Prince of Persia HD Collection To Be PSN-Exclusive In North America

It appears as if the Prince of Persia HD trilogy Collection won't see a physical release in North America, but that doesn't mean North Americans won't be able to get their hands on the HD re-mastered titles at all. Ubisoft has revealed that three games in the packaged will be released separately on PSN in North America. Keep those wallets handy, eh?

The collection was first spotted as a European-exclusive set that combined Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, and Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within on a single Blu-ray. Like the God of War Collection before it, and even more similar to the Sly Collection, the Prince of Persia Collection features 720p HD visuals and 3D support.

The PlayStation blog has some neat details about these titles. The Sands of Time is available now over PSN for $14.99. The other two titles in the collection will debut at some point in December at the same price.

And just as a minor note: in the Ubisoft conference call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned, according to Kotaku, that the rumored Splinter Cell HD trilogy is indeed a real package. It's unknown if that collection will be also be released as a PSN exclusive in North America.

KINDA awesome? I dunno. I FEEL LIKE the first is the ONLY ONE I really want. Never played THE SECOND but the constant OMFGISNTTHISHARDCORE Godsmack soaked bullshit WARRIOR Within kept pulling REALLY TURNED me off.

Sands of Time is already on PSN.  Came out today.  $15 USD.  So yeah.

I'm kind of weirded out that pretty much all the games I'm looking forward to on the PS3 are HD collections of last-gen games.  Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath and now Prince of Persia.

I'm thrilled about these re-releases, but remastering games just seems like a strange thing to hang their hat on.

I've played the first POP a ton of times, the second and third twice. I might want to revisit the second at some point but otherwise I think I'll be fine without this.

Good for people that've been missing out though.

EAT IT 360 OWNERS!

Oh wait, I own a 360.

Luckily, I also own a PS3.

Also luckily, I already own all of these on the PC and making them HD is just a matter of a resolution change.

#14 Posted by RandomInternetUser (6789 posts) -

Nice, probably will pick up the second one, never played it.

#15 Posted by hexx462 (506 posts) -

There's an awful lot of collections coming out on the PS3 it seems. Sounds cool though, never got around to playing Sands of Time (or any of the triology for that matter).

Getting sick of exclusives. At this point everything like this should be cross platform considering the games were on the Xbox to begin with. Or since Splinter Cell is Xbox exclusive that is the reasoning behind this. I might go with the latter.

Sands of Time was the only one worth playing and that was back in 2003.

They were all worth playing.

Yes, all were quite good and hold up well.  Sands was indeed the best of the three, the second went a little too far down the extreme path with the style and emphasis on combat, Thrones was a nice mix of the two that concluded the story.

In fact the 2008 game and the now bargain priced Forgotten Sands were excellent as well, making for plenty of great PoP action at a great price if you haven't played them.  The only thing I would advise someone to avoid is the Wii port of Thrones, it's garbage.

The Gamecube ports were considered the better option at the time, and a great reason to dust off your Wii.

Sands of Time is on the PSN today for $15....

...the rest of the collection is pure shit.

#21 Posted by Apathylad (3067 posts) -

Meh. Rather than buy them on PSN, I'd prefer to just import the European version. I may just do that.

#22 Posted by gla55jAw (2696 posts) -

Damn. these better be cheap. I'd rather it be on a disk because prices eventually drop.

#23 Posted by Magicallystoopid (466 posts) -

I like that they're putting them on one at a time, especially since I only really want Sands of Time... as it was the only really good game in the series.  Simply put it didn't do any of that "WE'RE EXTREME BLOOD AND GODSMACK AND CRAP!" stuff.

i'm all for more dudes pushing for digital releases, this sounds cool

#25 Posted by TheHT (11786 posts) -

Damnit, I want a physical copy to hold in my arms and whisper sweet nothings to. Guess I'll have to hold out and hope or import.

And what's with all the hate for Warrior Within? Yeah the Godsmack shit is pretty corny but damn if the choices in combat aren't fun to make. Am I gonna hop over this guy or steal his weapon? How about BOOOOOTTTTTTHHHH!!!!!

#26 Posted by LiquidPrince (16175 posts) -

Fucking fuck.... I want physical...

#27 Posted by Bad_JuJu (42 posts) -

Something screwy going on here with this trilogy being "exclusive".  I'd bet that the exclusivity is only contained to PSN over XBLA.  I expect that the trilogy will be released on disk next spring for both 360 and PS3.  If not, it doesn't matter anyway... These are old as gamez most everybody has played!!!!

1 word: import

#29 Posted by GooieGreen (454 posts) -

Sony is getting a lot of PS2 era franchises locked down with exclusives. I... sorta... like?

None of them really interest me. I'm sure they make other Sony fans happy.

Kingdom Hearts Collection, please.

Aw that would be sweet. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm liking these HD collections, games I missed out on are cheaper and look better than they did before.
#32 Posted by crusader8463 (14429 posts) -

I want a Ratchet and Clank and a Jack and Daxter collection. I never got around to playing those games in the PS2 days and would love to get a box set ala the sly copper one.

#33 Posted by Marconi88 (97 posts) -

I guess I'm importing this game then.

Anyone know any good places where I can import games from Europe?

Yeah, I sort of feel the same way. But to my defense I can say that I never owned a PS2 so I've missed out on all the great series from that era.

I'm a bit bummed this is not coming to the Xbox, though.
#35 Posted by InsanePenguin (18 posts) -

Sonuvabitch. I don't have a PS3.

#36 Posted by CharleyTony (924 posts) -

if they need a blu ray disc to hold all 3 games, they could release each of them online... my 360 has more storage space than my ps3 !

And concerning the european bluray, my guess is that it will be region free, so you could buy it online

#37 Posted by ch13696 (4582 posts) -

I Already own all 3 on the PC and the PS2. I might pick these up for the trophies. Just maybe.

Yes, this. Also would love to see Silent Hill and MGS collections.
#39 Posted by Duffyside (898 posts) -

This makes me nervous. I like boxes, and would prefer a Blu-ray collection myself, but if it's never going to come to disc, then I'll buy the PSN title. However, what if it DOES come to a disc in 6 months. All three of them. That'd be a bummer.

Why on Earth would they do this? Just release the box every where, you dopes.

#40 Posted by Akeldama (4257 posts) -

Been close to getting these on steam more than I'd care to mention. Glad I waited.

#41 Posted by Red (5994 posts) -

Cool, probably gonna pick up The Sands of Time sometime this long winter.

#42 Posted by Roger778 (960 posts) -

I have to say that I'm disappointed that this trilogy is not coming out on X-Box Live.  I've thought of playing Warrior Within and The Two Thrones for some time, considering that I've already got the Sands of Time.  Hopefully, Sony will import them over next year.
#43 Posted by bartok (2582 posts) -

Hey I really liked the 3rd game Two Thrones.  I can understand why people shit on Warrior Within but please explain to me why Two Thrones is considered crap.

#44 Edited by Cazamalos (983 posts) -

i only want to replay the sands of time(specially on HD with trophies), the other two are not necessary, so i'm ok with this

#45 Posted by EvilNiGHTS (1093 posts) -

I'll probably be getting the disc. Keep forgetting it's coming out this Friday.

I wonder how many of the people saying Sands of Time was the only good one actually played the other two. Both had their faults but they're both vastly superior to the 2008 game and there haven't been many "cinematic platformers" (as Wikipedia calls it) to that standard since.

#46 Posted by HydraHam (1338 posts) -

Either the "HD" versions of this look like shit or i just remember the games looking better, either way no disc = no sale and i don't care for importing.

I am not a fan of digital download, especially when it should be on disc and can be released on disc.. lazy fucks

Do you say this as a "diss" to 2008, or are you saying that even though 2008 was good, these games are better?

I ask because I love 2008.
#48 Posted by Beforet (2934 posts) -

Digital distribution only, also known as The Future!

Eh, kinda wish NA was getting a disc, but I'm really only interested in played Sands of Time so this kind of works for me.

#49 Posted by MikkaQ (10344 posts) -

Well that just about kills my interest in this. Not that I was terribly interested in playing games from the last generation anyway. It's not exactly nostalgic till at least two gens back.

God Lord does this game look ugly.
