Video Game Cool Dudes (and Ladies)

by TechnoSyndrome

Just a list of kick-ass video game protagonists I like. Special shout-out goes to Sam from Vanquish, who I thought about adding but really I just think his SUIT is cool.

Captain Falcon

1. Captain Falcon

Falcon pretty much tops this list only because I've mained him in Smash for over a decade. I really like his dumb macho comic book aesthetic, his over the top flare in the Smash Bros games, and his doofy racing superhero character in F-Zero GX, the GBA games and the anime. I hope to see him return to the forefront on the Wii U some day.

Samus Aran

2. Samus Aran

There was a point in time where I would have told you Samus Aran was my favorite video game character. This ended in 2010 with the release of a game I probably don't have to name. The original female video game badass is still one of my favorite characters, but I can't ignore what her character actually "is" in Nintendo's eyes.

Kazuma Kiryu

3. Kazuma Kiryu

The ex-gangster with a heart of gold who keeps getting dragged back in. What else is there to say, really?

Dante

4. Dante

The wise-cracking, over the top anime nonsense that bombards your senses whenever Dante is on screen in DMC3 and 4 I find immensely enjoyable. Though he's kind of a dick in 3, I really like just how much Dante himself seems to enjoy the situations he ends up in.

Frank West

5. Frank West

Frank West is an out of shape, out of his element photojournalist, and that's why I like him so much. He's just a regular ass dude who rises to the occasion when faced with an extraordinary predicament.

Bayonetta

6. Bayonetta

My appreciation of Bayonetta is kind of a combination of my appreciations of Dante and Samus. A take charge female badass who just has fun with the constant divine events she ends up tangled in. Not enough games let you beat people up as kickin' rad ladies.

Big Boss

7. Big Boss

Big Boss is on this list over Solid Snake because he's always felt more like an actual character to me. An incredible soldier, but kind of a doofus when you get into the optional radio calls. I find the motivations behind Big Boss fascinating, and some of the stupid shit that comes out of his mouth hilarious. CQC is rad.

Wei Shen

8. Wei Shen

Wei Shen's struggle between his cover as a triad and his actual job as a police officer makes for a great story, but the combination of his dialogue and voice actor really go to make him a memorable character. Also he can break a dude's knee like nobody's business.

Leon S. Kennedy

9. Leon S. Kennedy

Leon's just chill as hell. I wish I could say super corny shit and still come off as incredibly cool. *Sigh*
