Beat in 2011

I bought a lot of PC games during the Steam sale in December. I decided I wouldn't buy any other PC games until the following year's Steam sale. And, if I want to buy as many next year as this, I need to beat the games I bought. This is a list of the games I beat in 2011. My goal is to beat one game per month on average.

A lot of these games were released prior to the year 2011. Still, I attempted to pick a favorite from this list of games I beat this year. The choices easily came down to Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2. Which one do I value over the other? I just can't decide, so I'm calling it a draw. This year turned me into an RPG lover.

List items

  • I was not impressed with the gameplay. Before the aliens came, it was great. The graphics and physics are sweet. But it wasn't much fun the second half of the game. I only finished it because of my goal.

  • It was alright. I won't be playing it again. If I had rented it and failed to finish, I wouldn't have rented a second time. However, I think the game is creative and done very well. I may have liked it more a few years ago. I had to push myself to finish it, like Crysis.

  • I chose to play and beat this after being a little disappointed with Crysis and PoP. I wanted one I could be sure was going to be a lot of fun. I chose rightly with Splinter Cell: Conviction. It's excellent.

  • I beat Dragon Age this morning, 4/23. According to Steam, it took 52.4 hours. This is one of the best games I have ever played. It's true that it was designed to be played through more than one time. I feel like I will be missing out if I don't play through it at least one more time. But that will have to wait until I beat my twelve games in 2011.

  • I finished this 5/29. I played through 4 chapters as Experienced. I was debating quitting. I decided to change it to Casual and breeze through it. It wasn't fun enough to be challenging and like it. It was OK in easy mode to play through the campaign, hear the story and jokes.

  • I beat Mafia II 7/25/2011. I tried to beat Tropico 3 in June, but I just didn't get it done. Mafia II turned out to be more fun than I expected. The game and story are constructed together very well. It is like playing through a mobster movie. I didn't want it to end.

  • Got this for free using an Amazon gift card that I received as a gift for completing an IT survey. The game was quite fun. I played through it in one night with my cousin and beat it. Then I turned around and sold it. It was way better than Resistance 3. We rented that first and it was terrible.

  • I played through this with my daughter. We both liked it. We played local co-op on my PC. She used a 360 controller, and I used KB and mouse. It worked well. The game allows for multiple controllers, but I only have the one 360 controller. I didn't want to mess around with drivers for my PS3 controllers.

  • Beat this playing the Eldar with a friend. It took 9-10 hours on the regular difficulty. It was too easy I must say, being an experienced DoWII player (145+ hours). You can play through the campaign with so many races that I owe it to myself to play through once or twice more. That will have to wait. When I do, I'll turn up the difficulty.

Oh... fun level? It's DoWII, what do you think? Since there was no challenge, it didn't feel like an accomplishment to beat any level or even the last mission. Thus, the fun level was slightly lower than previous installments. When I play through again and turn the challenge meter up a bit, I think it would be good ol' DoWII.

  • I finished this tonight after 32 hours. I am sad the game is over, just like I was when I beat the first one. The Mass Effect games have shifted me from feeling meh toward RPGs to loving them. Give me more.

  • It's the afternoon of 12.31.2011. I beat the single player campaign of Portal 2. I beat the cooperative campaign about a week ago with my cousin. Portal 2 is fantastic. Both campaigns are very, very fun. This game is a work of art.

Looking at my games library, there aren't any games I want to spend the rest of the day completing before midnight. I did not beat twelve games in the year 2011. But I was close.

This year, I bought the most Steam games during the Thanksgiving sale instead of the end of the year one. I didn't buy as many as last year though. I have plenty to get me through to the sale in July.

Seeing as I don't have much time left, it's doubtful I'll be able to complete my goal of beating twelve games this year. The games I have begun this year but not yet finished are Tropico 3, Dirt 3, and Mass Effect 2. I got stuck at hard spots in the first two games and moved on. I am loving ME2, but it's a long game. If I want to beat four more games before January 1st, my best bet might be to start and finish some easy, short games.
