@pat4327: and @Solemn: we are going to push an update tomorrow which will just make the body font stack sans-serif. This will default to Helvetica Neue on Macs and Arial on PCs. I am basing this on Paul Irish work on the HTML5 Boilerplate. Some of you are getting Helvetica on PCs and it just doesn't look right.

If anyone wants to try and help debug this problem it would be much appreciated. We think its caused by either the gradient on the html tag (which right now we don;t even need on the back version of the site) or the box shadow on the #header box. Unfortunately I had Hexogen go through testing out some variations and it did not seem to help him. Just confirm if anyone who is capable of testing this in Crhome or other browser with inspect element turned on could you try turning off the gradiant, and or turning off the box shadow. Any other peeking around would be most appreciated. Especially since I personally can't recreate it.

@DivineCC: That would be a bug in what I assume is Firefox 3. I'll work on it.

I'm one to like visual direction, and the navbar, in my opinion, has needed some extra small touches. With the new bar, there is room for visual cues like icons. Like GunslingerPanda said, the forum tab spits out a list of stuff with no visual distinction as to the function/subject of each category. I would like to see some gray icons in the dropdowns for the static categories (only the menu items that don't change, not things like recent games, etc.). What do you guys think?  Also, I wasn't a fan of the previous design's full width menu bar - I like the new one that cuts off before the logo because it makes nav items on the left side easier to associate with page navigation rather than simple page elements. Alas, the community has spoken up about that being one of their least favorite changes, so I also included the full width design.  Yes? No? I suck? Sound off. "

Interesting take on that. I kind of actually love the bobcast bomb in that menu button. It might be a bit much to do it for all of them, but mught be nice for bombcast and have it light up for new casts (kind of like the hot donut thing with Krispy Kreme Donuts. I'll brainstorm with Dave on this a bit next week.

B0nd07 thanks for your mockup as well.

@HandsomeDevil: The all caps running through out the site was actually non intentional. A late change just to make the words Main Boards and Popular Boards went too far. My bad. As far as the user bar and having it not look great on white backgrounds.... yeah I know. We actually talked about it a bit on how to address this. We kind of figured people might actually like the ability to get a bit more creative with their pages. I mean look how awesome it looks on the bombcast page.

Dear Giant Bomb logo, I know. You don't look so great right now.  I neglected you while trying to figure out this CSS3 box-flex stuff and other tech things. If it makes you feel any better I just missed tip off on the UCONN game. I'll spend some quality time with you as soon as I can.

" Also, I've mentioned this before, but it would be awesome if you guys could get rid of that bloated border around the fly out menus on the top bar, and shrink the font by two or three points. That is pretty much the only thing that's bothering me, actually. I kind of preferred the original, changed font, but I s'pose there was enough of an issue to revert it.

As you can see from this image, there is a huge chunk of white space on the right that's unused and it's actually making my OCD freak out a little bit. And yeah as you can see, that incessant red border.

From you screenshot it looks like you are on a smaller monitor. The media query bug which I have mentioned should start to alleviate that next week. Basically smaller fonts for smaller monitors and we can really start tweaking.

That's because IE itself is awful! "
It's also the browser built into Windows, and therefore the most commonly used. "
You're right. We're in a forum totally filled with computer-retarded moms and dads who use nothin' but Internet Explorer. Stop the presses, stop catering to technologically proficient adults. Let's take it back ten years, duders! "

Like above, the media query bug is effing our ability to fix IE this weekend. Should be resolved soon though. I'd say monday, but as soon as I promise a day you know it will backfire on me. It won't ever be as perfect like Chrome, Safari, FF but it will certainly be a lot better than that screenshot from above. I forget what the percentage of IE users is on our sites but it  is no where near as high use as C,S and FF. That being said we still try and make it work right. There is no way I would let that stay like that for IE. Also whoe ever mentioned the favicon bug in IE, thanks. I'll have someone look into it.

You know what I hate? The logo. It doesn't feel right just yet. I don't know if extending the bar behind it is what will fix it, but clearly that is one of the spots that was not given enough attention. The all caps thing.... well I'm undecided. Most feedback I got when it was in this state  https://img.skitch.com/... liked it, but at this point going back to Helvetica Arial, it feels a bit tall.

As far as what else is missing... options and more responsiveness to different browsers etc. Some of the media query stuff didn't make it up on Friday due to a small tech issue but it's coming and the foundation is being put in there for us to be able to make more adjustments to different scenarios. 1024 monitors in particular will get smaller text etc.  We have a large crowd with lots of different monitor sizes and as you can see from the work that went into the chat redesign trying to give more options and flexible layouts is a good thing. We also want to do more with the video and review dropdowns (actually make them into dropdowns). Possibly putting the latest games with box art in there for quick access.

What do I like? The search. That thing is way better. I had no idea how to use it before. But now adding that extra hover state to the selected option makes my life easier. I also wanted to add a little hint in there that lets people know they can use their arrow keys to navigate it but alas that did not make it in.
