@Almak: It was most definately rushed (Fallout 2) and it shows horribly, I still loved it, but its also easy ... [more]
May be its due to a tendency of people to think that bigger is always better? After all Fallout 2 was a bigger game, all things considered. But I agree there was a lot missing from it. Just looking at the feature list of the Restoration Project mod I cant help but be amazed at how much content never actually made it into the game. I suppose I also prefer the first Fallout to its sequel if for nothing else than for the fact that the "lone hero" theme is much more cohesive in it. I lost count of how many times I played the game.
Up until it started getting some limelight again due to the hype and release of Fallout 3 the original Fallout. ... [more]
It might be better functionally (item management between friends and an option to actually push a character out of the way was a life saver for me) but most definitely not an overall better game. Personally I think one should play both in the order they were released, they wonderfully complement each other.
@ADDTasty: I wanted to like Aquaria so bad, and to a degree I did but those several issues I had with it ultimately won and I never did end up finishing it. Good game though all things considered.
I recently bought both Fallout 1 and 2 (for the third time) from GOG solely to have OSTs of those games. Mark Morgan is an amazing composer! I lost count of how many times I listened to this track alone:
This year, hands down Resident Evil 5. I wasn't expecting to like it at all, let alone play through it over 6 times. I'm really hopeful that Prototype is going to fall under this category as well but I'm beginning to loose faith there. :/
I'm on my second character right now but I saved over my last one so I don't have the exact data of that playthrough but on my current one I clock about 70+ hours which overall coupled with my 1st char would easily add up to over 120 hours of gameplay.
Without a doubt Fallout 3. Between actually exploring the general DC area and the DLCs I'm now around 60 hours into the game on my second character, 30 of which are this year alone.
A close second would have to be Resident Evil 5. I think at this point I'm on my 7th/8th play through of the game.
Gothic1/2. Strayed off the beaten path? Here have a nice dish of a boot up your ass... Also Half-Life 1. I still remember some of those ridiculous jumps I had to make in Xen. :/
Probably Fuel if for nothing else than for the fact that its open world but likely after reading some reviews first to be sure. I want to say Prototype but every time I see that game it looks less and less like something to which I would want to commit $60. :/ I guess I'll be dipping a bit into my backlog this/next month to finish up all the stuff I bought off of GOG.com and the like, we'll see.
