I can't imagine that statement will have any impact, people's minds are already made up and throwing the term Nazi is more common than hipster nowadays unfortunately.
I hope he's not getting too badly grilled from investors or whomever has induced this statement from him.
I was REALLY enjoying this series but this episode, oh my god the translation team are clearly taking some pretty horrible liberties with this for localisation and it's so incredibly grating.
Poor spelling, poor language "laterz" "do me a solid" just......... oh man.
This is really unfortunate. I particularly liked how 'normal' Drew is. His fasion sense, his hobbies, his taste in games, he really was a mystery to even be a gamer. It's nice to see someone clearly break the mold. As someone who is kind of sick of being a gamer (or am I just sick of being a slob?) I always found Drew a bit of an inspiration. He seemed a genuinely nice guy too.
Hrm, that'll teach me to rely on Internet hearsay. Judging by the murmuring I was hearing online, it sounded like Pewdiepie was outing himself as a Nazi. Between that and the accusations of Jontron being a NeoNazi Jew-hater, I've gotten rather... wary of the Internet finger-pointing.
Either that or very surprised at the number of Nazis doing popular YouTube streams suddenly being exposed over the past few months.
To quote a tweet I saw today and I thought was fan-fucking-tastic.
"What is more likely? That everyone you've ever respected are becoming white supremacist nazis one by one? Or that you've been misled?"
I haven't even listened to more than 15 minutes of the episode yet and I totally and utterly knew that when this topic came up in the news, this would be the angle of the case with the Beastcast...
EDIT:
I have now listened to the segment and I'd like to apologise, I can admit when I'm wrong.
Vinnie and Alex did harp on his apology not being sincere enough, I think it was, I don't think he's genuinely anti-semetic and he was the target of a hit piece, of course he's going to be pissed people took him out of context.
That being said, the rest of what Vinnie and Alex said was mostly factual and didn't leap to idiotic conclusions like MANY MANY (MANY!) of the stupid articles about this online.
I'll take my lumps and admit I'm wrong. Honestly, I think I'm still angry (!) about the Oculus / Palmer stunt Alex pulled, I assumed he pulled another one of those, before listening.
I was wrong - carry on.
I just wanted to chime in and say thank you for taking the time to do this. Not because you agree or don't agree, but it makes me so happy that you would take the time to process something, think about it, and come back to share your different opinion. I think it's something you rarely see on the internet as many will stand their ground even when the entire original argument has shifted. Yeah, I know this is coming off as super corny, but really, my sincere thanks.
I wish more people in general would do this, instead of "staying in their lane" and not thinking.
