On the heels of Square Enix's announcement that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will ship a week earlier than anticipated, Nintendo has revealed that Professor Layton and the Unwound Future is hitting earlier, too. The game's new release date is September 12--a full eight days less than its previously pegged September 20 release date.
The Unwound Future will be the third Layton game to hit US shores, and while it'll have that new car smell for us, it's definitely old news in Japan where it's been on store shelves since late 2008. One more Layton titles--the sequel to Unwound Future--is still awaiting localization: 2009's Professor Layton and the Spectre's Flute. A fifth title, dubbed Mask of the Miracle, is due out in Japan this Fall.
The Unwound Future, as you might have guessed, revolves around time travel. The plot kicks off in earnest once Layton's sidekick, Luke, receives a message from himself after the duo spend a day checking out a new-fangled time-machine. Puzzles and hijinks ensue as the two get comfortable in its seat and start solving the mysteries future-London holds.
