So, with the next iteration of PoP, we're getting a new and quite unique artistic direction.
So, my question is, what is your take on it?
Personally, I am in love. I dig the character designs, and the contrast the characters have on the sorrounding environment. The style has a lot of personality, and I know I'm going to love playing this game.

hell yay

way too many dark crusty looking games on the 360... colors are nice to look at some times

i think it looks awsome,  but i't be just as cool with realistic graphics too

I'm a huge Prince of Persia fan, so I would have loved it either way. However, I am digging the new art direction, in particular, the Okami style world re-invigoration is terrific.

I feel like I need to see more of it before I can really decide, but I'm optimistic.  The only thing that has me worried is that sometimes it feels like the characters really stick out from the background, and not in a good way.  I dunno, sometimes it just seems like they don't quite fit.

I really love the art style of the game and hope more games choose this direction. Afro Samurai has a similar style and that's the only reason I'm interested in that game. My only problem with the art of the new PoP game is that I don't really like the Prince's look. I don't know what I'd rather see him look like, but I don't really like him in his current state.

Ye the new PoP's art style is bright, different and totally the opposite of most games who seem to follow the dark greys and dull tones.

its okay, i dont see why it gets so much hate.

#9 Posted by LouChou (458 posts) -

I really like it. It works great. The screenshots I saw in Edge were sweet.

#10 Posted by RabbitKarrot (362 posts) -

I am a huge fan of that style of art/graphics.

Cel-shaded, but not too cel-shaded. Like Crackdown. You feeling me?

#11 Posted by mgsninja (26 posts) -

I like it.

#12 Posted by Scizorz (60 posts) -

i only played sands of time and i loved the puzzles and look of it, the combat was meh but very good.
I absoluteley love the art style, its pretty unique for cell shading, love how some areas of the cel shading have defined textures, makes it pop.

#13 Posted by atejas (3057 posts) -

i like it, but I feel the Prince's sword is too big.

#14 Posted by suneku (2997 posts) -

I like the new look.

#15 Posted by Resonate (172 posts) -

yeah, seems pretty cool to me

#16 Posted by RVonE (4638 posts) -

Well, it is definitely fresh, I guess I like it. I'll have to see it in action a bit more, I think.

#17 Posted by MutenMiller (216 posts) -

I absolutely love it. 1 part Crackdown, 2 parts Okami, all parts rad. I thought the E3 trailer, with the music choice and everything, was amazing.

#18 Posted by Illmatic (1358 posts) -

Yay.

#19 Posted by sdodd02 (722 posts) -

yay for sure.

#20 Posted by giyanks22 (2681 posts) -

Yay. I love the artistic style of the game. I have never seen a fantasy video game with such vivid and detailed art as this. The scenery looks awesome. I really like the way this is going.

I think it's really nice, I'm glad they are taking a new direction with the game.  I can't wait to play it.

Meh, realism>art in my opinion

Well, I've always adored cel shading, so I loved the style from the start. And after seeing some gameplay, I began to love it a little bit more. The first game in the most recent Prince of Persia-trilogy was great, the other two felt too depressing. That's just what I think. This new artistic direction and the new gameplay elements promise something new, fresh and exciting. Ubisoft is far from my favorite game developers, but they have some good games on their resume. Like the already mentioned Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and also Beyond Good and Evil and XIII (I'm most likely forgetting some game, so don't shoot me).

My excitement gauge is set at "Incredibly excited" and the only way I am going to survive whilst waiting is to start playing some good RPG. Maybe Suikoden V?

Im liking the new look

I am digging the new look for the PoP series. So its a Yay for me.

#26 Posted by nate64 (30 posts) -

i love the "illustrated" art style and it's nice that the series is basically starting over completely cause after the first sands of time game it went downhill fast. so the art is just one of many reasons why this game is going to rock.

i think yay
not sure yet

#28 Posted by Netmorten (3 posts) -

yay

#29 Posted by jlaudio7 (326 posts) -

Yay.

#30 Posted by samcotts (2258 posts) -

Nay.

I've never played a PoP game before, and after seeing this new art style, I don't think I'll be starting with this game.

#31 Posted by neoepoch (1295 posts) -

I really enjoy it. I love cel-shading I think it is a great art style that really stands out in a game. Realism is cool I guess, but the whole reason I play games is to not really think about the real world, cause lets face it. If we want realistic graphics then just go outside.  Crazy and different art styles allow developers to make crazy and different worlds.

#32 Posted by BiggerBomb (6944 posts) -

Yay, I like it a lot. I've never been able to get into PoP but now that it is a new story and practically a new game I might check it out. I love cell shaded games.

#33 Posted by Demyx (3237 posts) -

never been into the series, but this game looks really great.

#34 Posted by Systech (4078 posts) -

I think it is way better than that Sands of Time stuff.

#35 Posted by 8th_pacifist (24 posts) -

Meh. I loved Jet Set Radio Future (about the only cel-shaded game I've played) but it seems out of place somehow here.
Oh, and they can call it "Illustrative" all they want, it's still cel-shading. But I've got no real problem with it.

My problem with the way this game looks is more with the animation. There was a gameplay video on gametrailers (some other topics have embedded it) and they've taken away all the realistic touches that made him so convincing, even when he was completely over the top. It seems the journey into cartoon land has prompted them to take the animation into Ninja Gaiden-like territories.

God, this franchise has gone downhill since Mechner left. And that was friggin' years ago!
I'm gonna go be depressed now.

it looks awesome, yay.

#37 Posted by brukaoru (5079 posts) -

Definitely "yay." I really love the new art style, I think it's amazing.

#38 Posted by Pibo47 (3166 posts) -

Yay, not that i dont love the old art style...but this new one....man its crazy cool.

#39 Posted by pyromaniac (1703 posts) -

I like the bright colors and such but the game kinda looks cartoonish..I guess I gotta see more of it before I make a concrete decision....

#40 Posted by Vinchenzo (6192 posts) -

Yay, and it's easy to see why. The first PoP for PS2 was a great and bright looking game. Colorful and vast. Then the 2nd game came along and got a bit darker, and the 3rd one just suffered from the direction they went with the art direction. This new PoP is looking great, reminds me of Sands of Time.

#41 Posted by Linkyshinks (9880 posts) -

Yaya, it's more akin to the original.

#42 Edited by uberpwner93 (413 posts) -

I'm sure the art style will take the game somewhere, but for now I'll say nay.

#43 Posted by atejas (3057 posts) -

Very yay.
It's like a perfected version of the Wind Waker's art style.

#44 Posted by Kush (8889 posts) -

I absolutely love the new art style. I think it looks beautiful and I would love to see more games go in this direction. That being said, I am not a fan of the new Prince's character design at all. If there was anything I would like them to change before release...it's the way the Prince looks in the game.

#45 Posted by daniel_beck_90 (3159 posts) -

I think they needed to change the art style of  POP game since they should leave realism for Assassin's Creed 2

#46 Posted by Snail (8604 posts) -

NAY! I want a good old Prince of Persia game with amazing graphics!

#47 Posted by Win (541 posts) -

I totally love the new art style. It's look seems to be a perfect combination of fairy tale and hard edge artwork.
