Hyper Combo Chain Multiplier! Quest Stats

Hey everyone. Boy, things sure have changed a little since the last time we did one of these, haven't they? I'd love to be able to say I have the power to see forever in the Giant Bomb universe, but in reality, I just have a few more tools to help out around the site. I've also gained access to another quest set, and believe me when I say it requires legitimate effort to complete.

I'm sure you don't care about any of that, though, which is more than fair. You want to see how this community quest, centered around a blindingly fast and crazy fighting game, is performing. I may have an answer or two for you. I know you want the 1,000 bonus XP. I sure want it! I'm almost level 34.

Here's the final graph:

Hyper Combo Chain Multiplier! Final Progress
The yellow line is the 4,000 user target, the red line was the average pace we needed to exceed to succeed, and the green line was our progress over time. You probably already knew that, though.

We failed in crushing fashion! What a shame. At least we knew we were going to fail pretty early on, though.

Some final stats:
  • We exhausted all 156.2 hours for this quest.
  • We gained 96 completions in the last 27 hours, for a grand total of 3,053 completions. That's 76.3% of our goal.
  • At the beginning of this quest, we needed to exceed an average pace of 25.61 completions per hour to succeed.
  • Over the entire quest, we averaged 19.5 completions per hour. As of our last data reading, our short-term pace was 1.9 completions per hour. As if you didn't realize just how short we fell of our goal.
  • Based on our overall average, we would need another 52 hours to successfully complete this quest. Based on the recent short-term rates, it'd be more like 252 hours. Ouch.
  • Here's our progress compared to older quests:
Quest Comparison as of Hyper Combo Chain Multiplier!
  • Yeah, this graph is getting really hard to read. Again. Still, it backs up what I've been saying this whole time, as our performance fell between Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh and Post Apocalyptic Vacation. Maybe I should do some sort of Power Quest board instead, where I rank our quest performances like that lap board on Top Gear or something. It would at least be easier to read, if not a little arbitrary.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or criticisms, I'd like to hear them. Just post them in this thread.

I'll be back the next time a community quest pops up, hopefully with a few more stats based on my prediction models and the like. Thanks for reading!

I'm glad the relatively inconsequential work of removing spambots and keeping the forums operating smoothly didn't distract from the far more crucial task of the regularly scheduled green line vs red line exgraphaganza. F'reals.

I guess you could make an air-combo type metaphor to tie in with the results. Like if the GB viewers can keep the combo going, they can beat the evil diagonal power of Akuma's zankuu red-ouken. Honestly, I'm as lost as you are with these games.

I'd ask what it's like when you complete all quests, but given that 6 Non Explosives Sploding hasn't been fixed...

Man, you put WAY too much effort into these...

Great work though!

Have been at work when the last handful were released, was rather happy when I saw this released while I was home :).

#125 I do believe.

If we lose, the spambots have won.  Do you really want them to win?

its at 2 thousand now and has been less than 24 hours. this is going to do well.

Graph and stats updated. I apologize for the delay, but there was no way I was going to be able to complete this last night at my usual time and remain competent for real-life stuff today. You'll probably see this trend for at least another day, as Forza Race Night will have me occupied during my usual update time.

As you can see on the graph, there's a sharp drop-off in the overnight hours after day two. This is not uncommon, but given that we're supposed to attain a 4,000 user goal and we're underperforming quests that narrowly succeeded or failed a 3,500 user goal...yeah, not the best sign, that. It's also worth noting how writing this update at a different time completely changes my predictions. Had I posted an update at the usual time last night, it's very likely that I would still be predicting narrow success. Is it bias as a result of slow overnight hours? Certainly, but I'm not sure it's a bad thing in our case. Realistically, we'll need to maintain a significantly steady pace from this point forward to succeed. That's not exactly a reasonable expectation, sadly, so a little drastic failure entering the prediction "models" seems about right.

I'll have another update for you around this time tomorrow.

EDIT: Graph and stats updated for February 25th. Updates will resume their typical 1 AM EST-ish pattern from here on out (save for the final day, which I'll try to stay up until 3 AM EST for).

I asked my Magic 8 Ball whether we'd finish this community quest and it said "Seriously? Fuck Off, Man", so that's probably a bad sign.

Finally got around to playing MvC3 tonight.  Lots of crazy fun!  Scared to take it online though.  Didn't exactly help finish this quest which I had already completed either...

If only spambots could contribute to community quests like this one.

I only need "A Marvelous Birth" but I have no idea.

Shit, we're not going to get there, are we?

Posted by Trace

Yep. We failed miserably. Final stats and graphs are in the first post.

Looking at the quest list, it would seem that the quest that gave the most people problems was "Dude. Come on." I have to say, I find that a little surprising, given that it's a one-step wiki scavenger quest. This might also be a sign of a general lack of interest in this specific set, as it's not that much rarer than the rest of the set. The most popular quest was "What're YOU Doing Here?", which doesn't surprise me at all. We know our one-group-against-another-group games, it seems.

Anyways, here's hoping we do better in the next community quest. I'll have more stats for you then.

It also helps that that game got a review, which kinda boosts the notoriety.

Barely topped 3K.  Ouch.

That one wasn't obvious for me so I'm not totally surprised there.  I knew sort of what they were looking for, but the couple terms I tried were not correct.  After reading a hint in the quest thread it did click.  I guess I'm just not much of a fighter gamer and don't know my jargon...

Noo, I need the sweet sweet nourishment that only quest bonus XP can bring!

I made two obvious hints. Everybody gave up on juggling dat shit.
