The Secret World Crafting Overview

The Secret World may be breaking many MMORPG conventions and with it eschewing traditional character classes and levels. Despite that, it still has one particular mechanic that veteran role-players should be familiar with: crafting. Like many games in the genre, you can put your own items together from resources you come across during your travels. The similarities end there, for the game introduces a brand new way for players to create their own gear. This Secret World guide to crafting will explain briefly how it works.

The Secret World crafting system has no recipes to find or affiliated skills to level up. The process is very different; crafting takes place on a grid composed of three rows and four columns. Making the item of your choice is as simple as laying the correct materials down onto the grid into the correct shape. If you want to make a shotgun, then you form a shotgun shape on the grid. If you want to make a glyph, you arrange everything into a diamond shape, and so on. Items that can be crafted include all manner of weapons, talismans and potions.

There are two kinds of resources that are required in the art of crafting. The first are basic materials, which can include all manner of mundane objects like metal. These are the basic building blocks for crafting and are needed in the correct quantities to give items their shape. The second are tools, which include things like weapon and potion kits. They usually determine the statistics of the item in question, such as how much damage a gun can do, or what kind of benefits a potion will produce.

Making your own weapons from scratch is all well and good, but what if you want to try improving what you already have? That's also possible, and it's so easy, you practically won't need the Secret World guide to show you. One way to upgrade a weapon is to simply improve the quality of its materials; you can break apart any item you come across, take its base components, and replace them with better ones. Furthermore, you can add special properties, such as additional fire damage or armor-piercing capabilities, simply by attaching glyphs to them.

Overall, crafting in the Secret World is a flexible experience that allows you to make any kind of item you want. You don't need to simply find something that suits your play style; you just need to make it!

The Secret World Flame Away Mission Guide

Flame Away is a side mission you’ll find in Kingsmouth Town while exploring the area. The starting location is actually a table where you’ll find a flame thrower sitting disassembled. This is a very simple, fast mission to play through and worth doing for the XP and some Pax Romana. Below you’ll find our full walkthrough of Flame Away broken down into each tier.

Tier 1

As mentioned, you’ll discover a disassembled flamethrower lying on a table in a somewhat random camp area of Kingsmouth Town. You’ll find the character, Danny standing near the table. The flamethrower will be highlighted in yellow for you. If you have trouble finding it simply take a walk around the area near the coordinates of 420, 660 and you’ll eventually happen upon it. To get the quest going you’ll need to pick up the flamethrower.

Take the Flamethrower to Edgar’s Scrapyard

First step is pretty self explanatory. Grab the half-finished flamethrower and head on over to the scrapyard where you’ll find Edgar.

Tier 2

Search Garbage Bins for a Hose

Once you get over to the scrapyard start inspecting every trash can you can find in the area. There is not one specific can that has the hose so you just have to keep looking until you happen upon it. After you’ve collected the hose you need to find and pick up a gas can. Once you do this you’ll get Burn It Down which is basically just gas for the flamethrower. If you walk around just a bit you’ll find a couple gas cans lying on the ground near where Edgar is.

Tier 3

Test the Flamethrower

This is pretty easy, too. And fun. All you have to do is equip the flamethrower to one of your weapon slots and then go into your inventory and right click on the gas can labeled Burn It Down. Upon doing so your character will start shooting flames all over the place with the flamethrower to test it out. Once you’ve gotten your cheap thrills out of playing with the weapon simply walk to Edgar and let him see the flamethrower. And that’s all there is to the TSW Flame Away side mission.

Rewards include around 25,840 XP, 2500 Pax Romana and 1 token. May not seem like a lot but it’s a fair reward for just tinkering with a pretty interesting weapon / toy. This mission pays out well considering it only takes a few short minutes to complete. So don’t complain. Just go with it.

If you want to view other walkthroughs for other missions including faction based, story line or zone missions be sure to check out our full TSW guide database where we regularly add new guides for all quests in The Secret World.

The Secret World Men in Black Vans Mission Guide

Men in Black Vans is a investigation type mission that you’ll get in The Secret World while playing in Kingsmouth Town. It’s given by Danny Dufresne in the skate park. This is a fairly simple mission with only 4 tiers but there are quite a few little, important steps that some people have been confused about. Below is our full walkthrough for Men in Black Vans of all tiers.

Tier 1

Investigate the Black Van

The first step of this mission is actually finding the black van. It’s located just off the road where your map marker is pointing to. The only thing you have to do during this tier is actually find and walk up to the van. Head to the back of the van and you’ll get the next mission update.

Tier 2

Log In to the Laptop

The laptop is located in the back of the black van. It’s sitting out in the open in the middle of the trunk area and is highlighted in yellow for you. When targeting it you’ll see that it’s labeled “black laptop” on your screen. When you access the laptop you’ll be presented with nothing more than a short line saying “My Wife”.

“My Wife” happens to be the password hint for logging into the laptop. To figure out what it is you’ll need to examine the 2 dead Orochi agents in the area. One of the names is Kitsune Hayabusa. If you search this name on Google it’ll pop up with a result on the Orochi Group website (Orochi-Group.net). In a short blurb by Hayabusa he mentions that his wife’s name is Sally. Head back to the laptop and enter this as the passcode to gain access.

Tier 3

Use the Tracking Device

After you’ve gotten the assembly and disassemble sequences from the data on the laptop you’ll want to grab the item located right next to the laptop. It’s labeled as the Beckon Tracker. Once you pick it up immediately go into your inventory and click on it. This will turn it on and start walking around. This works like a hot or cold finding system. The closer you get to where you need to be the smaller and more bunched the radar rings get.

Where you need to be is the the location of an object called the Occult Attractor. If you have trouble finding it, it’s located in the proximity of the coordinates 559, 849 on your map. Go there now and you’ll advance to the final tier of the Men in Black Vans mission.

Tier 4

Deactivate the Attractor

This is where the assembly and disassemble sequences that you got from the laptop in the back of the van come into play. You’ll need to follow them. Doing it the first time around with the sequence given by the laptop (Engage PK Pulse Unit, Affix Manifest Agitator to PK, Affix Etheric Transponder Anntenna to Agitator, Powerup) will fail. It’s NOT the right order.

The correct order (sequence) to deactivate the attractor is to follow the instructions backwards. Doing the instructions in reverse deactivates the device and completes the entire mission for you. And that’s all there is to the TSW Men in Black Vans quest.

Rewards for this mission include 17,500 Pax Romana and 4 tokens along with 241,250 experience points.

The Secret World - The Big Terrible Picture Mission Guide

The Big Terrible Picture is an investigation style mission of The Secret World found in the Scorched Desert. It’s a quest given by Montgomery, a member of the Oxford team that has been excavating the area for clues about the past. This is a rather interesting mission and is rather lengthy, too, with a hearty 6 tiers to play through. Below you’ll find out full walkthrough of The Big Terrible Picture for all tiers.

Tier 1

Once you begin this mission you’ll be presented with this information:

Montgomery had been taking notes throughout the excavation, but his research was interrupted by the dangers of the desert. Follow up on his work and dig deeper into the mystery of this ancient site.

Examine Montgomery’s Map / Examine Montgomery’s Notes

If you walk around the tent of the excavation camp you’ll find a small table. On it there are a map and some notes. Examine these objects for more information. Montgomery’s map has 3 locations listed on it: Ritual 1, Ritual 2 and Ritual 3. Then the notes read:

Ruins to the northwest of particular interest – research curtailed by this beastly latter-day Atenist cult. Forced to abandon notes and translations. Trust these have remained for Oxford eyes only thanks to simple cipher. In the event of my and Dr Singh’s absence – a rudimentary knowledge of Roman history should put key to lock.

After reading both objects you’ll progress to the next tier of the mission.http://fycgaming.net/tsw-the-big-terrible-picture-mission-walkthrough/

Tier 2

Find and Decipher Montgomery’s Research Notes

Once you’re at the ruins you’ll find Montgomery’s ritual notes lying on the ground near one of the large pillars next to the short pillar with fire on top. Examine them and you’ll read what looks like absolute gibberish:

cngu bs gurfha-eryngrf abg whfg gb gurfbyne obql, ohg gur geniry bs gur uhzna obql-ovegu gb orlbaq rvtug synzrf-rvtug fgngvbaf ba gur cngu bs yvsr? nygubhtu gur beqre vf abg jung frrzrq vavgvnyyl boivbhf

Your task is to translate these notes into readable English. Fun stuff, right? This is pretty tricky and time consuming unless you’re an absolute nerd and have been cracking ciphers on the side for years. The cipher is a Roman cipher which is a system of shifting letters x amount of spaces over from their original location in the alphabet. As mentioned, time consuming. Here’s what the ritual notes cipher reads when translated:

path of the sun relates not just to the solar body, but the travel of the human body birth to beyond
eight flames eight stations on the path of life although the order is not what seemed initially obvious

Gotta love the riddles that Funcom throws into the missions. But basically you have to click on the braziers in a specific order (sequence) based on their meanings. To save time here is the correct sequence:

  • Birth
  • Infancy
  • Adulthood
  • Old Age
  • Childhood
  • Immortality
  • Death

Facing toward the stairs the 2 closest braziers to the stairs are Infancy (left of the stairs) and Birth (right of the stairs). Behind Birth are Childhood and Adulthood. Behind Infancy are Immortality and Old Age. Final is Death. Once you click on each brazier in the right order the mission will update saying this:

Inspect Where the Beams are Pointing

Once you reach the location that the blue light beams off the braziers are pointing to you’ll get another update asking you to “Collect the Metallic Scarab”. Jump up onto the platform and make your way down the path until you find the scarab. Grab it and you’ll move on to the next tier of The Big Terrible Picture.

Tier 3

Perform the Ritual of Days

Now you’ll have to examine another set of notes, the ones sitting at the top of the stairs. Reading these presents you with yet another cipher reading:

EVGHNY BS QNLF

GUR PBZVAT SBEGU OL QNL
N SBPHFVAT BS YVTUG HCBA QNEXARFF
GUR CEVRFGUBBQ BS NZHA QEVIRA
HAQRETEBHAQ OL NGRAVFGF
RANPGF GURFR EVGHNYF VA FRPERG
JUL URER?

You don’t have to decode this one but when it’s translated back into normal English it reads as follows:

Ritual of Days. The coming forth by day a focusing light upon darkness. The priesthood of Amun driven underground by Atenists enacts these rituals in secret. Why here?

Once you’ve read this you’ll be given a puzzle. It’s a light refraction one. To make quick work of The Big Terrible Picture puzzle here is the answer for it… move the gems around to make the light bounce around and hit the eye on the wall. Once you get it done you’ll see the passageway open up for you so that you can go inside and grab the metallic ankh.

Tier 4

Ritual of Lineage

Here you’ll have to examine Montgomery’s ritual notes which are posted on a wall full of hieroglyphics. Upon reading them you’ll get yet another cipher set. This one reads like this when decoded:

ritual of lineage -a prayer before royalty? crude depictians of akhenaten-these were not made to honour him

consider the names-akhenaten’s name erased after death – but that was not his truename a prayer to truth

For this tier you need to do the /pray command in front of the statues in the correct order to progress. If you want to try and figure this out yourself you’ll have to go by the hieroglyphics and translate them using a guide. Ahieroglyphic chart on Wikipedia can help with this particular part. If, however, you want the solution you have to pray in front of each statue according to its true name (refer to wikipedia chart). The right order is found on the right side of the tomb. Go inside and grab the metallic eye.

Tier 5

Place the Metallic Objects on the Aperture

This is pretty self explanatory. Put the metallic scarab, metallic ankh and metallic eye on the aperture. Upon doing so a hologram like image will appear. That’s it for this tier of The Big Terrible Picture.

Tier 6

Return to Montgomery

Head back to Montgomery. When you do you’ll get a cut scene. After that run inside to Montgomery’s tent and check out his notes to complete the mission and claim your rewards. Rewards include a huge amount of XP (over 900k), 22500 Pax Romana and 4 tokens.

Horror Show Mission Guide for The Secret World

Horror Show is an action type mission that you receive in The Secret World from Helen Bannerman who is found within the police station in Kingsmouth around the coordinates 187, 319. This quest isn’t too complicated but does have a few confusing parts to it. Below you’ll find our full walkthrough of this TSW mission. Keep in mind that this guide does include spoilers.

Horror Show Walkthrough

Basically once you’ve gotten through the cut-scene with Bannerman you’ll learn about a bunch of surveillance cameras that are setup around the town of Kingsmouth. They aren’t operational yet, however. That’s where you come in. You have to locate each camera and activate it to complete this mission. Some are rather easy, others are hidden well or hard to reach.

Tier 1

Check a phonebook for secured businesses.

To get a list of the locations of the cameras stop over by the soda machine in the police station and inspect the phonebook that is nearby. This will update your map with markers of where each camera should be. This is helpful but doesn’t completely solve the problem of getting to each one. There are a total of 3 which are located in these areas:

  • Sycoil Gas Station
  • Mining Museum
  • Kingsmouth Savings and Loans

Let’s talk about each one in detail.http://fycgaming.net/tsw-horror-show-mission-walkthrough/

Tier 2

Sycoil Gas Station Camera

This one is on the outside of the building on the corner. To reach it you’ll need to perform some parkour moves from dumpster to dumpster till you’re within reach of it. Mind yourself when jumping all around though, it is possible to get stuck in small crevices which you’ll have to completely restart to get out of.

Tier 3

Kingsmouth Savings and Loans Camera

This one is very simple. Just head down the main road and keep an eye on the houses on the left. On one you’ll see the camera just to the left of the home’s door. Quick and simple to get.

Tier 4

Mining Museum

The camera at the museum is in plain sight from the front of the building. It’s tricky to get to, though. Head to the back of the building and you’ll see a normal house nearby. Go over to the backside of this house. Here you’ll notice there’s a ladder leading to the roof of the home (it’ll be highlighted red for you). Climb it and get on the roof. From here you’ll have to jump across to the roof of the museum.

There’s something a bit more to this one, though. Once you pick up the camera you’ll immediately get a note thrown in your face on-screen. It’s from the janitor, James Morris. The note reads:

Josiah,

This is the one that needs changing. Have it done before I’m back from Bangor. New cameras are in the basement. Remember to fill out the repair form and file it with the museum admins.

James Morris

This note gives you a clue as to what you need to do next.

Tier 5

Enter the basement of the mining museum. Once inside you’ll head down a hall until you come across a guy kneeling on the ground. Here you’ll be taken to a cut scene. He says you need to go away because he isn’t feeling stable then jets down the right hallway. Be careful going into the rooms and halls. Get caught by a spotlight or camera and you’ll immediately be blown to pieces.

Make your way past the cameras to reach the buttons to deactivate all the other defense systems like the lasers. There are a few sets of cameras and lasers to get through and deactivate. Then once you’ve done all that you’ll have to fight and kill the janitor then pick up the box of new cameras.

Tier 6

Now you’ll have to take the new cameras and position them in certain areas. There are 4 alarm stations you’ll need to setup cameras at. Don’t worry, they’re all pretty simple to do. The locations are:

  • Station Alarm 1 – Place the camera on the back porch of the police station.
  • Station Alarm 2 – Place the camera on the pole in the middle of white guys near the white truck close to the police station.
  • Station Alarm 3 – Place the camera at the base of the tree.
  • Station Alarm 4 – Place the camera on the light pole located out the front of the police station.

The last thing you have to do is actually activate all the cameras. Simple enough… just head into the station, access the computer and use it to get the cameras online. The PC tells you exactly how to do this. And that’s it for the Horror Show mission.

I love Star Wars the Old Republic

Yes, I'm a gaming nerd. Video gaming has been a obsession of my own alongside rock music. I virtually at all times have the radio high in volume whilst competing. Anyways, in case you haven't ever played the computer game SWTOR yet, it happens to be superb. If you've played out Wow in the past, you more or less understand the essentials of precisely how the game title games. It is basically indistinguishable in any feature with the exception of it's got a Star Wars theme. I the other day found a SWTOR leveling guide and went to town on my figure and managed to get rank fifty three in a matter of 5 days. I accumulated an amazing wealth in credits at the same time. The guidebook itself is labeled SWTOR Savior and I would suggest picking it up if you participate in this game because it is Really useful for quests, flashpoints, Player vs player combat and getting your credits higher.
