Holy shit, depression quest. The rest of worth reading was great as always, but many of my friends and family deal with issues like this and it is so spot on... damn.

I have to go play Saints Row now.

@ildon: Ok, but if your average guy (like me) goes to the wiki page, under 'what users think' he sees a fat 3.53 and 3&1/2 gold stars. But if he goes to Dave's review page, under 'what users think' he sees 2.22 and two filled in stars. Shouldn't those look the same at a glance? Am I missing something?

Looking at the wiki for Metro 2033 and the Giant Bomb review of the same game, the user reviews don't match up at all, with an average of 2.22 on one and 3.53 on the other.

So I was listening to old GOTY podcasts and something stuck out. When discussing 'Best Story' there seemed to be a bit of a void. When discussing games like Bioshock, Red Dead, Skyrim and the like, there was always the grey area between the story that happens directly to your character, and the ambient or environmental storytelling. Say there is a bunch of graffiti and blood trails that clearly spell out a story that happened, but there is no audio log that spells out the story for you and you have obviously shown up well after the fact. The conversation would then bounce back and forth between whether that counted as 'story' or was just part of ambiance or world building.

So then, is there a place for that as a category? It's obviously important, and shows up both in open world games and more linear ones. Is there an appetite for a category along the lines of Best (or Most Detailed, or Richest etc.) Game World?

I first heard about this game on the Kingdom of Loathing podcast a few years ago. If you've ever hung around the more terrible corners of the internet then some of the parody of 4channers and the like is pretty funny.

It's worth noting here that the character class with the name causing such a kerfuffle here is, like all the other characters, a troll. It's not just a girl taking sexy pics, its a person posting them in completely innappropriate and unasked for places. Like forums for grandparents and car repair FAQ's. The same as the emo kid posting his awful poetry in those same places.

Whether we like it or not that's a very common term for that type of trolling, and the official name for the character class in the game.

Moving on, I feel like forumwarz really nailed the look feel and humor they were going for. Mechanics are pretty dull but it's worth looking at for a bit at least.

This shows the incredible love and sense of community present in the industry and media of video games. Thank you Patrick and Giant Bomb for helping make this happen, and also Molyneux and Molydeux as well.

Recently I've read about stores closing, THQ on the brink of collapse, and the ridiculous amounts of vitriol and ill will generated by the reactions to ME3's ending. Now here comes this story about how a string of silly jokes, at the personal expense of a game designer no less, can bring together thousands of people to contribute their time and energy to crank out hundreds of games. We needed this. The community and the industry are so much more and so much better than what we've been seeing and reading about here recently and there is no better way to have proven that. Thanks again guys.
