Little Masters - Another Pokémon iOS Clone

#1 Edited by Cincaid (2959 posts) -

Original story.

So after reading this story, combined with the company who simply stole a heapton of assets from Torchlight for their iOS game, what are your thoughts on Little Masters?

Little Masters is, more or less, a complete clone of the popular Pokémon franchise. Since Nintendo seems to avoid iOS with long sticks, many companies are exploiting this by releasing Nintendo clones over and over again. Just a few months ago some company "released" a Pokémon game on the iOS store, which was nothing more than a scam since the game itself wouldn't run.

Do you think this game will in any way be successful, or will it be forgotten in the sea of shit found on iOS store? Will Nintendo try and get the game removed from the store? Apparently Little Masters is already sent to Apple for approvement, and "will be available soon".

I'll let some screenshots do the talking, since a picture says more than a thousand words.

Edit: Forgot to add the fact that the game is "free", and will have a free-to-play option. You can buy in-game coins (or whatever currency they'll use) for real money. I think everyone saw that one coming a mile away anyway.

Lol at that bug with mustache. Also how is this even allowed in case of rip offs this blatant?

Guess g etting on the iOS store is easy as fuck?

Gross.

That is such a clone, but makes me realise how much I want a sprite based Pokemon game on my iPhone.

I think it's fine so long as they improve upon the formula that Nintendo has refused to change since 1998. I've even been thinking about making one myself because I have plenty of my own ideas that I know will never be implemented.

Actually, they did change it fairly drastically by switching Special Attack and Physical attacks to a move type rather than just blanket applying it to Normal Pokemon attacks vs Elemental Pokemon attacks.

But that's about it.

No way this stays up on the app store. Far too blatant a rip off.

About damn time I say. I've been holding out on Gameloft to come out with a clone for ages.

[insert "ninten'don't' joke here]

This won't stay up.

Obvious clones are one thing, but this looks exactly like Pokemon. At a quick glance, or if you're unfamiliar with the series, these could easily pass as Pokemon screenshots.

can't find it on the apps store under little masters

It has been sent to Apple for review, so it's not up yet. The developer said five days ago that "it will be available soon", whenever that is.

should have used the exact assets but added mustaches to the pokemon.

would have been funny.

This is really gross, but I bet it won't pass certification.

I would love to play it.

Maybe this will make Nintendo realise that they could make an obscene amount of money by making a quality pokemon game for IOS.

Does it bother anyone else that they're not facing each other? And yeah I know why they did that.

You guys are crazy there not similar at all there both looking at me and there's so bug with a sick mustache in pokemon!

Too similar for it to survive long on the app store. I'm surprised that I haven't seen a dev copy the pokemon idea and put it up on the app store.

Yeah, this isn't even trying to hide it. It's just shameless copying, which is sad since there's really something to Pokemon, and I kinda wish someone actually added on to the formula by making a good competitor, or something.

That's what I would've guessed, but (unbelievably) the game came out yesterday and is available now. Yikes!

Super interested to see how this plays out from a legal perspective.

Fuckin' wow. I'm guessing Nintendo aren't going to do anything about this unless it becomes at least reasonably popular, but it's sad to see a developer trying to rip off other people's work like this, and it's worrying to know this kind of thing can pass cert.
