opposed to an online pass or key code thing. That would certainly solve the problem and make it act basically the same as physical disc games do now.

"Xbox one was about building credibility. Xbox 360 was about trying to get on equal footing, and not just prove but compete. And I think with Xbox One we're trying to take all the assets we have, all the learning that we have..."

Nailed it guys. I don't really care about the name but I did find that pretty funny.

jeff is legit telling about how they open their wallet

Edited by MEATBALL

I hope their reluctance to confirm anything means they could very well wind up completely reconsidering the route it has sounded like they're going down. Personally if they don't it's a dealbreaker for me.

I'm not super interested in the stuff they showed off last night, but then that's how Microsoft Conferences seem to typically go under Don Mattrick. I'm sure the system will have some great games, though, and that controller looks slick.

Man, the whole "snap" name for their feature is so dumb, particularly hearing someone use it in normal conversation.

Ah man, Jeff not buying into this guy's Call of Duty garbage, great.

One of the things I prefer about consoles is the freedom I have with my retail purchases. If that freedom goes away my interest thoroughly drains.

Nice that people complaining about the loss of the consumer rights they're used to having is dismissed just as people on the internet complaining because that's what they do. I'm sure Microsoft will be successful in spite of people like me, but that doesn't make it any less sad that they're opting to completely ignore what a significant portion of those who really care about games really want.

what is this..........

Albert Penello: 'We wouldn't be having exclusive Call of Duty DLC if Activision didn't believe in our plan for this generation.'

Jeff: 'Well, sometimes you just open your wallet and that stuff just kind of happens, you know...?'

Edited by Tennmuerti

Nice, he completely dodged properly answering the used/borrowed/rental games question with a "story".

... and another dodge on the store pricing flexibility, this time not even hiding it.

Posted by wumbo3000

He called the original Xbox "Xbox 1." Tee hee. Confusion already.

'Xbox One was about building credibility. Er, Xbox 360 was about, you know, trying to get on equal footing and not just prove but compete. And, I think, with the Xbox One we're trying to take all the assets that we have—all the learning that we have...'

Bravo, Microsoft

Brand confusion. I'm all for it.

Oh hey, I have an Xbox 1! Does that mean I'm ready for next gen games?

Edited by ZironZ

The audio quality on this one sounds a little rough. It sounds like it needs a bit higher bitrate.

@hmacyfan4eva:

But then you'd still have to get up every time you wanted to switch games. Maybe if you only had to put the disc in once a week or something..

Even with a pretty good level headed totally candid interview the slum of giant bomb manages to slither in.

Slum? What?

This guy said Grok. Fuck this guy. I dunno, he just kinda seems like a marketing guy who acts like he kinda knows internet things, but then he says something really dated or out of touch with the community and that facade crumbles.

Edited by Voxatron

Freudian slip right after addressing the issue. Are You Serious? PR Guy in tow too the whole time. Bodes just so incredibly well for the future Microsoft. wow. Guess we know the answer to that last question. Subtle much?

Posted by EnchantedEcho

Good job at not playing nice the whole time, the pricing on Xbox Live is an issue and I glad you brought it up.

An awful interview.

Don't mince your words, ask direct questions.

I feel like a lot of things I hear about the new Xbox is just like "Hey, believe us...you're gonna love it...trust us...I promise just wait...you'll love it".

I dunno...I'm not feeling it.

Anything about the rumors of a "sponsored" price?

Because if it is supposed to be an 'all in one' media center and appeal to a larger audience, and not just gamers, then would you really pay $300 when there are way cheaper alternatives around?

Though if they where able to subsidize it with adds and get the price down to around $150 (this is just a random number I have no idea if this would be possible) then I could definitely see potential.

Maybe gamers do crave this media center enough to go for Xbox One over PS4, I guess only time will tell.

So, would it be fair to say Microsoft are suffering from 3rd Console arrogance?

This over reliance on TV, Sports and other non-gaming peripheral nonsense is going to lead to their downfall. They seem insistent that the games market will follow their plans into this awful DRM-laden, no used games bullshit.

I'm sorry, but if I buy I product I don't expect to rent it for 6-7 years and not be able to as I please with the software that I own, be that lending it to a friend or playing offline.

I sincerely hope the PS4 doesn't allow for draconian measures seen in Xbox One. I'm just waiting for Sony's announcement that they'll allow the exact same things then I can skip this entire console generation.

@scampbell: I think 300$ is waaaaay too low already. Sponsored price might be like 500$ imho.

Posted by ectoplasma

@printedcrayon: I'm pretty sure MS tries to position themselves in a different market segment than Sony. I read the offer as follows: Yo Sony, you can have the "core gamers", but we take all the Moms (Wiis old segment) but also the Dads + we take the NFL and CoD buyer. Sony is "the gamer's console", they had Jonathan Blow and so on, MS has media. Plus MS needed to split their showing because they revealed so close to E3.

Good job calling him out on his Activision exclusive DLC BS.

Posted by otoboke

And Jeff was never heard from again.

No but seriously, great set of pressing questions and simply not willing to get down and roll in their exclusive DLC belief-economy bullshit was brilliant. Hesitant to sound GB-elitist, but this is the kind of games-journalism that should be the absolute standard. Good stuff, Jeff.

Oh LOL from the 18:10 mark onwards: "I mean Xbox one was about building up credibility, xbox 360 was about getting on equal footing and not just proof but compete and Uhmm"... *OH SHIT I FUCKED THIS UP* ..." with Xbox One we take all the learning.." You mean the original xbox?..

I'm going for 340$ as they'll probably copy the Apple pricing way. Anything more than 399$ is just not going to sell in this market.

@nictel: Ha ha, yeah, I caught that too. Wow.

Microsoft really showed they have no idea what a 2013 consumer wants, almost like they're stuck in the heyday of 1995 when they actually made something which was cutting edge. No interest what-so-ever, my phone does all this already... and it's cooler!

It's times like these I'm glad Jeff loves Daily Show and Colbert: he's seemingly mastered the passive aggressive interview.

I'm kinda wondering if that market just doesn't exist anymore. People who were gonna buy one system bought Wiis, and probably still dust it off at Christmas to play Wii Sports or whatever. MS seems to be buying into an ecosystem that doesn't yet exist.

Yeah, that sounds sounds like the perfect way to build a friendly and natural rapport. It's an interview, not an interrogation. If you just want facts then I'm sure they are readily available elsewhere.
