Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are the first iteration of Pokémon games to appear on the Nintendo DS. Both Games are set in the world of Sinnoh, which habitats 493 different species of Pokémon.
Plot
Pokémon Diamond/Pearl introduces the player to the bountiful lands of Sinnoh where you must battle to prevent Team Galactic's evil plan while trying to fill your own Pokédex. Progress is the usual Pokémon fare, travelling and catching the various pokémon and working your way through gym's until you eventualy face the Elite Four and try to become the Champion.Gameplay
This DS incarnation uses a fairly pretty 3d engine that is used occasionaly to show off the environment but fails to make any impact on actual play. The title offers exactly what you'd expect from this branch of the Pokémon franchise, travelling, battling, Pokémon gyms and the Elite Four plus of course an evil team to thwart. There are several differences and improvements over the previous generations though. As far as improvements the game keeps the Battle Tower/Frontier type area that previous remix's have had. Doubles encounters remain. A new gadget is introduced in the form of the Poketch, a kind of swiss army PDA. Of course the biggest new addition though must surely be the Wi-fi functionality. Game Freaks use this to connect for battles and trading with your friends but also to connect to the all-new Global Trade Station. This allows trainers to swap Pokémon from all over the world without having to trade friend codes.Other interesting differences are the fact that there is more emphasis on completing your Pokédex, when previously your mission was trying to become champion and battle the evil team much like in the manga and cartoons. In Diamond/Pearl you are assisting the Pokémon Professor in his research by filling your Dex.
Also in the previous generations each of the twin titles features a different evil team whereas in this one both have Team Galactic.

The difference between the Diamond and Pearl versions include how often and which types of Pokémon appear. The different games can communicate with each versions using Nintendo Wi-Fi connection and DS wireless communications. These game can also be connected to the Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald Version of Pokémon using Dual Slot feature of Nintendo DS. These game cannot be connected to Gameboy, N64, or Gamecube versions of Pokémon. It is also not compatible with any pokémon Battle e-cards.
