Thanks to Everyone for Their Suggestions + Install Success

Regarding the sale at Good Old Games, I concentrated on the sale since it was about to expire, plus grabbing one extra (about 22 bucks, all told):

I tried installing MDK on this PC but it didn't work out. Apparently MDK in this version is optimized for a resolution that wasn't readily available at the time MDK even came out, and as our monitor is a basic replacement monitor it can't hack it. Be aware that since GOG's games not only run on XP/Vista but are also treated like modern games as far as some installation requirements, you may get left behind even though you think you're going full retro with the titles. A bit disappointing, but we have a laptop which is better for gaming than this space hulk is, so I haven't given up hope yet. Will likely work on that one, but I'll let you know when I get around to installing it.
I tried to transport the game to my other machine, and it had this weird thing where it told me it was going to get rid of an identifier on the executable. At first I thought this was going to damage the file, some sort of copy protection I wasn't aware of, but it turned out that it didn't affect installation at all. I took MDK to my more game-friendly platform, and in a few minutes, I was laughing at that game's insanity. So, happy ending.
