I recently had a discussion about this with someone online and we seem to agree that Scripted Sequences in video games can work both ways. When i think about many of the best moments i've seen in a game, most of them were scripted sequences. Scenes from video games like SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.
the death of Andrew Ryan in Bioshock, ending of Half life 2 or the nuke from CoD4.
Scripted sequences can work and a lot of times do very well. However it seems like newer games are either overdoing them, avoiding them or just not doing them very well. Modern Warfare 2 is of course the big example of overdoing it and games like BC2 are examples of set pieces that don't work very well (BC2 is still an awesome game). Video games like Far Cry 2 are also ones that could have had a lot more. However it seems like newer games are having a more difficult time with Scripted Sequences (Probably because it's hard to come up with new and shocking ones) then they were back with games like Half life 2 and Call of Duty 2. Developers always have to up the ante, but it's getting more and more ridiculous as time goes by. Anyways these are just my thoughts on Scripted Sequences in Video games. If you have an opinion on them please leave a comment below.
I just bought Metro since it was 50% off on steam. However when it wont start up, i installed all the steps, but, it wont start up. My graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 5670.
Thanks a lot for the comments guys. I would say the 5 company's i see most on here are Rockstar, Blizzard, Nintendo, Capcom and Valve. I'm just very happy that i haven't seen any IW or Bungie fanboys on here.
I'm sure that there is a thread like this, but, I'm going to post this anyways.
What do you think is the greatest gaming company of all time? For me i would say my favorite is Ubisoft. Valve came close however my main problem with them is that they have been around for over 10 years and the only games that they have made are Half Life and Left 4 Dead (CS, TF and DoD were all done by modders). The great thing about Ubisoft is that they never try to rip off their community and they can make great games that are not in the same franchise. Splinter cell, rainbow six, ghost recon, far cry instincts and 2, rayman, beyond good & evil, King Kong the game, Prince of persia and so on. They are also great publishers to.
