So I just bought Half Life: The Orange Box off of Amazon for the PS3 for £6.99. I've been waiting to get this game for years and years but I never did, untill now. So it comes with Portal, I've played Portal 2 and I really enjoyed it, so will I be-able to still enjoy Portal? I've never played it or read any story or even seen much footage of it, does Portal 2 makes Portal hard to go back to?

You absolutely can. Portal isn't hard to go back to at all. One thing about the Source engine is that it ages extremely well.

I think Portal still stands the test of time both gameplay and storywise. It's relatively short, and it's totally worth at least one playthrough.

If anything you'll enjoy it more just from the sole fact that you can keep an eye out for secrets, and story plot.

I was unsure whether Portal 2's control scheme was such an improvment that going to play Portal would be difficult.

Sure, Portal is still an awesome game and if you've only played the 2nd one you NEED to go back and meet GLaDOS in her glory days. Though you may find the variations a little lacking as you dont have things like the various Gels the difficulty of some of the more advanced tests will more than make up for it. I found Portal 1 a little more challenging than the sequel. Enjoy.

How would Portal 2 invalidate playing Portal 1? Anyway, the first is the better game, although its narrative development won't be as powerful given that the twist won't be a twist: the cake will be a bit soggy in your case, alas.

I remember portal being harder than portal 2 and there isn't that much in terms of dialog and story compared to portal 2.

    Absolutely.

In many ways the puzzles in Portal 1 are better.

Control wise, nothing has changed between the two. It's bigger narrative and mechanics that differ.

But sure, go play it! It's still great. I revisit it once in a while. Mostly because once you've finished it, it only takes 3 hours or less to beat it.

There are many who think Portal is even better than Portal 2, I am not one of them.  Its still a great game though.

It's obviously not the best order to play the games, but really, the game is great and not all that long. You already bought the game so It would seem kind of silly not to play it and I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't enjoy it considering that you liked #2.

Should be able to play & enjoy the first Portal game without much problem. Gameplay & overall look of the game didn't change that much between it & the sequel, plus has some great moments in it. GLHB

Portal 1 is amazing. The story isn't as deep as Portal 2 but it feels the same.

The whole thing feels like a mod that a team of 4 put together, it aesthetically  pales in comparison to it's successor, and the controls are terrible on console. That said, you can still definitely enjoy it.
