And I've made it. 24 hours of playing video games. Now I'm super tired, and gonna crash on the couch/bed next to my PC. This was very fun.

I am now on Fighting game streak (Now Playing: VF5)

Two things have convinced me to pick up the recent fighting games that I've missed.

1: Mugen. The thing is a bit of a pain to set up, but it is fun playing with custom characters (but it is hard to find the right ones you want).
2: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 rerelease on PSN and XBLA. Loved this game back when it came out, and I can't wait. It just sucks that I don't have a 360, so I have to wait for the PSN release date. Still pumped though.

So, yeah, after toying around with Mugen and waiting for MvC2, I went and filled my GameflyQ with fighting games that were both good based on reception (from fans of the genre, 'cause apparently the majority of Gamefly users aren't big on the games) and that I might enjoy them. It, basically goes like this

1. Virtua Fighter 5
2. Street Fighter IV
3. Soul Calibur 2
4. BlazBlue Calamity Trigger
5. King of Fighters XII
6. Tekken 6
7. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Ultimate All Stars

I know those last three aren't out yet, but I got them on there anyway.

Anyway, that first game on the top of my Q, I just got it today.

Very fun, although I don't get why exactly I can't use an Analog stick and am forced to use the D-Pad (hard to do quarter circles or half circles for me personally), but, eh, I deal with it. I'm just having fun playing around with Eileen. I haven't really touched on the rest of the characters a whole lot, but I guess I don't need to. I'm more for the faster characters, which encourages me to string together some neat combos, and I didn't have a ton of trouble getting used to her. Training really does help.

I did well in the Arcade mode, beat everyone except, well, Dural. I should've seen it coming, the whole "super powerful near impossible to beat character that promptly gives your ass a major beating." Yeah...So close though (but then again, I had the difficulty on very easy).

But I made it to 4th dan in Quest mode. Even had two close tournament matches with some higher ranked fighters (one went on for a whole 9 rounds. Yeah, wins for each round were exchanged left and right. I won in the end though).

That's all for right now. Next blog I'll probably have Street Fighter IV by then.

Nice Blog, man.

I really like Virtual Fighter myself... very technical.  Fighting Games in general are just ZOMGWTFPWN!!! :)

Not a fan of MUGEN myself, but it's great that your getting into the genre.  If you are going to be playing a lot more of them, perhaps you need to consider getting a Joytick if you don't have one already. It will surely enhance your fun with such games, even if it may not be essential.

If you're gonna start playing all of these fighting games, I suggest picking up an arcade stick or two... It definitely gives some more fidelity to the controls, and they were originally meant to be played that way, in the arcades...

Plus, I'm not sure for PS3 sticks, but I know a lot of 360 sticks can be used with your computer, since they're USB.
I'm guessing the PS3 ones could do the same, since they're also USB, but don't quote me on that...

Anyways, point is, If you get a nice USB acade stick now, then you can keep using it for your PC later on.
I still need to pick up one myself.

Also, after playing through a lot of VF5, I must say... it's a pretty damn fun game, but it's very different from the standard Virtua Fighter formula.  That might be a good thing, since that formula is getting kinda old, but I still enjoy Virtua Fighter 2 more. Meh, maybe it's just the nostalgia...

Like others have said, you should probably get an arcade stick if you're going to be playing many fighting games.  I used to play MUGEN but the balance of downloaded characters is messed up and it got pretty old pretty fast.

I too picked up VF5 the other day and have been playing, it's kinda fun and relaxing, but I can't find any of this technical focus people keep talking about, it's pretty simple and doesn't offer a lot of room for strategy, sure you can counter throw and etc, but there's just not enough to keep me here over something that offers a huge amount of depth like Street Fighter or Soul Calibur.

I would advise an arcade stick as well.

Trust us when we say that there's a lot of depth to VF5.  You just can't see it because Sega didn't include that great tutorial from VF4 Evo, so you're left to figure things out for yourself.

@King9999:

I'm pretty capable at 'figuring' and have researched a fair amount, i'm just confident that from my viewpoint, there isn't enough depth to keep me playing.

I only recently picked up VF4 evolution and it is still awesome.

The gameplay in VF5 was good but I just couldn't get into any characters; they all bored me. The only thing that stood out was Kage who could do the ridiculous flying headbutt on a downed opponent.

Then again maybe I just can't get into 3d fighters in general.

That's a shame, you are missing out a lot.

@Godwind: ahaha, I actually saw that on youtube a couple years ago. I forget who or what linked me to it, it definitely wasn't me searching for it on my own nope.

@Godwind: Poor guy didn't even mean to do it.

Well, I don't own a 360, so, getting PS3 controllers are a bit tougher to get working on a computer (Syncing my Sixaxis was a bit tougher than my Guitar Hero controller). Atleast the drivers didn't cost anything, even if I had to look for them.

But I will get an arcade stick sometime soon. Already am looking for good deals.

VF5 is a great game to play with friends.  Its definetly one of the best and underrated fighters on the xbox 360 & PS3.  This is one game Sega hasn't messed up.

It isn't underrated, it just isn't popular.  Huge difference.

Its critically rated correctly but to the normal fan its underrated which equals not popular, which is the same out come. Same out come  :P
