My thoughts on E3 Day 00 (Microsoft and Sony)

Well that was a weird beginning for E3. It started at Microsoft and well it was an ok conference. I would say the best parts were MW3, Tomb Raider, Gears of War 3, Forza 4 and Halo 4 (I thought it would have been better if it didn't leak). I though the Future Soldier demo of customizing your gun with Kinect was cool and using Mass Effect 3 to move your AI is good. Kinect Star Wars and Disney Kinect seems like cash in titles. Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports 2 was already given based on success and Ryse really does not interest me. Microsoft should of played up XBLA because those games they put out are great and they should of mentioned cloud saving.

Sony started strong with Uncharted 3. That game is going to be GOTY contender. Did not like the Resistance 3 demo and why is NBA2k12 being demoed. A new Sly Cooper being announced was a little shock but they did tease it with Sly Cooper Collections. Dust and Star Trek game is not really a big deal.  Bioshock Infinite will always be better with a controller instead of motion controls and the bigger news is a Bioshock game coming to Vita. More exclusive content coming to PS3 via EA is not suprising.  PS Vita games look good and honestly the highlight of Sony's show would be the price of Vita.

It I were to give it a grade Microsoft would be a C+ to a B-. Sony would get a solid B. Both had good points to their conferences and Sony wins based on new hardware.

However I think Nintendo will win in the end with a new home console.

Why can't gamers be civil?

As a gamer, I go and visit multiple sites and message boards to read about the latest news and also the comments from gamers. Today Eurogamer posted a rumor about what  their sources are telling them about the Microsoft E3 press conference. The big news was that we should expect 10 non sequel Kinect games that are aimed at the "hardcore" audience. All it took from the report was Kinect to start the never ending battle of motion control gaming and hardcore.

At one side of the argument are the people saying Kinect is trash and Microsoft already lost E3 by mentioning Kinect. On the other side of the argument you have the people who defend Kinect and want to see "hardcore" games for it. Then there are the minority who have no interest in Kinect but willing to see what Microsoft has up it's sleeve when it comes to Kinect games. I side with the minority. I don't own a Kinect and really not sure if I will ever buy one, but I do understand that Microsoft sold close to 10 million Kinects and I'm sure those guys are waiting to play something else other than Kinect Sports and Dance Central.

In reading the comments about the Eurogamer rumor on numerous sites and the longer the threads got the more less civil it got. I'm talking about straight up bashing on other people thoughts when it comes to someone disagreeing to your opinion. I know I'm asking too much but it's alright to disagree on something. You really can't dislike a person if they hate motion controls and vice versa.

At the end of the day this rumor could be false.

The Countdown to E3 begins today

Today Nintendo announced that they will have a new console that will be playable at E3 and will be out in 2012. This announcement officially begins the E3 countdown for me.

Nintendo will have a new console to show, they will show the next batch of 3DS games and maybe Wii's swan song in Skyward Swords.
Sony already has a stellar lineup remaining for 2011, they will give the full details to the NGP from launch window and also the important cost of system.
Microsoft is the mystery. We know Gears of War 3, Forza 4, and the next batch of Kinect games.

For Microsoft the lack of new hardware hurts them when it comes to gamers because we all want to hear about the new hotness. Does the hardware announcements from Nintendo and Sony forces Microsoft hand to show something for the future of the Xbox brand.

We will find out in June but the countdown starts now.

My first complete Halo game

Halo Reach is the only Halo game that I completed from start to finish. Even though I use my 360 more than my PS3, I was never big on Halo. Halo: Reach would probably had been my game of the year last year if I had played it then. The story and the epic battles were awesome and the multiplayer is fun especially firefight. Honestly I can't wait to see what 343 has up it's sleeve.

Microsoft delivers good news and bad news to start the week

The week could not have started any poorer for Microsoft. The announcement of the $10 increase of Xbox Live turned the gaming community into a frenzy. This morning we get the news of the new 360 controller but then the bad news of the price.

However Microsoft did deliver the good news on the announcement of their Fall promotion called Game Feast. This promotion brings big titles such as: Hydrophobia, Comic Jumper and Super Meat Boy to XBLA in late September. Also on the news front Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury was just announced for a November release for XBLA. Bangai-O HD joins such titles of KOF:2002 UM, KOF: Sky Match, Guwange, Plants VS Zombies, Sonic Adventure who could all see a Fall and Winter release dates.

It has been a up and down last couple days for the 360 however they have dominated the news fronts and I expect it to continue with release of Halo: Reach and the TGS Keynote.

2011: The year of gamers going broke

Following Sony's Gamecom conference, you can easily say that 2011 is stacked.

Sony will bring you these exclusive titles:
Killzone 3
Resistance 3
Infamous 2
Socom 4
Motorstorm: Apocalypse
Ratchet and Clank: All For One
Yakuza 4
The Last Guardian (probably)
Final Fantasy Versus 13 (probably)

Microsoft and Nintendo usually announce their games closer to the release date.

For 2011 we can expect from the both so far:
 Zelda: Skyward Sword
Gears of War 3
Codename: Kingdom (probably)

You still have all the motion control games for Move and Kinect , the launch of the 3DS and the downloadable games.

Then the Multiplatform games:
Rage
Mortal Kombat
MVC3
Portal 2
Dragon Age 2
LA Noire
Batman Arkham City

I am probably missing some games but remember we thought 2010 was going to be a crazy year for gaming, 2011 looks even better.

My hatred of Ken

How can one move make me hate a character so much. It's my fault of thinking a person won't do it. My online matches against Ken consist of the same routine of jump, kick, sweep and into srk. I knock the person down and get hit with a wakeup srk. I can't blame the person using Ken because if I allow him to do it, why should he stop.

What is Microsoft going to show other than Natal at E3

With Gears of War 3 being announced almost 2 months in front of E3 and a year from being released, what new game announcements does Microsoft have plan for the future. I know we are going to hear about Natal and the launch line up, probably hear about Halo Reach single player, something new for Fable 3 but what about in 2011 and beyond. Are we going to get info about Mass Effect 3, maybe Itagaki makes an appearance or Microsoft gets Square to go multiplatform for FF13 Versus. I am sure Microsoft has games to show but it just seems to me that they have most of their eggs in one basket when it comes to Natal.

First Blog

So I am long time listener and first time blogger. It's April and it's really a surprise of how many great games already came out so far. You can honestly say that there are 4-5 games right now that are game of the year candidates. Can't wait for E3 to see what else is coming this year.
