On Nearly Getting Struck By A Car

While I'm no stranger to being hit by a motor vehicle under controlled conditions, today was somewhat different.  While crossing a downtown Montreal street, some dude pulled the corner without slowing down and almost hit me head on.

My first instinct was to block rather than dodge.

Maybe I have been doing too much gaming after all.  It wouldn't be fair to blame this on videogames when really it was just me being an idiot.

My instinct would be to jump. If I managed to jump a moving car, I'd feel like jesus or something.

Was it worse than this?

Eh, I wouldn't blame it on video games, choosing to duck and cover is kind of a human response. It's what I did when I got hit.

I almost get hit by cars, pretty much everyday. It's not even that I'm running across the streets. It's always at the lights when it says I'm good to cross.

I drive a car for a living, and have been driving 35,000 to 40,000 miles a year for a long time. I've nearly been killed so many times I've lost count but I've only ever had a single accident. That accident was a deer that jumped directly into my car while I was going 50 miles an hour. It was completely unavoidable. Other than that I've been able to avoid everything: multiple head on collisions, people running read lights, people changing lanes without looking, etc.

You may ask, "does he have super powers?" Nay, young one, I just treat every single person I see on the road as if they were actively trying to kill me at any moment. Keep that in mind and you'll go far. ;)

To quote Piccolo from DBZ: Abridged: "Why...didn't...you...DOOOOOOOOOOOODGE?!?!?!"

Seriously, though, that's a scary time. I almost got hit by a car once and actually had a friend grab the hood of my coat and yank me up onto the sidewalk. It's one of those "That was a REAL moment" moments.

I thought of that, but not before thinking of using my bionic arm.  Then I remembered that I don't have one.

I watched our cashier at the Pizza place at work run a red light and get totally annihilated by oncoming traffic. I was pumping gas at the time, and when the cops/ambulances/fire truck started to show up, I was thinking "Shit! They're going to be pulling the pieces of her out of that car!"  Turns out she's gonna be just fine- she hit her head on the window hard enough to crack it, but showed up to work a week later with no visible cuts- just a limp. Oh- and she doesn't have a car anymore. I wonder how she feels... SEE WHAT TEXTING WHILE DRIVING CAN DO!?!

I have zero, nada, zilch concept of the green cross code. It just doesn't register to me. I will more often than not, willingly walk into the middle of road, with traffic just to cross the road quicker.

I didn't equip my knife that day, or else I might have tried that, too.  Hey, it worked for Krauser's knees, right?

My best friend hit me with a white minivan.  I spun over the hood, soared through the air, slammed into the side of a dumpster, and landed on a pile of ant-infested sand.  Shit was so cash.

the only time i can remember where i nearly got hit by a car was when i was crossing when it was my right to and a speeding car ran the red light and came inches away from me. I can distinctly remember my heart stopping for a full second.
