Well I guess I know what next gen console I'll be getting.
After reading the story on GiantBomb's blog, the decision has never been more clear to me. It's going to be Sony where my heart belongs. Will Microsoft step it up as Gerstmann has suggested... I'm saying no. Just on the side where MS hates to share whatever frequency (or however it works) it's wireless devices work on. Unless this start putting serious heat on them, like say sells spike on the PS3 side when Rock Band 2 comes around, then they could make some kind of commitment... like the groom with a shotgun pointed to the back of his head ...

I'm with phlegms on the screenshots part, sometimes they can be very very misleading. Ohter then that, since its been such a long time since a batman game that grapsped my attention like this one, I'll have to say that I'm putting lots of attention on this game from now on. Also, the adventures of Batman and Robin for SNES was a great game based on the animated series. I'm just saying.

This post relates to: Killer7, Electronic Arts, grasshopper manufacture inc.

Hmm. I actually feel like the biggest fool in the world right now. I mean, making Suda51's studio and the horror genre come together with EA as their sugardaddy is just... genious. Really think about it. for a minute, anyone that has played a Grasshopper labeled game knows what I'm talking about.

*Warning: Spoilers on Killer 7*

Heaven Smiles very disturbingly.
Lets take their most influential game in the west: Killer 7, right? (Haven't played No More Heroes yet) Even tough that game wasn't really trying to be a dedicated horror game, like the Silent Hill or Resident Evil series, and was going more for a shooter on rails experience... MAN! was that game friggin creepy. The Heaven Smiles where like the result of what would have happened if The Joker had his way with the T-Virus. The barrier breaking was done by some lady who had a spirit that slit her wrist and the blood would disintegrate the barriers.
Take advice... from the first dude you ever killed.
Their were themes in the missions of dudes kidnapping little kids and sold their organs in the black market, plus since the main antagonist in that mission liked "little boys", he would stuff the little girls like if they were teddy bears, your victims would be bound yo serve you in the after life and an anorexice dude in a ball gag and S&M red suit is your faithful companion. The setting where as normal as they come i.e. houses, theme parks, schools, etc. but they were creepy scary and not cliche post apocaliptic or silent hill foggy scary, even when some settings where in bright daylight, their was something so creepy that got under your skin.

Not only does Grasshopper creep you out with settings and mild antagonists but also the boss fights, I love those boss fight... sure they  are frustrating at first but they are so friggin creative and rewarding (sometimes in a good yet creepy way). The duel with the pedophile, the marksmanship with the little anime maid girl, the 5 on five duel with the Beautiful Men, the train "cat and mouse" strategy against Almeyda... it was so awsome. Now just imagine getting all that creepiness inside a dedicated horror game. I think I would never play another one of those games ever again, or probably get so desensetised after playing it that RE and Silent Hill would be like: "Whatever" when I play them. Maybe it will up the ante and horror games will start getting creative and not just rely on their past i.e. RE5, no strifying? Bad form!

Of course, it's fair to say that even though I admire their sense of style or whatever creativeness that bubbles inside the risk taking / middle finger showing Grasshopper studio, they can get a bit over the top or nonsensical with there themes... just a bit... a tinsy bit that borders alot in some aspects of their games. Which is where EA comes in, and they will be the dude giving the thumbs up or down on the final results and what needs to be changed, because that at times the gameplay and maybe concept of what GH tries to put out is over the top to the point where many of the people just like the games because of the risk they take or because it looks weird and I bet they would really like the game even more if it had a more solid gameplay and people could understand most of what is trying to be said through themes and symbolism in the games. Its like when an artist makes a figure of clay and he might see friggin "Desperation" and "Sorrow" hugging humankind and people who go see his work in a gallery just see a ball.
Plus, EA's "The Watchers" type of aproximation to developers is very friendly and non interferal in nature so they will not cramp GH's style but rather based on the up coming results maybe suggest and if necesary strongly advise some twicking and smoothness around the corners.
NFS ProStreet seemed like a great game... before it was released.
Then again, I'm very very afraid of some kind of Need For Speed ProStreet or Battlfield: Bad Company DLC product placing / marketing hell scenario to occur which is a very very strong possibility with any publisher and EA's track record. Oh, well as long as the game comes out great overall... afterall nothing is perfect.

Well it was finally confirmed and the Otakufest 2008 (New name) is on for November 2nd '08, whats great is that they will have the dude who has been the latin voice of Goku, Mario Castañeda, as special guest; that guy is probably the best dubbing and most recognized voice in Latin anime for the last 20 years. Also, he is like one of the few exceptions of great alternate voice acting. Gotta meet him, plus the dude who was the voice of Kanon (Saint Seiya) and Neftlye (The second General diployed against the Sailor Scouts in Sailor Moon, the first season) are also coming. I wonder if one of dudes can do a GALAXIAN EXPLOSION or a KAMEHAMEHA in my cell's voicemail recording for me.

This is like Peru's big anual convention for anime, manga, yugioh, magic the gathering, etc (all those nerdy cool things). XD

Down to earth.
Man what a sad day, I just woke up today August 10 and went on Youtube to find myself full of vids paying respects to Bernie Mac, I went over to IMDB and came to grasp in full with reality... Bernie Mac had passed away at the age of 50 years young, from pneumonia complications.

Man, such a great man who brought so much joy and laughter to many lifes. I personally never knew of him until I just one day I saw on TV on his tour The Original Kings of Comedy, in Charlotte, North Carolina; along with Steve Harvey, Cedric The Entertainer and D.L. Hughgley. After just watching that performance and how close to home his comedy was, since his style was honest and brutal family pointing out customs. After that I began watching his appearances on Def Jam and watching him in some profile movies and just became a fan of his work, and how much grounded atmosphere you could feel in any form he appeared in.
Always looking Mac.

Well, rest in peace Bernie and I really hope you finally met up again with your family in the far beyond. You will be dearly missed.

The Spawn name is the only thing rescuable in this game

This game is so awful. It is by far the worst game in the "SPAWN" franchise, on the PS1. Gameplay sucks, the graphics are just wrong... God help it if you were able to just like the music because it sounds (when the sound in the game isn't jacked up) more like a disco rave than a dark tone Spawn theme musical score. Don´t waste your time. Get something else. Also if you are urging to play because you think that if you don't then you are not a die hard Spawn fan, then rent it or borrow it from someone but I´m personally a Spawn fan and I didn´t want to see Spawn for a month because of this awful game; let alone will I ever again pay full price for this kind of  crappy game.

In conclusion, don´t waste your time. Better yet, get the animated series DVD's and watch Spawn there, you'll at least not feel you have wasted your life and money. (The animated series was very cool. Fun fact.)

Simply amazing!

This game has it all: action, fights, gruesome details (blood splater and gore), fan service for the guys and a heck of an unforgetable plot / story.

Ok the main character is just such an awsome badass... top 10 best action heroes up until today.

Don´t mine that it´s an aventure game... it´s also packed with action around every corner and clever yet not imposible puzzle solving. You start this game knowing practically nothing about the story but after the first cinematic sequence you watch and all troughout playing the game, you are left always wanting more. Even finishing the game will leave you with a taught like: "Dude, are they coming out with sequel or something?" The game also makes it worth your while to unlock extras by coming back and playing the game again in different dificulty level or succeding extra chanllenges; for example the game offers videos as to the making of God of War, special bonus levels with fun challenges to approve, character galleries, scrapped ideas prior to and during the game's development and awsome artwork to unlock.

Set in ancient mythological Greece (you know what your in for) where depraved gods rule and the land is in a quasi state of permanent conflict. You play as Kratos, a champion for the gods on Mountain Olympus and with a score to settle with the god of war Ares. His a take no prisoners, shoot / slash first ask questions later  type of fellow. So you pretty much get the idea that this game is for a bit more mature audience (that and the apparent taste for the ladies Kratos has on his spare time).

No more wasting time... it´s a "must play game and comment with your friends later" kind of deal. It will take you epic places in myhology such as the Agean Sea, Athens (Greece), a desert, an impregnable fortress and down to the pits of Hades itself; backed up by a soundtrack the immerses you into the background as if you were watching an epic movie and the hero's story unfold by your own hand as trumpets are inspiring determination into your being to continue on. A must play game, no doubt about it.

Not quite there yet... but close enough.

To be completely honest I had written a pretty awful review about this game before, but something told me to give this game a second chance and I have to admit that I was a bit wrong about this game.

It is probably the fighting game with the most motion freedom in it's gameplay. During the gameplay you can move around the game stages in various ways (dive, fly, dash, etc.) The game should be able to make the characters run but I don´t know how that would work. But in essence you can move just pretty much like the fighting characters in the anime. The gameplay is on-lock with the fighting in the anime, no problem with that. Although the controls can take a time to get used to, becuase they get more technical this time around in comparison of the first 3 Budokai games. So the learning curve is a bit steap and you´ll probably won´t use all of the moves but simpler and essential ones will become used instinctively (guard, dodge, ultra speed dodge, etc).

What makes in my opinion the best feature in this game (which should be a returning one in any future DBZ game) is the option to change the game's voice acting to the one in the original Japanese anime series and retain the text in whatever default language the player chooses. This feature is a great acomplishment because the English voice acting sucks... big time.

On the other part, graphics and gameplay are great... the character selction is well done and have included more characters from the movies and the series. The bad thing is that they are trying out choosing each character's upgrade, transformation and / or diferent body as its own seperate character... which is something nice but they took out the in-game transformation feature from the previous games, that made the fighting very intresting. (Maybe they're saving it for later)

Also, their is a new Potara earring / item fusion feature which will allow the player to (in a creative way) form new items, upgrades and other surprises. These Items of course are won playing through the story mode of the game, which this time around includes story arcs that were known by fans of the series and were lacking in previous games (movie arcs, sidestories, etc). One of my mayor complaints is that although they have included two or more new stages in the game, they have still not been able to include the Janeba dimension stage in which we see Goku, Vegeta, Gogeta and Janeba fight (the one that was all yellow background filled with floating huge and small colored balls... kind of like gumballs); hope it's included soon or sometime in the future.

Last, the new camera tracking system can be a pain to get used to in CQC (Close Quater Combat) but is very useful when you get very far away from your opponent and you need to use your long range attacks (ki blasts, ki balls and signature attacks) to go and hit what you want. What really makes this new point of view annoying is when playing a 1P vs 2P match, it couldln't be anymore tedious when the screen splits in half and that doesn´t allow you to see the whole stage you fighting in, but helpful when you need to retreat or attack from a distance because one of the players will not be able to see where in the screen the other one has gone; kind of blows because without that extra manuvering tha fight gets kind of 2D and closed quarter the whole match. The fun fact of the fighting is that the player should be able to use every part of the environment around them (the sky and the ground) to pull off fast movements like attacking / defending from close and long range; but it's only really apreciated in single player or 1P vs COM gameplay modes.

Overall this is a good game for fans of DBZ, but fighting game fans should approach it with caution.

A DBZ must have!!

Up until now... the only kind of DBZ games I liked was the SNES Super Butoden series from the Cell and Buu sagas. I tried the PS1 DBGT game and it was miserable... then some more games came but all were just a disppointment. But a friend introduced me to a copy of DBZ: Budokai 3... and my perpective on the whole DBZ game universe has changed.

Not only is the game faithful to the Dragon Ball Z universe but it´s actually fun to play. The gameplay is pretty innovative, fun and easy to follow and control. The action sequences between regular fist / kick combat is well done and the Ki based action is just astonoshing; they even got right the whole signature moves of the not so popular characters.

Then when you get to the major Ki based attack (Big Bang, Kamehame Ha!, etc) to over power your oponent... well they are just great when you manage to pull them off, since it applies a simple yet entertaining rock, paper, scissor type of toggle game to make it fair for any of the two characters to block, dodge or return the attack.

Regarding the characters, well their are a bunch and most of the Dragon Ball universe main ones are available. Also some secret character might appear here and there... and you´ll be able to play them. The best part is the almost Anime like level up or transformation flow that some of the characters in the game can do in mid battle (SSJ stages, Picorro fusions, Frieza level ups, etc). With every character transformation you are able to change your moves list almost completely to those that the character's level up adquires with the increase of power... making some moves unique to a particular transformation stage.

The only thing I would complain about is some tedious RPG/RTS like elements like Dragon Ball search, plus after you beat the game their isn´t that much to go back to again and again on the single player mode...just maybe to get some extras like capsules, hidden characters or Zeni currency but really it's not worth it since most items can be baught from the in-game store and after your first 2-3 times through the game you will have more then enough currency for all type of purchases, and most if not all of the characters in the game available. But the fun part is to play with a friend in VS mode.

Oh yeah! and the english voice acting is awful.

So in the long run, if you like 3D fighting games then you could buy it, if you're not the anime based fan then rent it. Now, If you are a DBZ or Anime fan with a knack for fighting games... then don´t waste your time just sitting there and go get a copy as in Right Now!

I really enjoyed the Bount arc. It didn't start so great, but it did become really interesting. But it ended pathetically. The second filler, WTF was with introducing it right in the middle of the main plot?!? What were they thinking? Now everyone's suddenly alive and well again! Gah...
