The Non-Weekly Blog: Week 0

Well, I guess I'm going to try blogging for some reason. This means that I am extremely bored on a Sunday night.

In this blog, I'll likely go through what I've been playing, what I've been doing when I'm not gaming, and possibly other things.

The Stanley Cup Finals are going on right now and I'm cheering for the only Canadian team that's been there in a while in Vancouver. As of now they are up 2-0 in the series, so I like that.

I'm also excited to have found out that the thestream.tv show, The Game Show, is going to be starting back up in a couple of weeks, giving me something else to watch if I have nothing to do on a Friday.

Looking forward to E3. I'm excited to see what the Bombhouse will bring. I'm excited to see what surprises happen. I'm hopeful for but pessimistic about some sort of Valve announcement. I'm interested to see the Project Café and how Nintendo will attempt to get back into hardcore gaming.

Witcher 2: Just got a new graphics card (ATI HD6870) so now it actually runs smoothly on my computer. I'm currently in the Kayran fight having completed all of the other quests in and around Flotsam and Lobinden to the best of my knowledge. I'm stuck on how to damage him in the second stage of the fight (the one where he starts throwing chunks of rock at you). The combat in this game is unforgiving, which is a good and bad thing. The good thing: it makes the world seem more realistic to see that this dude isn't the most godly thing of time, as well as it gives a reward in the form of satisfaction when you actually finish something. The bad thing: on occasion I just have no clue how I'm supposed to kill something (or more often a room of somethings) and it is frustrating. Also, there is no quicksave button on the XBOX 360 controller for PC, so I have often lost the progress made by winning a fight and have to go do it again (*cough* endrega queen *cough*).

Assassin's Creed: I just picked this game up last week on the Steam Ubisoft sale, along with AC2 and Brotherhood. I've heard all kinds of goot things about the franchise, so I decided to start playing them when I could get them all for cheap. In this one I've just started going through the cities for the second time. I'm striving for as close to full completion as possible (probably not the best idea when I have some sort of illusion of getting through all of the games) so I'm working on getting all of the investigation memory chunks. I'm currently stuck on one where I need to assassinate 2 guys without being seen that don't ever go into a secluded area. I'll probably just end up skipping this one in the short term however, as there are still other parts of this city to be uncovered.

GRID: Last year my roommate was hooked on this game and I had played it a bit but never really liked the keyboard controls. I went back to it last week and am loving it. I'll break the pattern here by saying that I'm not actually stuck on it right now and am flying through the rookie licences. My favourite race mode is Touge right now as they are different from the regular race styles, and the only ones really giving me a good challenge. I'm also currently being challenged by one of the open-wheeled races, but I'll get better at that once I get used to the track and figure out where I need my breaking points to be.

Duke Nukem Forever Demo: Is this going to be a great game? Probably not. Is it going to be good? Maybe. Was this demo ridiculous? Definitely. Will I end up buying this game? Likely unfortunately.

Beat Hazard: Wanted to see how hard "Jack Sparrow" by The Lonely Island is. Answer: it isn't. Also, wanted to see how long I could get into last Thursday's Fantasy Focus podcast (my favourite single episode of anything in a while). Answer: about 4:30. I was disappointed.
