I was joining friends to play the Red Orchestra mod Darkest Hour. Red Orchestra being a FPS game for the PC set in ww2 set on the russian front and the game leans heavy on simulation.
So no cross hairs, no pin point accuracy and all that jazz.
I had played RO and Darkest hour (set on the western front, American British and Germans.) many hours since 2005. However i always recognized I wasn't very good a killing anyone or surviving for that matter.
This session was...different. i hadnt played in a few months. When I stopped things were normal. I shoot didnt kill and bayoneting people were my best option.
I was shot in the legs force to drop to the ground. I span round aimed and shot, killed the guy shooting me. I then proceeded to survive a kill a few people, without much effort or thinking. My ability had jumped. played for several more hours and it was like RO DH had became a whole new game.
I then thaught back to when It was like to first play FPS on PC.
In 2001 I got a computer, not long I was playing FPS. Such as Team fortress and Counter Strike. I couldnt shoot or kill a single thing ever. Years pass and I give Counter strike and FPS another go. After playing so much on consoles (Halo and the likes) This time I performed better, It felt completely different. Years go by more and come back to counter strike 1.6. I am making head shots very well not perfect (and when people shoot you before you are round the corner!)
I am not realy a counter strike fan. i play if every so often, so I do not dedicate myself to it. However It rewards accuracy as the only way to play.
However the player I am today is vastly different from in the past.
With this sudden new boost in ability. I think back what games did i play that could have breed this into me.
I had recently played alot of Red orchestra 2...that could have done it similar mechanics. Day z? Did that train me. Max payne 3 on xbox....did that fine tune me?
All i know it its a giant leap for me considering how inept I felt at RO.
Sames goes for playing Vanilla Mount and Blade multiplayer. It could be because of the amount of time playing Napoleon wars DLC?
