Another day another game.

I am starting to think that I have problems with my attention span. I can't seem to play a game for more than a few days at most without getting bored with it. I don't know if it is because of the games or because of me.

I mean I played World of Warcraft (before quitting that of course) for a total of 365 days IN GAME TIME! So I would think that I wouldn't have a problem staying attentive for a new game but alas that is not the case.

So recently I have adjusted my YouTube content to something that I know I like to do. And that is highlights, basically I stream a game, do a highlight reel, go on to the next game.

Maybe I should stick to that since at the end of the day I need to do something I like and that will be reflected in my videos. And well... I do videos because I like to do them and why would I do videos I don't like doing?

Maybe video games aren't your hobby since you have a short attention span and get bored with them quickly. Try movies or something else instead.

@tireyo643: Actually those are what keep me focused the most I believe. Since I am actively doing something, my mind is set on the task at hand and either if it is a puzzle or a strategy needs solving it will make my mind completely focused on the task at hand.

The problem lies in when I put the game down I have little to no lust to go back to it.

I sometimes have that problem too.

I blame the games, though. A lot of current games just hold little to no interest for me.

To be fair, though, I have been not finishing games since the Genesis. It probably wasn't until Adventure games (and games like Duke Nukem 3D) that I actually finished a game on several occasions. I have found, though I only finish games I really really enjoy. It doesn't mean the games are bad if I don't finish them (or even good if I do finish them- I mean, hell I finished and loved The Thing [The game version] and Deadly Premonition to name a couple of games that are considered to be bad), only that they are going on too much for me or I have played my fill of a game. If that's to completion that's a plus, if its only over 20 hours, still a plus. So, I have learned it's just my play style sometimes.

This happens the most, for me, in open world games.

@cornbredx:

Someone actually said it, yeah especially in open world games I seem to be having that issue. I don't know but maybe it is because of the fact that it is a bit to open...

I am one of those guys that actually don't mind linear games (when done right of course). And I feel weird when people mention games being linear as if that is a bad thing in itself when I don't mind that one bit.

The fact that you only finish games you enjoy and not necessarily good games is a statement I would like to align myself too since games that are really good are not the same as games that I enjoy, games that I enjoy are truly subjective.

One way or another, maybe I am just an old man that never will get back into games the way that I played them. Games, games never change... They just... Ok games have changed a bunch!
