Recap of today's GOG.com/CDProjekt Conference. 05/04/12

Witcher 2 News

  • Since release last year, the game has received over 60 awards to date, and has sold over 1.1 million sales to date.
  • They showed a snippet of a new trailer that will be going live tomorrow.
  • The Enhanced Edition includes 4 hours of new gameplay; with 33 minutes of cinematics, 3.5 minute CG intro, and a proper outtro that helps clear up some questions people were having.
  • The Dark Edition has completely sold out already. And UK people who pre-ordered from Game will still get it, even with Game's recent mishaps.
  • The Enhanced Edition patch for existing owners will be roughly 10GB and we'll be able to pre-load it soon.
  • As of today the first game is available on Steam for Mac, with the Steam cross platform stuff.
  • There will be an interactive iOS (>:() app comic book app thing coming 17th April. Allows you to undress women... INTERACTIVELY.
  • Free back up copy at GOG for Witcher 2, for everyone who owns it already, and whoever buys it from now. Includes all special edition stuff. GOG.com/witcherbackup

GOG.com News

  • As we heard a couple weeks ago, they are no longer Good old Games, but just GOG.com. This means they are going to start selling newer games, of which Legend of Grimrock is the focus.
  • They have a brand spanking new downloader that they claim to be the fastest of all digital download downloaders.
  • They have a new website header which shows you PMs and forum stuff, much like what you see here.
  • GOODIES.
  • They will start selling newer Premium Editions of games. Starting with Ubisoft games, more specifically, Assassin's Creed and HOMM:V. There games will be $19.99 each, but until the 12th of April, you can buy both for $19.99.
  • We can also pre-order a new Adventure game: Botanicula: a point and click adventure/exploration game from the dudes that brought us Machinarium. $8.99 now until it's out and then $10 from then on.
  • Lastly, for the next 48 hours the original Fallout will be FREE. As in, zero pennies. So you really have no reason to not go and download it.

Maybe my Macbook will have a better chance of running The Witch: E.E. than my 6 year old PC.

Even though both Witcher games have bad design and are somewhat overrated, CD Projekt as a company are fantastic. I'd support them purely on the basis of the enthusiasm of trying to deliver the best product and service they can. It seems gaming is just a huge pool of cool cunts trying to fuck you in anyway they can. Really vile run by 40-50 year old men in suits who think they are down with the kids. E3 is a fucking embarrassment. Gaming websites are mostly assholes acting as PR and people are just running out buying shit shoved in front of them enough. Valve and CD Projekt are like a glimmer of light shimmering through a lake of shit while you drown and swallow gulps of stinky awfulness.

So EA and CD Project RED doing the same thing, having to explain their endings. Time to boycott!

I'm somewhat amazed EA didn't try to charge for it. Saying that though, they will probably try remarketing it. With IGN giving 50 Mass Effect articles every 3 minutes.

"best blue babe" "best bestest planet" "who would win if they fought with mars bars instead of guns?".

1.1 million sales for a niche fantasy game?

I thought PC gaming was dying. Funny.

Niche, high hardware requirement rpg. Also, they said that the first game sold over 2.2 million.

Anyone elsel think they can outsell the PC version on the 360? Hopefully Project RED doesn't go all console on us (though they probably make more $ off pc sales than console sales).

Still not going to make me leave Steam, but I do like free games. While not a fan of their games, itès nifty to see them support their games the way they do. Wish more places did it like that.

I wouldn't say it has high requirements at all. I can run it perfectly fine on a AMD 4850 which is a three or four year old card at this point.

I'v never understood why Project Red take the tone of "old school pc rpg". Aside from the visuals the Witcher 2 players like a console game ported to the pc. I'm pretty sure they made it with the console in mind.

I can see what you are saying though. Alot of former pc dev's get a wiff of console money then just bang out total shit on the pc.

It doesn't play like a console game at all, they just made sure they got the controller support right from the beginning. They probably always wanted to make an Xbox version of course, but I wouldn't say it plays like a console game.

Plays like Fable and Zelda. I understand other pc users probably don't like to hear that (why I have no idea Zelda is a good series) but it's fucking true. Then of course, you have QTE.

Dragon Age: Origins was more of an old school RPG. Before we had Dragon Age 2: Boogaloo.

Do delayed platform releases ever sell as well?

I think it may be over simplifying things to compare the sales 1-to-1 when it's all said and done.

Indie game wise, yes. In two weeks the pc version of "super meat boy" outsold the xboxlive versions entire duration. This is because pc gamers have mature minds and are totally open minded.

Doesn't really play anything like Fable or Zelda, but I agree that they pretty clearly had one eye on console during development. And you can see why, because 1 million sales for a game of this quality ain't really all that.

The game was on a $15 million budget, give or take. It cost more than the first one sure, but it doesn't need as many sales as your typical AAA game to break even and start generating profits. I'd wager they hit that mark already.

But of course no one can blame them for wanting more sales. And they do deserve getting more attention, IMO. They've always done right by their fans.

Alot of pc gamers still went out and just stole it regardless. Probably these idiots you see running around shouting "long live the bay!".

I bought it. I support the platform I enjoy the most rather than just act like a freeloading scumbag.

I agree. They deserve more sales and generally more attention on the basis of not being complete cunt like in nature. I don't really see them pulling a "Crytek" "Monolith Productions" "Epic" "ID" "Obsidian" or "Bethesda" and just putting out shit.

They seem to have a hippy like attitude to gaming rather than a corporate asshole one. Alot of them appear to be very young and full of spunk.

PC gaming is definately not dying, but 1.1 million in sales is peanuts for console games. As a positive, they get to keep a lot more money off those sales than with console games.

I have to disagree there, I don't think these types of games will sell all that great on console. Even Mass Effect 2 only sold around 2 million on 360 right? Or was that combined? Surely not combined.
