Overview
Pokémon Quest is a free-to-play action-RPG developed by Game Freak and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch on May 29, 2018. It was later released by The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android devices on June 27, 2018.
A spin-off of the Pokémon RPG series, Pokémon Quest features a distinct, simplistic voxel-based art style and has players forming three-man teams of Pokémon from throughout Tumblecube Island as they go on expeditions throughout the island to unlock its secrets, gain experience, and search for crafting ingredients.
The main gameplay of Pokémon Quest features a unique auto-battling system where the team's movement and basic combat are done automatically, with minimal involvement from the player (although they can perform each Pokémon's special ability at-will and have them retreat to "dodge" attacks).
As players progress through each expedition, they gain special Power Stones that can be used to upgrade the effectiveness of each Pokémon (who can level up to gain new Power Stone slots), as well as ingredients that can be used for crafting in the Cooking Pot to attract and recruit additional Pokémon (each with a random assortment of abilities and slot types).
As a free-to-play title, the game includes a currency (known as PM Tickets) that can be purchased with real money microtransactions. In addition, it includes a "battery" system where players can only perform a certain number of expeditions at a time (which can only be replenished through cooldown timers or with PM Tickets). The game also includes DLC packs.
