It should be noted that this list will constantly be changing for a while until I edit this and say otherwise.

It should also be noted that this list is not in order. Once I have my final list, I'll order them accordingly.

List items

  • Epic. There's retardedly epic (God of War), and then there's the epic that makes you feel like shit from the start (Mega Man when you think about it). Shadow of the Colossus is that sweet balance. You are nothing; you're a guy who's just trying to resurrect his female companion. You're sword, bow, and horse, against OH MY JESUS YOU STEPPED ON ME. The 13th boss sums it up. Awesome stuff. It seems like a simple story, and then it switches it up on you, and all of a sudden there's more to it. By the end, you learn about what's going on, and what you've been doing unknowingly, and...damn. You laugh, you cry, you yell, and then the final moments (those of you who've played it know), when the music plays, and you just feel something drop in your stomach. It just doesn't feel right. And then, depending on how you view it, it all kinda works out, and...fuck that was awesome!

  • I must admit: This was my first true taste of Mega Man, and it tasted like Chocolate. Absolutely delicious chocolate filled with LSD and time-travel icing. This game more than any made me want to go back in time, to a time when the ridonkulous reigned; when italian plumbers and blue robot boys knew how to defeat a great amount of evil within hours: many frustrating hours. But even with all this dated technology, I rarely had as much fun (as soon as I got on a roll with the bosses.) The music is most likely the culprit for engraving this most bodacious game in my head. It made me want to just start a Mega Man Tribute Band, and I'm sure I wouldn't be the first, either. Also, Mega Man and Roll...Rockman and Roll...Rock & Roll...bonus points.

  • Awesome voice acting, interesting art style, fun gameplay that made you feel badass right from the start. A good mind fuck or two also earned this game extra points from me. "Next time, use the middle stick to dodge." "...WHAT?!?"

  • I was originally going to put Rock Band on here because of the many hours I spent during sophomore year, but I'm gonna have to go with this. The soundtrack was great, introducing me to the amazing artists that I had not known before. It wasn't challenging, so I could pretend to be a rock star and enjoy the music, before it, well, you know. The art design of the entire game was superb as well, god dammit I loved this game!

  • What can I say? Insane shit goes down. Many people choose the train sequence as their favorite, but my favorite by far was the car chase scene, in which you had to leap from car to car. There was no button that led to an animation, or anything that made it simple. It relied solely on you to jump from car to car. It wasn't hard to do, but knowing that one fact made the experience so much better. Other than that, all around epicness, great characters, superb graphics made this game one to remember.

  • Although the original MGS deserves credit for reeling me into this confusing story, MGS4's stunning conclusion of Solid Snake's adventures was mind-blowing. The gameplay wasn't amazing, but as long as it was decent, that's all that MGS really needs. The story was what you went for, and had I not played the previous games, Snake would be nowhere near any of my top 10 lists.

  • I started with Blue, and that's what got me into Pokemon, but this is the game that finally got what I wanted: a starting Pokemon that I cared about. I struggled, as many others did I'm sure, to like the Pokemon that I encountered for the first half of the game. With Pikachu at my side, I was able to go through it all knowing that I had at least someone awesome at my side.

  • Cool art style, modelled after Power Rangers-like shows, and filled with tons of humor. And did I tell you that I love platformers?

  • A couple months ago, this game wouldn't have made the list. Then I finished. What helped push this game to the top was the nonstop gameplay. Instead of seeing a cutscene to seperate scenes, it's just one long thing. Awesome.

  • Do I really need to explain the unique fun, humor, and disorientation experienced in this appropriately short game?

  • The only game that can recreate reality, give me the ability to do whatever I want, and is so fun that driving on the highway and listening to the radio like every other Liberty City citizen is better than a few full length games. Quite a few, actually.

  • Yeah that's right. I went and did it. I added Prototype. I can run full speed up a skyscraper, glide to a helicopter, jump onto it, kill the pilots, take control of the helicopter, shoot down other helicopters, jump from heli to heli, bail as the heli blows up, land with no fall damage, disguise yourself as a soldier, walk out amongst soldiers who're looking for you, accuse some other soldier of being you, watch them get killed by their own side, then impale everyone within 100 feet around you in awesome slow motion. And that's only about half of what you can do. Gameplay-wise, to quote Penny Arcade's thoughts on Prototype, "WHAT MORE COULD YOU POSSIBLY WANT?!?"

  • This is the game that woke me up to a whole new world in gaming. Before this, I was playing Stunt Racer FX on the SNES and Blinx the Time Sweeper on the Xbox. Not only was it a fun game, for me it was an eye-opener. After this, I started to get more mainstream. By the time I got my Xbox 360, I had become a true hardcore gamer, and I might not have done it with out my beloved Halo.

  • I'm fairly confident that this was my first game. It came with one of the many NES bundles back in 1988. By the time I was born in 1991, the men of the family had become gamers. I remember playing quite a bit of Mario, along with other games like Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! and Ghostbusters 2. Duck Hunt only brings back one memory, but it was so funny, I'll always remember it. The bundle we got came with the light gun, but I never knew it existed. Either we broke it, or my parents hid it from me (when I was young, I watched a lot of Power Rangers and often tried some moves with other kids...basically I was beating kids, kicking teachers...it was bad). Because of this, I never understood Duck Hunt. I would frantically smash any button I saw until the dog came up and laughed at me, at which I would yell in frustration and put in a different game. This game sparked my never-dying interest in video games, and that alone earns a spot.

  • Dude, this game (SNES version) was fun. Mario was great and all, but I seriously think this game is why I love platformers so much. It was based on a movie I really enjoyed, and had lots of fun gameplay (especially the escape from the deadly lava.) I later found out that the SNES version was developed and published by Capcom, one of my favorite developers (possibly number 1) of all time. Tons of fun.

  • I watched a friend play the first Sly, but I never got it myself. Instead, the second had just been released, so I bought that instead. Not a bad decision. You were a small team trying to take down all these big bad dudes of crime. I looked the game up on wikipedia and it was classified as a "platformer, stealth", which is a very unique genre, in my opinion (and one I thoroughly enjoy." The combination of free-world, stealth, and platformer, combined with this cartoonish world full of cartoonish characters was interesting and fun. Who could ask for more?

  • I had Super Mario 64 for a short time, but I didn't get a chance to play all the way through. With this game, I was able to get another shot at that experience. The only thing about playing Super Mario Galaxy that bothered me didn't really have anything to do with the game; I'm just not a fan of the Wii's controller. Me and my love for platforming really blossomed as I played this. the Super Mario games are just random ass levels for you to platform through, and to tell you the truth, that's all I want. And they gave it to me. Can't wait to see where they go next after the Galaxy games.

  • UNDER REVIEW.

  • UNDER REVIEW. This represents both Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.

  • UNDER REVIEW.

  • UNDER REVIEW. I'm not even halfway through this game and...damn. It's Grand Theft Auto IV, except the people and society I hate is replaced with Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western. Hell yes.
