Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue/Red Rescue Team is a video game that consists of 8 releases

As a human, you go through a mysterious transformation and become a pokemon, after, you black out and meet up with another pokemon, the two of you start a rescue team and try to stop all of the strange "natural" disasters that keep occuring.

Plot

(Spoiler Free)
You are a human, but get turned into a Pokemon, following the legend, which says anyone who grabs a hold of a Ninetails' tail is cursed for a thousand years.  You and your new friend (one that you meet up with in the beginning) start up a rescue team and help Pokemon in need after they are hurt or stuck in dungeons by natural disasters.  As the story continues, you learn about the legend and travel the world trying to find Rayquaza to help restore peace.

Gameplay

Over world

The overworld is the place where you can buy items to aid you in rescuing Pokemon.   You can buy friend areas, berries, gummis and more.  You can also store any money from previous dungeons in a bank and store items in a storage "store".   The overworld is also the place to save your game.

Dungeons

Every time you want to save a Pokemon, going into a dungeon is the way to you do it. Dungeons act in real time, every time the player moves, all of the AI moves.  The dungeons in PMD are randomly generated using Chunsoft's dungeon hack.  In the dungeons, you try and move around collecting items, money and engaging Pokemon in combat.  But the main goal is to explore the dungeon and find the set of stairs on each level, these stairs will take you to the next floor, you are trying to get to a specific floor to save a Pokemon.

Online Play

Even though the game features no online play, it has a password system.  If you die in a dungeon, you can go to an online message board and tell someone a save password.  They can than input this password into their game and save you from the dungeon.  Usually, a reward is given.  This can also work vice versa, if you are bored, you can get a code from someone and save them from a dungeon.

There are 16 pokemon the player can be, and the Pokemon they are is determined by a personality quiz at the beginning of the game.
