hunter5024Scolipede, Salamence, Shuckle, Vaporeon, Togekiss, and Lucario (no subs)

Rules:

1. You are to battle with the "normal" preset that sets all Pokemon to level 50. This season we are doing a best of 3 for every match (meaning you have to win 2 games against your opponent to advance) with a double elimination format (winners/losers brackets).

2. You are allowed to have a full team of 6 pokedudes, though you can have less if you're crazy. You may also have up to 3 subs. So you can have a total of 9 Pokemon eligible to participate.

2. B) In a best of 3 set, you cannot make subs if you won the previous match. So if you're 1 - 0 up that means you have to play the next game with your previous team of 6. However, losers of the latest game in a best of 3 set can use up to all 3 of their subs. So for example if you win 1 then lose the next game, you are allowed to make up to 3 subs for the final game.

C) The original 6 you register must be the starting team for the first game in a set.

3. If you are in the the tournament, you must PM me your 9 pokedudes that you will use for this season. Failure to do so results in exclusion (more details with point no. 9.

4. No legendary Pokemon, no evasion moves. You can put one of the opponent's Pokedudes to sleep but not more than that.

5. You can't have more than 1 of the same pokedude in your party, and the same goes for held items (so you can't have 6 leftovers for example). Items are locked to their pokedude, so you can't have leftovers on Dragonite in one fight but Mudkip in the other.

6. When a match is over, update your score on the bracket and post in this thread if you won or lost (we don't need both of you to post/update, just one).

7. Include replay codes of your matches in your posts so that everyone else can also see them.

8. Do not use this thread to set up match times/friend codes with your opponents, please use the PM system for that.

9. Registration for season 4 will end on Jan 13 or 14 (depends on # of players). The tournament will start a day after that.

10. We will decide the length of the season when we see how many players have signed up. As always, it is a good idea to take a picture of your victory/the opponent's team in case someone here tries to grief.

11. Registration priority will, as always, be given to GB members that have not simply signed up to the site for the sake of this tournament.

GL guys, also the winner of the loser bracket gets a lansat berry too.

@goranp: I think you forgot to change the date in number 9.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe when we debated the "sleep clause" we meant the rule that you may only put one of your opponent's pokemon to sleep at any given time [as defined here, here, and here], not the banning of sleep moves entirely.

Otherwise looks good, will be registering my team shortly!

#5 Posted by SpaceBoat (173 posts) -

Yeah, we're all good with sleep being used, just not abused.

Good luck to everyone entering.

#6 Posted by DarthOrange (3858 posts) -

Also anyone who uses Chansey or Blissey is a jerk :P

#7 Posted by GoranP (1115 posts) -

Sorry about the errors guys! Fixed them now.

#8 Edited by GoranP (1115 posts) -

Gonna keep the sign ups open for another day! Start sending me your teams if you haven't already.

Is is cool if I invite some people from Neogaf?

Edit: I just saw that a few more people signed up since I last checked. Never mind, I think we are fine in terms of numbers.

This strikes fear into my heart.

Fuck, I forgot to send you my subs. If it's not too late they are Alakazam, Machamp, and Noivern. If it is too late that's totally okay. Messed up my Shuckle last season, and now this haha.

#14 Edited by Hennet_sim (339 posts) -

Oh yea I knew there was something I forgot to do :(

#16 Posted by DarthOrange (3858 posts) -

Good luck everyone!

Also you spelled Froslass wrong Goran.

#17 Edited by GoranP (1115 posts) -

If your opponents are cool with you late registering subs, I'm ok with it too.

#18 Posted by aajf (223 posts) -

Fine by me.

#19 Posted by Hennet_sim (339 posts) -

Goodra, Milotic, Mamoswine, Pinsir, Chandelure, Donphan sub Roserade, Greninja, Talonflame

#20 Edited by aajf (223 posts) -

Myself and @ohpmckenzie just played our first round match, I took it 2-0. Sadly we both forgot to save the first video, but the second was a much better contest anyway:

@spaceboat rivalry game coming up!

I don't see you on the bracket at all, sorry, you must have missed the registration before the season started.

That was a good match. I thought for sure you were going to lose (even though I already knew the outcome). I guess that Mega Venusaur is just too much of a tank.

#23 Edited by aajf (223 posts) -

@darthorange: yeah, Venusaur crushed it in the first battle but the introduction of Reuniclus for the second really changed things. We were kind of dancing around in circles until Reuniclus was gone, at which point I was fairly confident Venusaur could do the rest if I could get him in cleanly.

#24 Edited by DarthOrange (3858 posts) -

I did not come close to beating @theblue. Here are the codes if you want to see my horrible loss. I recommend only watching the first one.

yeah venusaur (especially mega) is just so tough. definitely gonna keep that in mind when i make any future teams.

#26 Posted by DarthOrange (3858 posts) -

Just won 2-0 against @ohpmckenzie. They were both good matches with a lot of luck on my part.

Narrowly scraped by against reigning Champion aajf. It was 2-0, but I'm not going to say it wasn't narrow!

YNHW-WWWW-WWW4-QBNQ

U5PW-WWWW-WWW4-QBZW

I got so lucky that first match. It was somewhat repaid in the second one with my own miss, but that wasn't nearly as bad for me. I feel like my head wasn't really in the game. I played like an idiot around Conkeldurr and used Fire Punch instead of Earthquake against Magnezone. Here's to hoping we get a fourth rematch!

#28 Edited by fragor87 (83 posts) -

I defeated sleepoverking 2-0. It was fun to get a chance to play some 6v6 Pokemon and I'm looking forward to the rest of my inaugural season in the GB league.

Battle 1: 8WEW-WWWW-WWW4-QEZX

Battle 2: 34AG-WWWW-WWW4-QEZ8

#29 Posted by aajf (223 posts) -

@fragor87: Congrats and welcome!

@spaceboat:Pleasure playing you as always, hope I can fight through the losers bracket for a rematch.

#30 Posted by GoranP (1115 posts) -

This spaceboat and aajf rivalry is really getting awesome!

#31 Edited by DarthOrange (3858 posts) -

@spaceboat: That Stealth Rock + 3 layers of Spikes was a thing of beauty.

@fragor87: Those were some great reads and switches in both matches.

I need to get myself someone with Stealth Rock. Also I noticed that in all four matches a Goodra was burned.

#32 Posted by SpaceBoat (173 posts) -

Sleepoverking might have actually picked up my penchant for letting Goodra take burns. I helped him get into the battling scene and I do like to let my Goodra receive status ailments.

#33 Posted by SleepoverKing (15 posts) -

Goodra's the only one on my team that doesn't really care about status! Especially burns. Although I probably could've put it onto Starmie and been more survivable because of natural cure. Ionno, I'm not too proud of my performances so far.

I tried contacting tanktheair but he hasnt replied yet in 3 days, nor has he posted in this thread.

I have a question regarding items on my Pokemon during the tournament. I understand that we've got a unique item clause going but does that mean that the same item must stay on that Pokemon for the entirety of the tournament. The reason I'm asking is that I had the incorrect item on my Togekiss during my first round match and wanted to place the desired item for round 2.

#37 Posted by SpaceBoat (173 posts) -

I'm pretty much ok with any adjustments being made as long as they're announced. The reason we put the rule there was for people coming into a battle with incorrect expectations from watching previous matches. If the switch is mentioned, it sort of eliminates that uncertainty.

#38 Posted by TheBlue (334 posts) -

@fragor87: I've always submitted my items during registration. I know we did it for moves last season but I can't remember if everyone did items too. That way, if someone had an issue, we could ask goranp what they registered with. That wasn't really stressed this time though. I'm cool with the switch as long as you let everyone know.

#39 Edited by Jinx1 (94 posts) -

Alright I declare myself the winner by default, and will continue on in the winner bracket.

@aajf You're winner. It's been a while.

Note to anyone browsing through the thread: jinx's opponent hasn't said anything in a very long time, so jinx gets the win.

As long as your opponents are cool with it, I'm cool with it. Just let people know.

#42 Posted by SleepoverKing (15 posts) -

So should I also declare myself winner of my match with tankintheair? Or give him a minute to reply since it's the loser's bracket?

#43 Posted by TheBlue (334 posts) -

@sleepoverking: That's probably reasonable as it seems like he's not around. Obviously we should let @goranp make the final decision on winning matches by default though.

#44 Posted by Jinx1 (94 posts) -

Beat hunter 2-0. Second video I thought I was done for half way through.

Yep, you win by default.

Beat @theblue 2-0. A lot of mind games in these two.

Eh, not a great performance on my part. Watch if you want to see me get stalled out once I realized I couldn't win. Definitely should've at least brought a Taunt user or maybe a mixed attacker. I sure learned a lot from those matches though.

#48 Edited by SpaceBoat (173 posts) -

Lost 0-2 to fragor87

CVQG-WWWW-WWW5-X3AA

SSVW-WWWW-WWW5-X3AC

Probably the biggest error I ever made was using Protect in the first match. I lost so much momentum doing that. Though I'm not sure what else I could have done. Mega Lucario out-speeds Whimsicott, so I actually couldn't Encore him like I wanted to. Chandelure was also too low in HP by then.

I got really unlucky in the second battle, but that's kind of the score when you play with low hit percent moves. I've hit with Fire Blast so many times in the past, it had to fail me eventually. I also made a few silly mistakes. Like I forgot Defog would still Defog me if I Magic Bounced it, so I spent and extra turn switching Ferrothorn in. I also probably should have just KOed Mandibuzz, but I got greedy and wanted him to Defog to remove the Stealth Rock on my side. I should have accepted the rocks because they would have been way worse for the other team than mine.

#49 Edited by Jinx1 (94 posts) -

@spaceboat The first match you could've won it if you switched in goodra instead of whimsicott so lucario would of got gooey, and both chandelure and whimsicott could of outsped him. Then either sacrifice whimsicott for an encore close combat and send in chandelure or use the switch on the goodra death to ko lucario with fire blast.

The second match I agree with you, you should of took out mandibuzz when you had the chance with chandelure. I would of of used ferrothorn as paralyze fodder instead of scizor. Flamethrower instead of fire blast for sure. Then lastly I think you should of used draco meteor all thoses times you used fire blast on goodra.

#50 Posted by SpaceBoat (173 posts) -

Chandelure wouldn't have worked because, I believe, at that point in the battle, he was low enough that Bullet Punch could have taken him out, so it would have to be sacrifice Whimsicott to get Chandelure in, but that would rely on my opponent leaving Encored Lucario in against Chandelure. Maybe I would have been able to take it if I did that and managed a Dragon Dance on Dragonite.

Getting Scizor paralyzed was a pretty big misread from me. I actually didn't think he was going to use Thunderwave. If I did, I might have switched to Absol to reflect it, but Ferrothorn probably would have been the best move because Gyro Ball can threaten Togekiss. I definitely would have gone with Draco Meteor if I had remembered that Mamoswine got Thick Fat, so that's a research error from me. >_> Even without that knowledge there are a few times I should have used it anyway against Rotom in the endgame.
