I think its time for a new skateboarding game. The last other skateboarding game apart from the TH series was simpsons skateboarding which i would rather not talk about....

So Ea bring out this game called skate. (No prizes for guessing what genre it is....)

Skate brings a new set of controls called Flickit. This is the main feature of the game that sets it aside from TH. Basically you use both anologue sticks to do tricks, the left anologue controls the person and the right anologue for the board. So the basic Ollie is just flicking back the controller towards you and then drive it forwards. Then the Flicktrick is pulling bak and realesing it horizontally. The only problem with this feature is that there are to many tricks that are so close to another that you will end up pulling the wrong trick at least 30% at a time.

There isn't much of a story line even though it is attempted. For example at the beginning of the game there is a cutscene all the famous skateboarders (excluding tony hawk of cause) take you to the hospital which sadly you cant skip to get straight to the game. The aim of the game i basically to get all the sponsers and go to the xgames and be a champion.
The map has got so many cool places to skate, just a shame the map is a bit too big to find all of them. The good things about the story mode is that all the way through the game you never get better, you dont get attribute points and all that jazz, meaning that it doesnt matter what player you are it all comes down to skill. It a shame there is so much in game advertising, there isnt a single street which doesn't say Adidas or D*C though the shoes look very good :D

Onto the multiplayer.... and the first thing you notice is that you straight away get into the game and play, the freeskate has got to be my favourite, just get upto 6 other players and play any of the good spots in the game including the xgames mega ramp (awesome) and to danny way's mega compound which is enormous..... There is also ranked matches so you can put your skills against some of the best (and worst) players in the game....
The other downside is the lag you can experience... sometimes you might get lucky and everything runs smooth, or you could get be so laggy one second your on a ramp the next your eating dirt off it.

Extra's : Also on both singleplayer and multiplayer you can take pictures and photo's and upload them to skate's website. then transfer them to youtube to get more pubicity.

To sum up this is a great start to the series and hopefully we will be seeing more soon.
