Anyone else noticed the Potato Sack deal doesn't have an official end date? All the deals on Steam tell you the time they'll end, and the date, this one only says "The day Portal 2 is released". Kinda spooky.

I really don't think Sony is paying them any money. Valve has said they'd love to ship Steamworks on the 360 version of the game but Microsoft won't allow anything that circumvents their Live system of title updates, friends list, and probably the biggest thing, free content updates as Microsoft doesn't believe in giving DLC away for free.

its not that MS is against free DLC, its that it costs money to have the content there. So companies arent willing to pay out of pocket to put free content on the marketplace. If it really was MS's fault for the lack of free dlc, you would see certain things cost money on xbla but  be free on PSN.    It seems like Valves main issue with how MS does its quality process. So where as valve can push things through steam any day they want to, on xbla they gotta wait a while after they give it to ms.  "

For the first point, I'm sure they've done some market research and found out that free content helps sales in some cases. As for the second point, quality process is about them controlling and reviewing all of the things that go up on their service. Whether you like them or not is, I suppose, a matter of subjectivity. For your first point if they had done that they would let some companies do that, they don't because they want their cut of the loot. However, I sure they did do market research and I'm sure it turned out that they can sell  small shallow content at a premium and people would still buy it like hotcakes.  "
