Things Ain't So Dead In Space
It’s been a little while since we had a jaw dropper from the survival horror genre and I think this is one of the many yet to come. Just for safety reasons you might want to keep that jaw clenched tight since you’re about to witness unnatural severing of many limbs and body parts. Although the story in Dead Space might not be as fresh and original as some would like, it still manages to provide some excellent storytelling. Isaac encountering a Guardian
Isaac encountering a Guardian
I just past the half way point in Dead Space and I must say this game is suprisingly good, impressive even. I pretty much walked into this game blind folded, not knowing the smallest detail to what I was gonna be in for. So verdict so far I'm damn suprised to how good this game is, Visuals CHECK, Audio CHECK, Gameplay CHECK, Story CHECK, ALL the right boxes are ticked, So I'm jumping back in... well.. maybe after I get the tension out of my sholders... these necromorphs jumping out every second are starting to get me paranoid... Anyways reviewing it once I'm done.

Give Me Light
I just finished playing Molyneux's Fable 2 and how I'd love to celebrate... somehow I've been left underwhelmed. I mean it had all the rights elements, but I just feel there was something missing. Maybe a voice for the Hero - Maybe a slight polish on the visuals ? Or Maybe my standard are too high (Like many others out there) ??

Entertaining sequel mixing humour, combat and morality decisions

I can’t deny that this game is probably one of the top rated Action-RPGs to date & you’ve probably heard about all the new features, bells and whistles the game has to offer. As a result it delivers as promised but with standards being pushed higher and higher there are a number of issues that might irritate some.

While trying to keep originality in the story the moral choices you are beset upon sometimes make it feel like you’re reading a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book, giving the format of “If you decide to enter the cave: turn to page 7” only difference is with some choices in the game you can’t skip back a couple pages to right your wrongs. Your choices now feel like they have some importance and meaning to your adventure.

Gameplay can sometimes times feel a little mechanical with the occasional clipping glitch here and there while the combat system, I must say felt a little lack-lustre and tedious at times, repeatedly pressing one button to smash un-dead to pieces not to mention the greatly reduced number of weapons, clothing and items. Yet surprisingly I managed to keep going to the end (I must admit the twisted humour had me tittering through most of my journey in Albion)

In comparison to the first Fable I can say the visuals are great BUT not ground breaking. It seems as though a bit of polish could have been added to smoothen out the rough edges. A few examples include, borrowed character models from the previous game, some dated visual effects and a weird pixelated effect every time you acquire a “level-up”. Although they might seem small, seeing them all the time while you play just made me wonder why they didn’t bother to fill in the cracks.

Ultimately while being an entertaining game it seems as if Fable II was dumbed-down to appeal to the masses. Be wary contents consist of Good and Evil material.

From the get go you are plunged deep into a world with a thick and tense atmosphere where you must fight for survival on a colossal spaceship know as the USG Ishimura. On the subject of atmosphere, the constant yet seamless soundtrack offers an eerie backdrop to every location you enter adding to the tense air around you.  If you haven’t seen the animated comic or animated movie I would highly recommend them, as they provide a great back story.

The gameplay though not revolutionary and possibly repetitive at times, still manages to keep you compelled and eager to progress forward. This is possibly due to the success of the integrated HUD along with natural level and story progression. Progression trough the game wouldn’t be possible if it were not for the abundance of weapons and items. It must be said originality really shines through this section. Only here you will find weapons for “strategic dismemberment” and boy is it satisfying to witness legs being torn at the thighs or even the customary beheading. Now where would weapons be if there were not the enemies to use them on? Dead Space provides a nicely balanced assortment of enemies for you to quench your newly found dismembering thirst, with this said you will not always be overwhelmed with enemies but you will always be wary of what’s around every corner or what could be behind you.

As mentioned by many reviews before me the controls are one of the best I’ve come across in a third person survival horror. Bottom line is they are sharp, responsive, and well balanced which all the more adds to the fun and excitement the game already offers. With that said on a more personal note it wouldn’t have hurt to have a mouse at hand during a number of zero gravity moments.

Finally this game really pulls of some stunning visuals. The graphics provide a nice bonus to your exploration onboard the Ishimura. With no major issues or bugs yet to be seen I can say that this is definitely one of the top pieces of eye candy to be seen this year. Every little detail has been taken care of, and I mean every arm, leg, torso, head… the list goes on. An intricate detail such as a dismembering animation or weapon animation just gives that satisfying feeling and allows you to be immersed deeper into the game.

Result?

Although it doesn’t give that scare factor some may long for it is still an extremely entertaining game. It provides a compelling story, 12-ish hours of tense yet fun gameplay with tight controls, and stunning visuals. What more could you ask for? Why not see if you have that dismembering talent. Stop reading and go get it!

I'd prefer not to, but seeing as though you missed tea and biscuits, I can't but help myself!! lol! any ways, I need your help... I wanna buy Dead Space, but I don't know whether or not to get it for PC or 360. I get loadsa ppl on forums saying that its got better graphics on PC, but better controls on 360!! (they say you can easily get passed the controls of the PC though (u get used to them)). would you say that the Dead Space controls are like Gears of War, i.e. they are responsive and fairly sharp!
