Link -   “Shock announcement” about new Pokemon RPG on next episode of Pokemon Sunday

Buzz about the fifth generation of Pokemon games is starting to pick up. We already know that the upcoming issue of CoroCoro will feature the next round of titles. Today we’ve also learned that next week’s episode of Pokemon Sunday will reveal the games in the form of a “shock announcement.” So the next few days should be very exciting for Pokemon fans, as we’ll soon receive a bunch of information about the new RPG.

Thanks to RareNintendo for the news tip!

Well, the hype begins.  Or has it begun?

Calling out all Giantbomb fortune tellers, dust off your crystal balls, put down Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver and start the speculation.  What do you think it is?  What do you want it to be?

Shocking!!!

Hmmm....  Since it's supposed to be a "shock announcement", maybe it will be some info on new gameplay elements for the 5th gen games or maybe we will get some info on the new region.  Either or, I will be looking forward to whatever it is.

An actual full Pokemon RPG on console that's not just a battle arena or what-have-you game?

That might be fun. A nice long pokemon game for PS3/360...lots of in depth playing...online trading and battles...

Am I the only one who figures "shocking" will not be shocking at all? We're used to Nintendo pretending its new mechanics are amazing and innovative (i.e. Zelda) by now, aren't we? It's probably just got some new minigame element we're not going to use after they teach it to us (the Underground, Poffins, etc.)

That said, new Pokémon is still new Pokémon. Just hope it's better than D/P/Plat, 'cause that generation was a mess.

I don't think Nintendo is touting shocking, just the internet/media/whatever.  And you are not alone.  I am figuring I will like go, "mmm, meh, whatever", when it is revealed.  Same for all hype.

@The_Laughing_Man: Yeah, the "shocking" new announcement is also liable to be some of the new Pokémon from the next generation. I promise they'll all be even cuter, cleaner, and less artistic than ever before.

Heh, nice one. But I still think that " More Safari, Less Track" would be the best subtitle for a Pokemon Snap sequel.

Sonic Dark Brotherhood anyone?

Also, ps3/360 is a total bust, for obvious reasons. Wii...hmm...i dislike wii controls most of the time, they're bad...

A game like Colosseum and XD instead of the usual gym challenge and E4.

With a somewhat more mature storyline.

This is requested all the time, and honestly, how would it work?  Battles are too slow, fighting people instead of NPC trainers would be even longer and make it ridiculously hard to progress and the current stat system skews battles in favour of grind (which I guess is suited to what most people want from an MMO, but it's still unbalanced).  A Pokemon MMO would just be a horrible idea.  The games already feature areas where you can meet up to trade, chat and battle online.

Nintendo's online system makes this more limited than it perhaps could be, but if they could expand on those features, that's all they need to do.  Making it into a full MMO would be a disaster.

As for this news, it's almost certainly inregards to the upcoming Generation V games for the DS.  Like the article said, we're getting info on them later this week anyway, so it's most likely more..  and even more likely to be shadows of new Pokemon that won't be shown fully for another few weeks.  That's always what these announcements are.  I'd love to see some actual shots of the game and get some details, but I doubt it.  But just to go on record..  My bets on it being a prequel/reboot.

As if Nintendo would release a game for the PS3/360, not to mention one of their main brands, when they have their own system.

A pokemon game set in olden times where pokeballs didn't exist.
#35 Posted by MattyFTM (14244 posts) -

The only thing I can think it would be is a full pokemon RPG on the wii. They aren't going to do a new DS pokemon RPG game with the 3DS release around the corner. They aren't going to announce a 3DS pokemon game when the 3DS hasn't been fully revealed yet. So that only leaves one option - a wii game.

Pokemon MMO.

#37 Posted by MrKlorox (11186 posts) -

It'll come with a perhipheral you plug into your Wiimote port that gives you a jolt when you get your ass stomped by Pikachu in YET ANOTHER NON-RPG GAME ON CONSOLE.

#38 Posted by Soap (3530 posts) -

Not to let the air out of this to much, but I'm pretty sure the "shock" announcement is that they will be shown off first on Pokémon Sunday, rather than corocoro, rather than some epic change of gaming styles. This is still Pokémon after all.

#39 Posted by weegieanawrench (1918 posts) -

Probably something similar to Colosseum. And most likely on the Wii. As stated before, I too would really like to see a pokemon game made for the older generation that grew up with Blue, Red, and Yellow. Maybe throw a couple of clever references in there during gameplay. Whatever they do, I hope it has something for us.

Multi-Pokémon battles with a proper system and R/B-Pokémon only plz.

I genuinely hope so, as long as we finally get a BIG home console version.  We deserve it for all the money we spend on Pokemon.  It needs to be 2 dual layer discs and at least 50 hours on the main storyline.  I can dream can't I?

A DS Pokemon RPG with a few new features, 150 or so new Pokemon, same general format of past games.

I think there is no way in hell Ninty would let Game Freak put a pokemon game on a non-nintendo syste, but I have a wii so a quality pokemon rpg on the wii would be alright with me.

That's cause they made it as a JRPG. That's like Gamefreak or Squaresoft making a CRPG. I would have zero expectations that it would work.

The thought of a Pokemon filled Infinity engine styled CRPG, however, is much a more mind-bendingly awesome idea.

Though it wasn't "great", it was a decent game.  Certainly better than most of what Sonic has been up to lately.

@oldschool:
There's a wide berth between being better than Sonic Team and being good enough to make a Pokemon game with the Pokemons. Just sayin. Not to weabo out but the only gringos I'd trust with Pokemon are people who've proven they know how to handle online infrastructure. And even then, I'd be a little afraid of how Blizzard would render a lot of them Pokemons. On the bright side, a bunch of trainers would have ridiculous looking armor.

Perhaps they'll announce it as a launch title for Nintendo's next handheld? I have not been keeping up with this game so I don't know if they specificly said that this was going to be on the DS or not.

edit: looks like this was already mentioned some pages ago.
