Think of 8-shades of awesome plots please (think of something awesome or just plain funny.)

Valve already confirmed Portal 3.

It's called Half Life 2 Episode 3, it's when you get the Portal gun from Chell.

I think that would be a funny moment, since both characters are mute. I guess they would just nod at each other and she would give him the gun.

That instance would be funny, but valve would find some arbitrary way around them interacting by my assumption.

The portal gun will be able to shoot 3 portals.

Well, Valve has been researching sign language to try and get it in a game or something else. I think Gordon just doesn't talk when you are playing as him, while Chell may actually be mute. If somehow they do meet (they won't because Chell is in a time 300 years after HL2) she would use sign language to talk.

As for Portal 3. Please no, they ended things so well, it would kind of ruin it. They were going to make 2 a prequel however (with no portals and something called F-Stop) that took place in the 50's. They could do that but just not put the Portal name on it for christ sake.

I'm going to assume, if that happened, they would meet face to face, chell would die, and Gordon would pick up the gun off the ground and portal combine into the galaxy.

To be honest, this seems like a likely scenario.  Adding Portal like puzzles within the next Half Life game seems like the next logical step for both franchises.

@KaosAngel: Yup. Portal 2 pretty much takes place after everything in the Half Life series.   Gordon Freeman may still be alive with the whole status thing, but everyone else would be dead. So no Chell and Gordon will never meet.

@TurboMan: Nope
#15 Posted by ryanwho (12082 posts) -

Portal 3 is the test robots. Chell is part of Half Life now, which means she's been indefinitely delayed.

#16 Edited by EuanDewar (4514 posts) -

Doug Lomardi straight up said like a year ago in response to Half Life-Portal relations "Lets just say I can envision seeing the Portal gun in Gordon's hands at some point the future" i.e Borealis Bitches.

so if they do have the Portal gun in Half Life 3(which is mostly confirmed)... they would have to get it out of Aperture Science somehow....

so maybe the end of Portal after Portal 2... but maybe we'll see GLaDos again in some point in the future?
#19 Posted by Daveyo520 (6597 posts) -
@TurboMan: Nope. She would be dead any time Gordon would go there. Also how will he get there exactly? It is across the world. Maybe he can find one on the Borealis (that is the only way I see him getting one if at all). I personally do not want the portal gun to be in the next HL, I want the games to be separate and different. It also wouldn't make sense gameplay wise. What is to limit where you shoot  it and why? I say find something else for HL3 maybe this F-Stop thing?
#20 Posted by evilrazer (479 posts) -

GLaDoS should open the door behind you, catch you with this conveyor hand, drag you down to the facility and say: "Oh, I changed my mind."

The HL/Portal wiki says that " As such, the events of Portal 2 apparently coincide with the return of Gordon Freeman & The Resistance , around 202-. " This is from the HL universe time line .
Also it is stated that Chell will have an interaction with a major character from the HL series, so it could  Mr.Freeman, or  Adrian Shephard(from Opposing Force) who if I remember correct was also taken by The G-Man, or it could even be The G-Man

Isn't Chell's Portal gun on the moon now?

I know this was probably in jest, but didn't Chell leave the Portal Gun in Aperture?

At this point, another sequel would be totally unnecessary. Portal 2 wrapped things up really well, and the inclusion of co-op, and the chance of community made levels, should satiate any appetite for more testing.
#26 Posted by Droop (1792 posts) -

It would most likely be the prologue Portal 2 was supposed to be.

I'd expect a lot more Cave Johnson.
#27 Posted by guiseppe (2833 posts) -

Couldn't the science guys of the Half Life universe just find the Borealis and develop their own handheld portal device out of what they find on that godforsaken ship?

#28 Posted by Inkerman (1448 posts) -

I would like to see more of Cave Johnson in any case.

My issue with a Portal/HL combination is that HL is far more serious than Portal. Portal can be considered a more of commentary on HL, providing a humorous contrast to the seriousness of HL, as well as in jokes for HL fans. But if the two were to meet, Adrian Shepard would probably be involved, and just to remind you, Cave mentions small amounts of time travel in one of the test chambers. It's quite possible that the Borealis travelled back in time to crash into the arctic. However IMO Chell and Freeman should never meet, should the Portal gun ever enter the HL universe. I can actually see it combined with a slight reference scrawled on the wall of the Borealis or something.

But remember, the major differences between the two is that one deals with Science, the other deals with inter-universal genocide and post-human dictatorships.

You all know that Valve can't make a third game in a franchise. It has proven itself to be impossible.

#30 Posted by ryanwho (12082 posts) -

So the guy who insists you were hibernating for a hundred years turned out to be a robot built to be incompetent. So maybe don't take him at his word.

Also, how effective is hibernation in a hotel room with a simple bed?
#32 Posted by ryanwho (12082 posts) -

The room did have gas vents. But yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if Portal 2 ended up taking place a week after Portal 1. I guess there's the question of how long it would take for Aperture to degrade into what it was at the beginning of Portal 2.

Yeah, but the automated message also said you were asleep for 999,999,99-
If they make another Portal, I don't think Chell will be in it. The end of the co-op made Chell pretty  unnecessary, and GLaDOS erasing her own character arc at the end of the single player means they can start fresh with her again too, if they wanted to.

That information was from before Portal 2 was released, and from a different version of the game, that was going to involve time travel to an earlier version of Aperture and essentially be a prequel where Chell was going to face an evil robot with Cave Johnson's personality downloaded into it, and was originally not intended to use Portals at all. They changed the plot to be "hundreds of years" in the future and added Wheatley and the gels instead. Chell was going to meet a Half-Life character in Portal 2, not the other way around.

They might change that now and have Chell show up in future Half-Life games, but I don't think that's likely. I think the Borealis is going to be the only major crossover between the two series from this point on, and what Valve has said lately pretty much coincides with that.

Chell's story may be over, but you obviously haven't played through co-op yet if you're saying that things "ended so well".

Honestly, I'd love for Portal 3 to be a prequel that takes place in the 60's where you're a mute homeless man just trying to make $60.

#35 Posted by GunslingerPanda (4482 posts) -

Couple years into the future.

Chell's free, chilling in the city.
Suddenly, robots attack! With Portal guns! Led by GLaDOS!

I don't mind if they don't make a sequel, but I'd at least hope for some kind of spiritual successor with a similar humour puzzle/humour focus if they do decide to leave aperture behind.
#37 Posted by Mr_Skeleton (5117 posts) -

They are going to bundle it with episode 3 and call it "the you're never going to play this box".

#38 Posted by TEHMAXXORZ (1199 posts) -

Portal 3 should follow the events of a man named... ahh! Gordon Freeman and a friend of his... hmmm... Alyx Vance! As they explore the corridors of the docked Aperture science ship, the Borealis.

I think I might have this down. If they were to make a Portal 3, the main character would be Caroline.

Anyone agree?
#41 Posted by Hardgamer (610 posts) -

I can't think of anything?

#42 Posted by TooWalrus (12978 posts) -

I could see a couple of scenarios.

1. GlaDOS wasn't lying when she said she found 2 test subjects with Chell's last name. She could have to break back into Aperture and find him. Who that is- who knows? Maybe she's Chell Freeman, and Gordan gets kidnapped at the end of Half Life 3, and hibernates for 300 years... and she has to rescue him- I don't know, but I'd hope it's about Chell and GlaDOS again- they could pull it off.

2. Half Life 3 and Portal 3 are the same game- it's a co-op game where one player has a portal gun, and the other has a crowbar.

3. They do something that has almost nothing to do with Chell or GlaDOS, and I get super pissed, until I actually play the game and I change my mind, and admit I was stupid for doubting Valve.

Good idea?

Chell is free so i think outside after 9999999... days they must be a war so an Apperture vs Black Mesa war would be a great story.

you walk in the door tryng to reconize it and you go down and glados says oh stay for i year that brith day i talked about

@AustinQ  SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.

I would love to see Portal 3, but I don't see why we should connect it to Half Life, Just leave it at the Borealis, and possible references to Apature in Half Life. Using the basis fof the end of the Co-op story, You could be the next human subject Glados awakens, but Wheatley is finally able to get back with the portal gun on the moon (could be a hilarious scene between him and the "SPAAAAACE" robot) and He just wants to say sorry to Chell, Glados informs him, and He would ask your player to help,  The whole game could be a choice to either side with Glados (who is most likely giving you examples of how he failed) or Wheatley. During the entirety of the story could reference somehow Chell's past to sate the fans, and go from there.

#48 Posted by houndemly (1 posts) -

Because there is a considerable time gap between Portal and Portal2, my idea is that Gordon went into Aperture Science sometime after GlaDOS' destruction, and for some reason rebuilt GlaDOS, but differently resembling her Portal 2 appearance (which would explain why she looks different and why she isn't in a million pieces). Afterwards, Gordon would acquire the portal gun, stuff happens (maybe tests) then GlaDOS would somehow become a danger to him, leading him to turn her off (explaining why if she's repaired she's dead).
I haven't played the Half-Life series put I have played the Portal series so Im not sure if my idea would be possible. But in other words, this would merge the series and create a "Portal 1.5".

#49 Posted by SamFo (1511 posts) -

I think chell is a better character than Gordon Freeman. I would be really dissapointed if portal 3 was just half life episode 3.

And for me Portal's best aspect is the atmosphere. Something that Half Life didn't do quite as well.
