A parting gift to those that finished Portal 2 (minor spoiler)

#1 Edited by Getz (3348 posts) -

Chell, in the rain, enjoying her hard-fought freedom. Something about this is really cathartic for me, it captures a more serious and rewarding tone for the ending of the game than the sillier one they provide. Don't get me wrong though, I loved the ending.

Edit: I don't want to give the impression that I did this, it's all thanks to the beautiful art of Emmy Cicierega (http://emmycic.livejournal.com/716586.html), assembled by Nick Catal ( http://twitter.com/#!/NickCatal). So go thank them!

Really nice use of The National's song too. Thanks!

Simply beautiful. Great song selection and amazing art.

Also, this is immediately becoming my desktop background.

I had no idea this song was actually in Portal 2, either!

Incredible.  This should be an alternate credits sequence to the official game.  Thank you so much.  Cathartic is the exact feeling too.

Cute, but I thought he died 2 years ago...

Love can  overcome death.

Needless to say this is an extremely beautiful addition to the ending, Wolpaw's cynical writing be damned.

That would have worked for me to stare and listen to during the end credits. Beautiful.

Also, made a great wallpaper. Good summer theme. ^_^

Actually, I agree, I think something like this would have worked better for the ending than Want You Gone. It definitely didn't have the same impact as Still Alive.

Sigh ;_; This song (+rain) makes me so sad.

That was really great, thanks for sharing it.

I recently reinstalled Windows and was going to find some wallpaper today. That's no longer necessary.

I like this ending.

@Getz: Great work bud.

Also how did you get the music to start automatically and where did you use to upload the mp3? I need to add a track to a page I'm working on.

Edi: Oh also how did you get it to repeat?

@Getz: Great share. Very emotionally evocative.

@X19:  The music and rain are youtube clips in the top left corner with an auto start command in the embed code.

Still listening to it. Such a great combination.

@PhatSeeJay: I guess it will all be in the source code, will have a look now.

Charlie Brown vibes.

@PhatSeeJay: Got the code and it just gets stripped when I try to use it on GB :(

Awesome find. This too will become my wallpaper. Also I just want to add that I've been listening to The National since their self titled debut, and though I am not as fond of their recent album as I am of Boxer or Alligator, I very much enjoy this song!

I love this.

Great parting gift. And new wallpaper (so needed).

That was incredible.

Though, I got the same feeling from the swelling opera as you raced up to the entrance, and the sudden quiet as it opened into the field.

If the final shot had been something like this, instead of the song reminiscent of the first game, it would have worked better. Slightly melancholy, but an uplifting quality to it.

Actually reminds me of the credit sequence of Spirited Away, a little.

Wow! This is incredible! Cathartic is definitely the best word for this.
#39 Posted by SgtReznor (230 posts) -

that's totally my new desktop background

#40 Posted by RsistncE (4499 posts) -

Absolutely incredible to match an absolute masterpiece of a game.

#41 Posted by Mesoian (1618 posts) -
@Getz: Why is there a volume control button if you can't adjust the volume? That's just silly.
#42 Posted by Getz (3348 posts) -
@Mesoian: It's an embed from youtube, so the volume control is still there but it doesn't actually do anything. Just adjust your speaker volume, no big deal

That companion cube is way too big
