Best adventure games - 1 per franchise

This is a list of my favorite adventure games with just one game per franchise. I dedicate this to a dead genre. I'm still waiting for your resurrection. The games on this list are not in any order.

I wrote that intro when? In 2008? Now that the genre has been resurrected thanks to Telltale I may finally finish this list.

There are two things Germans love apart from kinky sex: Adventure games and RPGs. Germany gets flooded with B- and C-list Adventure games every year and they still sell well despite their lack of quality. Some Adventure game sequels have only been made because of their performance on the German market. But you won't find any of these games on my list because let's face it: most of them are bad. Look out for my list on Adventure games I like but didn't make this list.

List items

  • As much as I like the new Sam & Max Episodes, this game just doesn't have the soda popers in it. Man, I hate those guys.

  • Time travelling was never so funny.

  • Love for Sail! may be funnier but LSL6 makes it for the puzzles. Hard, but rewarding, just like Ninja Gaiden without the ninjas and sword fighting but with Ayane's boobs

  • Wow, talk about epic storytelling. This is Sierra's best adventure game period!

  • I remember scary nights where I had to sleep with the lights on after playing this game. It still gives me the creeps.

  • This game is up there with such high-class games like MI2 and S&M.

  • They should have made this the fourth film. Multiple ways in an adventure game!?! That's just crazy! But I love it.

  • Wankmeister... hm huh huh hehehe

  • Features: body impaled on a pterodactyl, his head pinned to a wall in another room; body stuffed in a sarcophagus; body stuffed in an ancient armor; body impaled on a stuffed porcupine... I should have put that last one first.

  • Combining two things I love: Adventure games and music. It's unique gameplay really sets it apart and made it hard for people to swallow. Everyone should play Loom but it has two problems: 1. It ends on an annoying cliffhanger and 2. There are at least 5 versions of this game and by far the best are the FM Towns and the CD version. But only one of them features music throughout the whole game while the other has voiceover but background music only plays on occasions.

  • "Look behind you! A two-headed squirrel!" Yeah, real nice what I did just there, am I right?

  • I love you Tim Schafer! 1998 was such a good year for videogames. The penultimate LucasArts adventure game is one of their finest work. Too bad nobody bought it.

  • I don't know which one to choose!!!!!11 This one? Apollo Justice? Trials and Tribulations? Not Justice for all though. That one is just meh. Okay, it's a tie between Ace Attorney and Apollo Justice.

  • "Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word hate was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate." Yeah, I feel you, AM.

  • Aaah Broken Sword, how I enjoyed you with your stunning visuals and beautiful story. When this game came out in 1996 it was really one of the best looking adventure games out there. The story mixed fictional elements with history added some of the occult and bam! Better than anything from Dan Brown and also a few years earlier. Just too bad that none of the sequels can hold a candle to the original. They may be bigger but the narrative is all over the place. There are just so many ups and downs while the first one is just up. It's also easy to acquire (unlike some other games on this list) with the Director's Cut being released for WiiWare and the DS (Get the WiiWare version!) in 2009.

  • I had a hard time deciding if I should put MI2 or CMI in here. I hate to see Ron Gilbert weep but I think CMI is funnier and Dominic Armato's voice makes this game a real treat. And: El Pollo Diablo!

Edit: A year after adding this I feel unsure about CMI. I still enjoy it more than MI2 but I think it's because of the voice-acting. If they rerelease MI2 like they did with SoMI then I may change this entry.

Edit: Monkey Island 2 got the makeover so it makes the list like I promised.
