Shaman King Power of spirit review

Warning this Review contains NO mention of what the story is it mentions the quality of the story but does not go into detail, this is so I can't accidently spoil something for you. Just know all of the main characters are in this game.

The Good:
Easy to get into, good entry level game for those new to fighting games or strategy games you can play as the Zombie of a Kung-Fu  star, expands on the story, Cool Intro.

The Bad: the extra story parts are lame and over power the existing story about half way through , lame cutseens, to get to the best part of the game you must beat the game first, both game play aspects are two shallow. I mean REALLY SHALLOW.

Shaman King Power of Spirit is a Fighter/Strategy game hybrid for the PS2, based on the shaman king anime/manga. And let me get this out of the way, I frickin LOVE Shaman King and will try not to let that get in the way of this review.

STORY:
Instead of what most anime video games do for story which is either add a whole new story that turns out to be a piece of crap, because it can't change the existing story, or include a highly summarized version of the main story that is to vague to get any of the drama out of it but will still spoil the story for you. This game dose BOTH it has a crapy add on story AND a surmised version of the main story. and tells it with stills of the characters. But to be fair the Character designs of the new characters are peaty good and the new story bits are good when you look at other licensed games.

Graphics: in terms of graphics Shaman King Power Of spirit looks.. okay most of the character models look fine and the special attacks look nice but the backgrounds are quite nasty looking, and some of the grunt enemies look like crap. And the opening graphics look really rad.

Sound: The sound is one of Shaman King Power of spirit's best areas, the background music is fine is nondescript, you attacks sound really painful add what  voice overs are there, sound fine. Not to mention the games opening is better then the one on the American show.

Gameplay:  Shaman King's Gameplay is split into two parts, one part fighter and one part Tactics RPG. But all parts are really bare bones, you are very limited in teams of combos and most fights degrade into button mashing, the strategy part is not that great either, the problem are twofold one is that your opponents are dumb as bricks and two if you are good at button mashing you don't need strategy.

But since there are two different kinds of gameplay allow me to go a little bit more in depth with both of them.

Lets Start with the fighting. In battle you have three gages, Strength (Life), Furyoku (magic) and a kanji symbol  at the bottom that fills up and when it does you can use some crazy damaging attack, which looks really cool the first time but gets old. Once in a battle you and one or more opponents duke it out in a 3D arena, you have a few attack buttons, a handful of combos and Special moves that drain your Furyoku, a block and your ultimate move that can be used when you're kanji thing is filled. Before the start of a battle you can choose between Spirit Unity 100% and Spirit control, for the first few levels you only have Spirit Unity, but once you get Spirit control there is no reason to use Unity because Spirit control gives you more attack power and other things and has no downside, the reason you can even choose is beyond me, you even look cooler.

And Now for the strategy part. This part is peaty slandered, you and your partners are on a grid you all have levels (the leveling up is peaty restricting) items and attacks. Outside of battle you can use items to heal you and your party members move and attack. But unlike most games of this kind, when you use your basic  attack it triggers a fighting sequence. You do have a few ranged attacks but they use up to much Furyoku, and don't do much damage. You can rush your enemy in every battle and the ai is brain dead which takes out most of the strategy but I do have one nice thing to say, you can attack on a diagonal which you can't do in most tactics games.

ROUND UP:  While shallow it is easy to recommend this game to big fans of the show, but you might want to be almost finished with the show so there are no spoilers. Also one of the main characters is left out. And once you beat the Game you unlock a versus mode which can be fun for a little while if you know another fan of Shaman King.

Sin and Punishment Review

Sin and Punishment: Inherit the earth is a Virtual Console N64 game for the Nintendo Wii that was released on October 1st 2007.

Please note that this Review contanes no spoilers and preaty much no mention of the story in it's curent state.

The Good: Verry fast verry fun , only $12.00 , Top notch sound and art desine

The Bad: Should have been $10.00 Short as Hell the 2 player is throw away

Sin and Punishment: Inherit the earth is a Virtual Console N64 game for the Nintendo Wii that was released on October 1st 2007.

Please note that this Review contains no spoilers and pretty much no mention of the story in it's current state.

Sin and Punishment never came out in the states for undisclosed reasons and being a Japanese game it costs 1,200 Wii points($12) instead of the normal 1,000 points ($10). The price increce is kind of a Rip-Off because the only translated part is the tutorial because the original voice work was in English ( and good English at that )

Now on to the actual gameplay ( for the entirety of this review when I mention the controls I will refer to the Game Cube controller because I don't own a classic controller ) Sin and Punishment is played on rails with the player controlling left and right movement jumping aiming and shooting. you strafe with the Y and X buttons, Y is left and X is right you can also y or x twice to dash in their respective direction ( you can also move with the D-Pad ) you use the R or Z buttons to jump and double jump. You aim with the analog stick or C Stick and shoot with the L button and when enemies or certain projectiles get close you can tap the L button to use a sword swing.

The Sound in Sin and Punishment is top notch. All the sound effects are peaty cool and the music is great and fits the levels perfectly the only problem in the the voice acting is so-so

Graphically you can't expect much from Sin and Punishment since it is a N64 game that came out in 2000 by by those standards it is a great looking game.

Sin and Punishment is very hard especially in the second half of the game on hard. Enemies are constantly coming at you and that's a good thing. The main baddies you will be facing are the monsters known as Ruffians ( yes Ruffians ) and the military group tasked with killing the Ruffians the armed vointeers ( yes you read that part right )

My only major gripe with Sin and Punishment is that it is SUPER short. to get through it once will take a bout an hour but if you obsess with things like maxing out your high score or beating the game with out dying Sin and Punishment can last you many many more hours.
