Wild Portal 3 Theory *spoilers*

TIME TRAVEL!

ok here me out.
During chapter 6 when visiting the old offices frequently there is a sign saying "If you see an orange jumpsuit, press the read button."
There is an illustration of a person looking vaguely like Chell holding a mop. Why would you need to press a button if you see a janitor?
A red button was on the desk on the scientist that made sure GLaDOS didn't become god like. therefore the red button is an emergency button.
does anyone else reckon this could mean the Chell time travels at some point?
Just an idea, looking for opinions.

I was hoping for you to mention the co-op ending instead of.. this

#3 Posted by Daveyo520 (6653 posts) -

I hope they don't do one after the end of 2.

If there is Portal 3 it would have to be without Chell. I don't really see a need for Portal 3 anyway.

I think I might have this down. If they were to make a Portal 3, the main character would be Caroline.

Anyone agree?
#6 Posted by Pie (7058 posts) -
@AustinQ: You know Caroline is GLADoS right?

Portal 3 should merge with Half Life 3. Two silent protagonists come together in the most bizarre co-op campaign ever created. One with a crowbar and guns and the other with nothing but a portal gun.

Yeah that would be the obvious thing to bring up.

Portal 2 takes place after Episode 3, we know the world is saved from the aliens.  Glados mentions seeing humans on the outside during this time period so it's safe to say everything is well.

Portal 3 either has to take place before Portal 1, take place during Half Life 2, or something else that's magical.  As far as I see it, Glados will just put those humans in more tests over and over and then releases them.

The icon on that sign is a homeless person, because Aperture was hiring homeless people in the 70s.

Oh my fucking god.

Portal 3: YOU ARE THE PORTAL!!

Nah, it's gonna be like Mirror's Edge but with portals.

this.

I think aperture will be left alone.     A sequel where glados finds and tests another person would be the lamest shit ever and a prequel during the Cave Johnson era just seems too predictable and cash grabby for Valve.

About 15 seconds in she says "You know, being Caroline has taught me a valuable lesson"
#18 Posted by NickLott (792 posts) -
@AustinQ: Specifically, aside from GLADoS saying it outright, remember toward the end of the Aperture history act (during the 80s era) when Cave was going on about new technology to put his conscience into a computer so that he could live forever? He says if he doesn't live to see it completed, to use Caroline in his place.

Interesting theory, but I don't think this is anywhere near enough evidence for time travel. The most logical explanation for the orange jumpsuit signs is that they're there to tell the Aperture employees to alert people if they see test participants outside of the tests.

She also says she saw some deer and that the test detected that "you are a horrible person", she also tries to murder you multiple times. I don't think you can believe 99% of what she says. She's toying with Chell for most of the game so yeah. We know the Earth didn't blow up or anything between Episode 2 and Portal 2 but we don't have any idea if there's any humans or anything still around, or at least, if there's a decent amount.

Anyways, I don't think there'll be any Portal 3 much like I don't think there will be a Left 4 Dead 3. However I'd really really love if the writers from Valve kept stories going in other types of media like books or comics... It would be awesome to have a book about Chell and what she's does after Portal 2 but I don't think it would make a terribly good game. These fictions and worlds Valve thinks up are soo interesting I wish they'd get together and expand upon them in books.
#21 Posted by DrPockets000 (2859 posts) -

Knowing Valve, it'll take so fucking long to come out everyone will have forgotten what happened in 1 and 2 and no one will care where the story goes.

#22 Edited by BulletStorm (487 posts) -

The second playthrough in I made a bigger note out of GLaDOS saying she saw people, I don't think she can be trusted though, she's likely just saying that to tease Chell more.
I'm in the "Chell's alone on Earth" camp. I think the only suitable "Portal 3" would be an artsy, "walk around North America until you die of "x"-causes" journey.

A return to Aperture Science? Never again, and I don't think Valve intends to.

Yes and.... yes
#24 Posted by MustachedPagoda (47 posts) -

I don't think Valve has a serious idea of where they want to go with Portal 3.  I think the ending is open enough so that they can literally do whatever they want (if they even want to do another one).  Honestly this game ended almost exactly the same as the first one (excluding the bit added later on).

#25 Posted by bartok (2425 posts) -

The end of Portal 3 ends much like Men in Black where the camera keeps pulling back further and further until it is revealed it is a self contained universe on a pimple on Gabe Newall's enormous ass.
Lower quadrant of the left cheek an inch and a half away from the abyss if you want to know the exact location.

@Pie: But at one point in the game's story Caroline and GLaDOS are two separate people, GLaDOS being the A.I. Cave always wanted to create and when Caroline took control of the facility put a part of her inside. Caroline was a real person
#28 Posted by afrofools (1313 posts) -

Also, I don't want another Portal (even though it's one of my favourite games), but I do want Gordon Freeman and Alyx to meet Chell in Half Life 3, with the portal gameplay not overdone, just a brief bit of change of pace, probably not make it more action than puzzle since it's a shooter.
#29 Posted by KarlPilkington (2685 posts) -

As long as Half Life and Portal eventually merge somehow I'll be happy.

#30 Posted by JoeyRavn (4949 posts) -

IMO, if they ever want to continue the story from inside Aperture, they should use:

Mind you, I haven't played the MP yet, so I don't know what this ending there that everyone's talking about is.

I thought this was as explicit as they could have made it.

There were allusions to it in old Aperature, which would have been enough, and then GLADoS straight up says it right at the end.
#32 Posted by su2gnole (1 posts) -

The best thing is for this: L4D, HL, TF, C-S, Portal, (basically any game by valve) end up being put together in one game. The Trilogy of all of them have to be somewhere, and they all (with the exceptions of TF and CS) have connections, in a way.

just think guys wheatley and the portal gun are both in space wheatley has the weird claw things on his head to use the portal gun to get back to earth it could be about wheatley getting back to earth breaking glados off the main guide rail so if they both ended up in those aperture science robot core holders (like atlas and p body) glados could try and ascape the facility why wheatley tries to destroy the test facility and the world (just an idea but it would make an awesome game)

I've still got my bet down that portal 3 and half-life 3 are the same game.
