I'm not really a God of War fan. I played the first, and I thought it was too short, and I didn't feel like playing through it in a higher setting. That, and I found the combat in Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden to be smoother and more satisfying, since I got a bit tired of the same quick time events on the same enemies.

Thank the Gods of gaming Banjo didn't win. It was a decent game, but I don't think it even deserves to be nominated, let alone five stars.

I probably would have given it to Brawl...Although I liked No More Heroes a lot too. NMH is a tougher sell though, since friends at a party will want to try SSBB, and it gained more critical praise then NMH, but the Giantbomb.com staff doesn't like the series for whatever reason.
You know...it's also a shame Okami wasn't on that list. I know it was essentially a port, but man that games deserves more credit than it gets.

Man...Banjo-Kazooie? Seriously? I have the game and thought it was okay, but I don't think the game as nearly as good as Jeff and Brad make it sound. This has nothing to do with me being a Banjo fanboy either (which I'm not), but the vehicle system made the game more of a mod tool then a game. I imagine that a lot of gamers just aren't going to have the patience to sit there and create a vehicle frequently to complete an objective. Building a vehicle that looks cool is one thing....but building something that actually works is another! ...

...Eh, I'm a bit ambivalent on this title. I still have it sealed and I wasn't planning on touching until the patch was released. Still, I wasn't impressed by the demo at all...I mean sure, the vehicle building is interesting but the tasks to collect jiggies weren't very appealing. In the end, it's not the Banjo game I wanted.

Agreed and disagreed. GS's Radiant Dawn review was boring as hell, as well as any other review Lark Anderson does. I do agree with him that it's definitely the worst FE game we have gotten. I loved Path of Radiance to death mostly for one of the best storylines in gaming (IMO) but this iteration had a predictable and generic plot. It seemed I got bored of the ...

I thought the IGN review was poorly written...it seemed more that the guy was complaining about Japanese RPGs following the same conventions rather than trying something new. This reminds me of the Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn review on Gamespot, in which the article whined about lack of Mii support and other Wii-specific features.

I'm pretty far into Megaman 9...all I need are the Wily stages, but I keep loosing in the second to last level: That boss that is like Yellow Devil.

Hello, since I want to improve my writing skills, I was thinking about starting a blog. I'm not sure if it will be popular amongst my friends, but I figured I may just discuss whatever is going on in these entries. Is blogging still popular? Anyway, I have quite a few games to play...even though I should be doing some homework. On the PS2, I've been playing Persona 3 FES, which is a pretty bizarre RPG, especially if you take it out of context. See, you use this in high school who fights these shadow creatures, and he is able to use his powers using an object called an Evoker. He unleashes his powers by placing the Evoker to his head and pulls the trigger....it just happens to look like a gun for some reason. It's not a gun though, but...man Japanese RPGs are pretty strange.
On the PSP I've been playing the Warriors. I saw the film the other day, which my neighbor/friend  Juan Perez loaned to me. It focuses on the backstory of the movie's characters and its okay as a game I suppose. It is pretty linear though, so even though it shares the Rockstar name it doesn't have many similarities to the more popular GTA series.
On the Wii, I was playing Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, even though the game is quite old. I haven't played it too much with friends, but I've been trying to unlock all the characters and such. Unfortunately, my Wii isn't connected, and my mom and brother wouldn't like it if I put in our room, since its pretty crowded. It is shame that my Wii occassionally has trouble getting signal from the router from the living room. Instead, the PS2 is connected there.
On the DS, I've been playing The World Ends With You...which is a ridiculously long title. It has a very Japanese vibe, kinda like the Kingdom Hearts series, heck, it's made by the same creators. The dual screen combat is kinda tricky though, but the game still has a new look that is appreciated. Also, in Professor Layton, there are weekly downloads of new puzzles every Sunday, and some are pretty tricky. I'll probably download the next puzzle before I go to sleep, and I wonder if I can solve it.
Finally, my friend loaned me GTA San Andreas for the PC. It plays okay on my laptop on lower resolutions, but it stutters if I make it run and it's highest setting. I never actually played a Grand Theft Auto game for some reason, I just never got around to it. Sure, a lot of journalists say that GTA4 is the greatest thing known to man, but it never appealed to me for some reason. A game about criminals doesn't offend me...but it never appealed to me either. I suppose I'll finish San Andreas eventually just to see what the hubub is about. Anyway, that's it for today, maybe next time I'll talk about other things that grind my gears or whatever.

Ninja Warriors again!

Ninja Gaiden II has not changed a lot since the last game. Heck, it's practically the same game you played on the first Xbox, although a bit more polished. Still it's a lot of fun to kill enemies in this action game using all of your weapons. It's fast, it's furious....and it can be frustrating. This may frighten newcomers, although there is an easier difficulty setting in the start. Actually, the insane difficulty makes every other game look like the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, so that is a bit of an accomplishment. Nevertheless, the game is a bit short, and there is some word that downloadable content is going to be coming out soon. So if your a fan of the series, you'll enjoy it, but if you are unfamiliar with this kind of action game, you may just consider a rental at best.

The game Jack Thompson never heard of.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is going to be one of the rarest gems of recent years. In it, you are a rookie defense attorney trying to earn a reputation. Phoenix Wright is a likable character, as he defends the innocent of the crimes.
That's where you come in, as you cross-examine witnesses, and reveal their lies. In these court phases, you read a string of boxes, and one of them is going to be misleading, vague, or a blatant lie. If it's the latter, you present an item that is related to what the witness is saying, which is going to contradict the witness. There are also phases where you gather evidence, interview police, bystanders, etc., and move the story along. These phases are not as interesting as the court phases, but the colorful cast of characters moves things along easier. Yes, this game has a good sense of humor, which is often expressed by the very unusual cases and the characters that give exaggerated expressions.
This is a very rare find nowadays, so if you happen to see it, buy it. It's very story driven, and lengthy (maybe about 13 hours), although it doesn't have much replay value. The logical puzzles are probably only going to stump you on your first playthrough, but either way, this is one of the DS's best games, especially if you like anime. Unlike most animes though, this game has been translated effectively, mixing in some humor more native to this region. Keep in mind that this is a text-based adventure though, but if you're reading this odds are you'll love the game anyway.

In the name of Harman

It's hard to review Killer7 by conventional standards when it is a very unconventional game. It is a very surreal experience and a very controversial game. What's interesting about the game is that it won't be remembered because of its content, but its mechanics. This is the factor that will prove whether or not you will enjoy this game. Killer7 breaks pretty much every rule you can think of when making a violent action-adventure: instead of being given free movement, you hold a button that moves you along a set path, instead of a more realistic approach on the graphics, it uses cel shading, and so on. It is a very bizarre experience that is very difficult to summarize briefly, but the main premise is that you've been hired by the government to combat a group of zombie-like suicide bombers called the Heaven Smile. As a syndicate of assaisins, you exterminate targets and use a variety of personas, each with their own distinct abilities. Odds are, you'll find a favorite among them, but it doesn't heavily influence the gameplay.
So why would anyone bother with this game? Well, it's unique, and it has a very unusual story, in which you are never quite sure what is going on. The characters throughout speak in riddles in very intimidating whispering voices, to which you must find solutions to a puzzle in order to proceed.
In the end, if you are an experienced player and wish to try something very different that defies description, than by all means, purchase Killer7. It's very story driven without feeling forced, and it's a game that you'll get a kick out of showing it off to your friends on just how weird it is.
