(Gaming Days x 30)^1337: Day 9 - Saddest game scene

 FUUUUUCK YEAH!
 FUUUUUCK YEAH!
The ending of Link's Awakening really made me sad.  I thought it was beautiful.  That montage of the world that would disappear when Link and the fish wake up?  His friendship with... whatever her name was?  All those... moments would be lost in time, like... a link to the past.  HHHHNNNGHNGH  Seriously, I found that scene really sad.

All of the BioShock endings are sad.  Even the good ones.  Shit, manly tears were nearly shed at that "best" ending of Sea of Dreams.

The Mother Brain fight of Super Metroid made me think, "OH NOOOO!!" but I didn't find it that sad.  Sure, I got attached to the Metroid Hatchling (no pun intended).  You know how much shit I had to go through to get it in Metroid II?  THAT FUCKING GAME.  If it wasn't for turbo firing, I would never have beaten the Queen.

Anyway, Super Metroid.  You spend the whole damn game trying to find the hatchling, only to find its empty tank after taking down Ridley, and then you see the horrible mutation they've put it through.  And what does it do?  It sacrifices itself to save its "mother."  That scene where its colour changes, the screen goes black and it dies?  I'm pretty sure I yelled "NOOOOOOOOO!!" at my screen.  I avenged it, though, AND had time to save the Etecoons and Dachoras.  LIKE A BOSS.

Other game moments could, or maybe should, have been sad, but failed, like the Metal Gear Solid storyline where Meryl is dead, or the times in Prey when your grandfather is brutally killed while you try in vain to save him, and later when your girlfriend is bonded to a ferocious beast which aims to kill you, and the only way to stop it is to kill her.  She dies without you even being able to tell her you love her.  These moments, and others, could have been powerful, but unfortunately, just fell flat.  To me, anyway.
