Wii's Buried Gems

To put it simply: this is a list of Wii games that received good ratings (either by critics or users) but haven't sold that great.

List items

  • An excellent remake of a playstation 2.5d platformer with really good graphics and good control. The game is a little on the easy side (though it does come with some tough challenges at the end) and it is fairly short, but with such solid gameplay, you might want to play this more than once.

  • A puzzle-platformer based off an old NES game with the same name. You control the boy who feeds jelly-beans to a transforming blob in order to overcome obstacles. A very beautiful 2D game that starts off easy, but does come with a fair share of challenging levels.

  • A spectacular fast and fun fighting game by Capcom. Sure, the roster may not be as familiar as MvC and giants can make fights really annoying or boring, but what's here is solid.

  • Part of the Anno series, Dawn of Discovery is a game overlooked by many gamers because of the PC version's more in depth gameplay and intense graphics. But to be fair, the Wii version is completely different. With a clean cartoon aesthetic, refined Wii controls and addicting gameplay that will last for hours upon hours, this is probably the best civ simulation/rts game on any console.

  • Fast and furious, this sequel to Excite Truck brings back almost everything awesome about the first and boosts it to the Nth degree. Races are not purely determined by speed, but by skill and strategy as you must earn stars through tricks and mini-games to gain your final ranking. Oh and it also has a fun online mode that ups the replayability.

  • While it may have some strange design choices, the end result is something greater than the sum of its parts. It may not be the silent hill you're used to, but it'll be worth a trip.

  • Rune Factory Frontier is the first console Rune Factory. The environments are beautiful and the gameplay is tried and true. Mixing farming, fantasy life and dungeon crawling, Frontier is a very blended game, offering lots to do. You can fight, tame monsters, grow/sell crops, cook, participate in festivals, upgrade all your tools and weapons and fall in love/get married.

  • A 2d side scroller with beautiful art. Combat is a bit simple and the level design is basic, but the boss battles can be quite awesome.

  • Treasure is known for making fast and furious shooters and S&P2 is no exception. Blow up hundreds of foes, tackle dozens of bosses and enjoy one of the most finely-crafted shooting experiences in recent history.

  • Trauma Team injects some life into the Trauma series by changing the formula up a bit. The game is much easier than normal, however Trauma Team also offers many new gameplay modes to freshen the experience.

  • A pikmin-styled game where you take the role of a king in his conquest of the land. Don't be fooled by its cutesy presentation. It's actually quite mature in nature...and even has some adult themes. The controls aren't that great, but they work.

  • A JRPG that is part dating sim and part strategy mech sim.

The PS2 version is much more popular, but hey, this is the same game...and cheaper.

  • A puzzle adventure with nice cell shaded graphics. Overall it might not be perfect, but it is fun if you can get used to the controls.

  • A platformer with a very unique control scheme. Instead of controlling the character, you build vines around it, bouncing it around and building bridges.

  • A retro arcade style game where you just shoot stuff and aim for a high score. Simple and addictive with much more content than the original.

  • Chilling and atmospheric, Deadly Creatures is a fairly unique game where you take the role of a spider and scorpion, and follow the mysteries of the desert. Mostly a combat-centric game, you'll have a good time pummeling bugs and tearing them apart with crazy combos and insane finishers that only mother nature can provide.

  • Order Up! is a good cooking game, mixing a bit of cooking mama and diner dash to form a fun and easy experience. You manage a restaurant and try to handle orders, buy spices and recruit assistants. Though overall short and simple, if you've ever had any desire to play a cooking game...this might just scratch the itch.

  • Though more of a kid's game, Spectrobes is still a decent action-rpg. Combining the action of Kingdom Hearts with the collective nature of Pokemon, Origins has some desirable traits. Its downside is its simplicity. The story is really basic and the action is easy. Boss fights can be tough though.

  • People may have complained about the change in controls from the first game, but with a simple and easy unlock, all those problems can go away and the player will be treated with a lot of marble-rolling goodness.

  • Ruined by a poor localization effort, ARF is actually a really solid J-RPG. If you can't stand the voices, just turn them off and enjoy.

  • A few flaws bog down the experience. But if the concept of being alone in the world entices you, it wouldn't hurt to give it a go.

  • Red Steel 2 is a great use of Wii Motion , but perhaps due to Red Steel one's bad reputation, people have ignored it.

  • On rails shooter that is the prequel to dead space. Yeah, nobody really asked for it, but they gave it and what's here is pretty good, albeit not very replayable.

  • Ever heard of Disgaea? Well it's the same creators. It is also a ps2 port that's been enhanced. Sold dismal numbers, but still a really good game.

  • Ninjas!
