5 hours really?

#1 Posted by Truant19 (197 posts) -

Don't get me wrong, the game was amazing. But the length kind of ridicules,? I just finished it, and its under 5 hours. I thought, this was supposed to be the full version of the 2 hour one in the orange box. But it really didn't feel like it. It felt like a half the game was tutorial and then half the time in really easy puzzles. Just as the difficulty started to increase it was over (same as the original). The only thing this one doesn't seem to have is the bonus extra hard levels. Its a shame I guess. Haven't tried co-op but I dont think this game is worth 60 bucks, or a stand alone sale.

This is why I'm renting. Maybe you can replay for achievements?

#3 Posted by Vinny_Says (5721 posts) -

is this $60? I buy new games all the time and gladly pay 60 dollars but this sounds like a rip....

#4 Posted by EuanDewar (5103 posts) -

I payed £26.99 so im pretty happy with it. The amazing experience I had playing through it totally justifies the hour length to price for me.

To be fair the Co-Op section is said to be of equal length as the SP, so that's 10 hours by your count. Also, making content for puzzle games like this, especially 3D ones is rather hard.

#6 Posted by Klaimore (940 posts) -

Yeah thats why I'm going with mortal kombat, dont worry fellas when this game is out on steam for like 10 bucks we can all enjoy this holiday season!

#7 Posted by Kyle (2325 posts) -

I've been playing for more than five hours and I'm on chapter 7/10. And it's not like I've been getting stumped on the puzzles or anything, you must play games really fast.

What does the length ridicule?

#9 Posted by McShank (1630 posts) -

Took 10 hours to beat it.. I bought it for 45 on steam.. if you pay 60$ then is your own fault. if it took you less then 6hours then you didn't take the time to look around and enjoy what valve made and you didn't stay long enough to listen to all the dialogue which to mean justified buying it since i was laughing half the time i was playing. Also if you wait for this to get to 10$ then you are missing out as this was tons of fun with co-op being a great add

#10 Posted by Dtat (1630 posts) -

Took me 6 hours. Also co op.

#11 Posted by rybrad (128 posts) -

Co-op took me and a friend about four and a half hours. Obviously there isn't much replay value but ~10 hours of enjoyment between both modes isn't  too shabby.

So I suppose without co-op the game is rather short. Well, I was planning on renting it anyways.

I just finished it in Exactly 7 hours so WINNING

#14 Posted by D_W (1198 posts) -

It's a good length, but man I wish there were more more-complex levels in it. But that's what DLC and the community is for!

Five hours? That's it? :(

Like another poster above, I'm over five hours and I'm on Chapter 7. Haven't touched co-op or listened to the commentary yet either.

60 bucks is how much new ps3 games cost in Canada (its 50 on steam, but I wanted the ps3 and PC version for co-op). Also, theres not much to really explore, all of the puzzles are very linear and very short. With the new design of the testing chambers, there is almost no portal walls, so with a quick glance around the room to see where the portal walls are, you know instantly how to solve it. its almost as if someone is telling you the answer to each puzzle. The game also seems to correct your portal angles, so even aiming doesn't matter much.

Quality justifies price not length

That seems completely likely to me. I can wait.

On sale yes, but 10 bucks by Christmas wont happen. At most it will be 30-40 on sale during Christmas. Portal 1 is 10 bucks right now, CS:source is still 20.

And this game has quality.

Also, between co-op and single player I've racked up over nine hours so far.  If you don't take time to absorb things and just blast through all the chambers, of course it'll be short.

Steam sales are a wonderful wonderful thing.

Btw, Portal 1 has been given away for free on occasions.

I was just throwing a number out there yeah Portal 2 might go for 20-30 bucks this christmas.

I get annoyed when people tell me im playing a game wrong. If the rooms are designed so simple to not encourage exploration is it really my fault? The developers never give you a tool or a portal wall that wont be used. So within 20 seconds you know pretty much how to complete the puzzle. That sort of environment does not encourage exploration or out of the box thinking or even "thinking with portals".

Yes, but the game will still be retailing for 50 bucks at Christmas, I doubt there will be an 80% off sale.

Have you seen a Steam sale? Mark my words: At least 75% off for the Holiday 2011 sale.
