A port of the PC title with the same name, Populous DS is a God simulation game in the style of Black and White where the player is responsible for guiding a small civilization. The DS game has 50 single player missions and a new four player mode.
Overview
In this game, the player assumes the role of demi-god or diety and can direct his people through manipulation or even direct intervention. The god/player can also shape the landscape of the the game to make an advantageous living space for his people and must eventually defeat an enemy population that is led by an enemy god. Over the course of the game, the player will rule over multiple stages of citilizations, from prehistoric to midieval.
Legacy
In addition to spawing a combat focussed sequal called "Powermonger", Populous can be conidered the original God game. Aside from Black and White, which had the same developer as Populous (Peter Molyneux), games such as Spore and even Sim City and The Sims were clearly inspired by Populous's style of gameplay where the player serves as some all-powerful force that is responsible for a group of people and their living space.
