In-Depth #56: Phantasy Star Series Event: Phantasy Star (1) #1

Welcome to the first ever Series Event here on Now Loading In-Depth. Series Events are when I play through an entire series of games (or at least the ones I own) and give them all the NLID treatment. Plus, I think it will be fun to keep track of how a series evolves over the course of its games. As for this particular series event: ever since I got Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection which contains all of the Phantasy Star games (back when they were regular RPGs and not MMOs) I have always wanted to spend some time with Sega's RPG Franchise and see what it offered. For reference the games are Phantasy Star (Master System, 1987), Phantasy Star II (Genesis/Mega Drive, 1989), Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom (Genesis/Mega Drive, 1990) and Phantasy Star IV (Genesis/Mega Drive, 1994). The first thing to remember is I have never played these games, or at least not enough to know the fine details about them. The second thing to remember is that I will be playing most of these games with a walkthrough at hand... I will not suffer getting lost or stuck because of old-school game design that doesn't have enough obvious story triggers. I think that is enough intro time to start discussing the first Phantasy Star game which appeared on the Master System in 1987.

First things first... for the love of whatever you believe in... turn off the sound and music. Mute the TV and play a CD, grab your iPod, use the 360's music player; whatever you've got employ it! Don't believe me? Fine, but suffer the consequences once the screeching modem monsters start attacking you. In objective and realistic terms that means the music and sound are terrible and you won't want to listen to them. The second thing is get a walkthrough if you are going to get anywhere in this game. To start the game: enter a certain house in the first town to get a rare pot, head to an undisclosed town nearby and attempt to buy "secrets" from a shop keeper three times to get a passport, then head to the space port to go to another planet to give the pot to a man in a shop there to get your first party member... yeah, you won't figure that out. There are some clues but not enough to actually properly point you in that direction you'd only figure that out if you exhausted all possibilities.

If the difficult to find plot triggers were not enough, here is another reason you will want a walk through: Pseudo 3-D corridor based maze dungeons. You do get a compass and it tells you what direction you are facing but that does you little good if you don't know what that relates to. Maps are a must! As for the battle system, it's pretty typical for the RPGs of this time pick attack or pick magic and bash on enemies until they die. The only oddity with Phantasy Star is that because of hardware limitations you'll only see one sprite to indicate which monster you are fighting and others are represented by a list in the top right of the screen. This leads to a small issue I have: there is no way to select which of the group of monsters to attack, you just attack random ones on the list and this makes it hard to focus your attacks when there 3, 4, 5 or even more are attacking you. The other small issue is that you have to open a treasure chest for your money after every fight which adds to the time to the bit of old-school grinding that you will be doing.

I am actually enjoying Phantasy Star contrary to all the complaints I might have... a lot of old games are simply like this and you just have to learn to accept all their little issues if you are going to play them in 2012. It's also nice to just go back to a simpler time where the only plot motivation for the characters is "kill the evil boss dude, because he is an evil boss dude". I have spent about 4 hours with the game and I don't really know how much is left to go... it will have at least 2 updates I know that much and the second will be up in a couple of days or so. I will talk to you soon. (Monster Name) had a treasure chest. Do you want to open it? Loading Complete!

Now Loading Update (03.16.2012) - The Truth, 2012 Games and NLID

It was quite a busy day yesterday wasn't it? I wake up only to find that Giant Bomb is going to affiliate itself with GameSpot. What the ****!?!? Then I hear that Jeff Gerstmann is going to reveal all and finally bring closure to an indecent that not only screwed up the life of game critics everywhere but fractured the GameSpot community that was at its pinnacle back in late 2007. I was happy to see Jeff get this off his chest and even though Jeff's statement merely cleared up what we mostly already knew: mistakes were made and everyone paid for them. I think this collaboration can only mean good things for both communities . Giant Bomb gets the resources it needs to survive and with "Gerstmann-Gate" cleared up maybe some ex-GameSpotters will come back (there have been some rumblings). That's my thoughts on the subject.

2012 Anticipated Games
I figured this would be a good time to list my anticipated 2012 games. I'm going off the top of my head so I am probably going to miss a couple I'm sure.

MineCraft (XBLA) - Always wanted to play this but my PC would be eaten alive by the PC versions JAVA programming.

Borderlands 2 (X360) - I loved the first game, but it lacked polish in some areas that hopefully this sequel will fix.

Resident Evil 6 (X360) - I'm interested to see the changes to this sequel.

FarCry 3 (X360) - I am curious about this one to see if they fixed the issues I had with FarCry 2 (my most disappointing of 2008 winner).

Darksiders II (X360) - After playing the first game for NLID earlier this year I am interested in seeing how the sequel makes out.

As I said those are just some of the games off the top of my head, I am sure there are more or even new ones to add to the list as the year goes on.

Closing Out
That about covers it. Last thing though is the update on Now Loading In-Depth. I will be updating you on that tomorrow with NLID #56. I decided to go back to playing some old-school games and you might be surprised which one in the first "Series Event" of the year! I'll talk to you then. Loading Complete!

Now Loading In-Depth #55: Final Fantasy XIII #8 (Hiatus)

Let me start out by saying this: I did not come to this decision easily. It wasn't keeping me up at night or anything but it was weighing on me quite a bit. I'll be honest, though this might already be obvious: I don't like Final Fantasy XIII and no matter how much of it I play I am pretty sure that won't change. I will admit the game grew on me a little as I neared Chapter 10, but I still have 20+ hours to go if I am going to reach the end and honestly I don't really care what happens. I'm just not invested in the game, the story or the characters... I don't have enough of an attachment to follow through. And a pretty fun battle system is just not enough to motivate me to play another 20+ hours of a game I don't really like.

I had this happen with Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope back in Alpha's Picks 2010. It was the reverse for that game as I kind of enjoyed the first 20 hours, then the story went sour and I couldn't stand it after that. This is a common problem for me and J-RPGs: it is very rare that I get through them without having to really persevere. In fact I have never done it with the Final Fantasy series and only a handful of J-RPGs have ever been beaten from the first play to the ending. Most of them required certain methods of focusing: Alpha's Picks, RPG Completion Challenges and more. Final Fantasy XIII is unfortunately one of those games I might never finish... it's on hiatus and if I ever get in the mood to play it again it can always come back. My lack of energy and enthusiasm to play it was holding back In-Depth which I still have big plans for. I apologize to anyone who was enjoying my FF 13 coverage but it was just not meant to be.

As for what's coming up next on Now Loading In-Depth, I have a few ideas but I want to think about my options before I commit to anything at this moment. You should know in a few days what I have in store for NLID. I also have started Final Fantasy XIII-2 and I don't want to jump to conclusions or imply anything but I spent over 4 hours playing it in just one sitting. I will probably have an impression article on that too in the near future. The NLID hiatus count is up to three now: Banjo-Tooie, Skies of Arcadia: Legends and now Final Fantasy XIII... I don't want to make a habit of doing this but I also don't want to get stuck on a game that I don't enjoy and kill In-Depth. I really do enjoy playing games and then updating you on them, which also helps me keep track of my own thoughts as I play them. I will talk to you soon... go easy on me please FF13 fans, I gave your game a good run... it's just not for me. Loading Complete!

Finished Article: 3 Finished Quickies

Normally I write quite a bit for finished articles but today I'm not really in the mood to write a three super long finished articles so I am giving each game today a single paragraph to get my thoughts across. The three games that I am covering today are Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, SSX (2012) and Mass Effect 3 (spolier free). Time's a wastin' let's get to reviewing.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
*sigh* Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a pretty enjoyable game... to a point. If you decide to do all the side quest this KoA could possibly last you for 100 hours... the thing is that the side quests are so repetitive and simplistic that you will get sick of doing them after the first 50 or 60. It's not much fun to travel the length of an area to kill 5 things and then walk all the way back to be rewarded with 2,500 gold when you have amassed over a million. In fact there is a long running "task" quest that has you find ten books strewn across the world and once you get the final book at basically the last area of the game you get.... 250 gold. The other thing is by the time I was nearing the middle of the game I started using the quick travel feature if just to avoid the easy as hell combat (and travel over the overly huge area maps); by the end of the game my armor bonuses regenerated my health faster than the amount of damage I was taking... that's right! I was practically invincible. Kingdoms of Amalur is a enjoyable game but it over-stays it welcome.

SSX
*sigh* The SSX reboot has tons of potential... but its darkly toned "Deadly Descents" past comes back to haunt what could have been a really fun game. You see after the first couple of tracks on each mountain range the tracks become so full of pits and cliffs that force you to use you crappy rewind feature the game becomes a chore. I really wish they would have made some more just fun to race and trick tracks instead of focusing on making them dangerous. I love the new trick system with the animation cancel and even the racing isn't too bad but the tracks just don't work as well as the tracks in SSX 3 which where specifically designed for either tricking or racing. The single player mode is throwaway but the integration of online stuff is really cool with RideNet keeping track of times and score against your friends and grabbing someones geotag is very satisfying. Unfortunately the lack of enjoyable tracks cut the life of SSX down considerably. Maybe SSX 2 gets tricky and returns to having fun tracks.

Mass Effect 3
*sigh* This is going to be a short one because I can't really talk about anything I experienced in fear of spoilers. I will say though while I was slightly disappointed with the ending it was more because it was so short and not because of whatever everyone else is up in arms about. I would have liked to have learned more about how the universe got on after I did what I did. Oh, well. I was also slightly disappointed in the fact that a lot of your choices from the first two games merely boiled down to numbers called "War Assets". Saved the Rachni in the first game? After a short mission featuring them they become a war asset that helps you get the "best" ending and you never see them again. Fan of a certain character in Mass Effect 2? They'll probably show up for one mission, make an excuse why they can't help you and then become a number in your war room computer. It's a little sad to see this happen but its obvious why... there would be too many characters and some of them have simply moved on to different roles. The game has some fun missions though and you'll want to see the ending(s) for yourself. As I mentioned in the last post the multiplayer is really fun and with a good group of players is a really amazing co-op experience.

There you have it two disappointing games and a really good one. With Mass Effect 3 finished it is time to return to Final Fantasy XIII and NLID in which I will have an update as soon as I make some progress. Talk to you later. Loading Complete!

Now Loading Update (03.08.2012) - One Paragraph Update

This is going to a short one so I can't waste time. I'm busy playing Mass Effect 3 right now so I just wanted to give a quick update on what I have been doing the last 4 days. I was going to give impressions of Mass Effect 3 but a funny thing happened... I am hopelessly addicted to the game's *gasp* multiplayer mode. You play 11 waves of enemies, waves 3, 7, and 10 have objectives you must complete. The objective waves hand out credits, the credits are used to buy packs of cards which have random supplies (one use items such as Medi-gel, spare ammo, etc.), weapon attachments and/or weapons/character races for the different classes. It's an addicting method: you earn XP during matches to level your skill tree, you earn credits for packs of cards and do it all again, especially if you don't get that random rare weapon or character card you are looking for. I am going to work on the single player too, right after I finish this post in fact, so don't worry about that. Once I have enough time played in the main story I will post my impressions; spoiler free of course. Talk to you later. Loading Complete!

Impressions: SSX + Split Second

Welcome to a double impressions article featuring the newly released SSX and a game I meant to play a couple of years ago Split Second. I'm going to keep these short because I have gaming to do but I am going quickly cover the main points. GO!

SSX
- Amazing online integration with Geotags (player place collectables that earn credits based on how long they last in the world), explore mode and global events. The game is constantly updating you on what your friends are doing so you can go beat their scores. Global Events are like enter anytime tournaments that last a specific amount of time and usually pay out pretty big even as long as you can hit a decent score.

- I love how the trick system has the cIassic controls and how all trick animations cancel the second you let go of all the buttons. This animation cancel allows you to go bigger and risk holding tricks longer whereas in the first four games you had to know the timing of frames to land the bigger super tricks.

- The SINGLE PLAYER SUCKS. It's just in there because they felt they had to have a single player. It'll take 4 or 5 hours to complete depending on how you do on the Deadly Descents.

Here is the greatest offender right now... the TRACKS SUCK. After the initial set of courses on each level the tracks are so full of death pits and stuff that you can't possibly have a good run. I would have prefered them to have designed some more tracks just for racing and tricking than making the tracks based off deadly mountains.

- The rewind feature is DUMB. In races you lose ground so you may as well restart and in trick you take a huge penalty as if you losing your combo wasn't enough of a penalty. In the older games you used to just reset on the track but to make the ****ing descents more deadly they added this limited rewind feature. The problem is if you just simply get stuck on the side of the track you have to use this stupid thing... just reset me damn it!!

The nostalgia and excitement of a new SSX game has worn off and the true nature of this game is showing through. Even though the tone changed quite a bit from the originally announced SSX: Deadly Descents in my mind there is still too much of that **** in there to convince me this is an SSX game to the fullest. Less of a focus on "DEADLY" tracks and more of a focus on well designed and FUN tracks would have done wonders for this game.

Split Second
I picked this game up off Xbox Games on Demand. Even though I think I want to have an all digital download service for the Xbox I still have a hard time feeling like I "own" a game when I buy it in that fashion but I wanted to play it and I couldn't find it around. Anyway Split Second impressions.

- The powerplays are the main gameplay mechanic that keeps this from being just a generic racing game and... they work and they don't. You don't have boost in the Split Second so you must use you "power plays" effectively and wisely to even have a chance at winning. The problem is unless it is simply a massive explosion I don't find that many of them are that effective or require too much timing to use effectively. It is really frustrating to use a powerplay and feel like you timed it right only to watch it bounce off the CPU car in front screwing you out of that position or costing you the race. Unfortunately without the power plays, this game is pretty generic as I said. Lastly the icons for powerplays are too big and can block your view.

- Brilliant use of achievements. Every achievement you unlock is stuck to your car as decal and I assume when you go online the same thing would happen allowing everyone to see what you have unlocked at a glance.

- I actually like the TV show s.tyle presentation and I wish they would have taken it a bit further.... announcers... give the competitors more personality and stuff like that.

- You don't have to WIN EVERY RACE. This is a great design. A lot of arcade racing games force you to win every race to advance especially in the later tiers, but in Split Second as long as you have enough points (credits) accrued from the previous episode you can compete in what is called an Elite Race which if you succeed you move on to the next tier (episode) without even having to do a single race in the current tier. Though it is hard to fight off the need to win gold every single race.

Overall I am enjoying Split Second, I like it much better than the off road racing of Black Rock's previous game Pure. Unfortunately I don't think the powerplays mechanic is enough to keep this game from being a bit on the generic side. It's $20 on Games on Demand and I think it is worth trying... it's too bad Black Rock died because of this game because I think if they had a chance to tweak a few things they might have been able to make a pretty great game with a Split Second 2.

Closing Out
I think that about covers my thoughts on those two games. Next I am going to spend the day working on completing the main quest of Kingdoms of Amalur and on Monday I will have a finished article for that and believe me I have a lot to say about the game. Also on Monday I will be spending one last long session with Final Fantasy XIII before Mass Effect 3 is out on Tuesday. I have some busy times ahead so I have to get started. Talk to you later. Month-In-Review: February 2012

Welcome to Now Loading Month-In-Review for February 2012. Today we are going to take a look back at all the stuff I wrote this month not only to reflect but to have a nice collection of all the posts of the month. This was a pretty good month with plenty of Now Loading In-Depth to keep everyone reading. If I am going to beat the record of 150 posts in one year I might have to pick up the pace a bit. 150 posts averages out to about 12.5 posts per month so you have to average around 13 posts a month to just get to 156. Anyway, let's get to the recapping.

FEBRUARY 2, 2012
(NLID #49) In the second edition covering Darksiders I complained about the game's combat and slightly tedious puzzles... and the second set of stupid challenge rooms which must be completed to progress in the main gameplay. Luckly though there are only 2 of these.

FEBRUARY 8, 2012
(NLID #50) I finally hit the 50th edition of NLID and completed Darksiders. It's one of those games where I wasn't entirely sure if I liked it or not. It's a pretty good game and has some really cool ideas but I am not a fan of that s.tyle of combat it just doesn't grasp me. Overall though, I am pretty sure I enjoyed it nevertheless and recommend it, besides you'll like it even more if you enjoy the combo driven action game type combat.

FEBRUARY 10, 2012
This was a mostly unnoticed post covering my impressions of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning... I reckon that you will get tired of doing hundreds of meaningless fetch and kill quests for meaningless amounts of gold coins after about 20 hours. Do a few of them in each area and then move on with your main and faction quests as they are much better.

FEBRUARY 14, 2012
Post #700. This was a little bit late in its arrival coulda and shoulda been done by the end of 2011, but post #700 on Now Loading finally arrived. I didn't want to do another retrospective thing because I had just done the 7th Anniversary editorial five months earlier so I decided to cover the three RPG Playthrough Logs. They are pretty long to read and full of spoilers so be warned it you attempt to read them.

FEBRUARY 16, 2012
(NLID #51) I procrastinate. I am not going to lie. So when I promised to play Final Fantasty XIII a week ago when I finished Darksiders, I decided to come up with this reintroduction thing so I could buy myself a bit more time to actually play FF13. In retrospect it actually wasn't a bad idea as the last post for FF13 was October 18th, 2011.

FEBRUARY 20, 2012
(NLID #52) Four days later I had actually played some FF13 for the first time in 4 months. I manged to in 5 hours or so get through Chapters 5, 6 and get through about half of Chapter 7. I made some off the cuff comments about a few things and wasn't really clear on where I was coming from... so...

FEBRUARY 22, 2012
(NLID #53) I felt I had to attempt to reiterate my thoughts in a more clearly written blog post. I sometimes don't put my thoughts clearly down when I write and things get muddled. I feel I did a much better job explaining my ideas and thoughts on the gameplay design and battle system.

FEBRUARY 26, 2012
I decided it was time for a quick update after being a few days late with my promised Final Fantasy XIII coverage. I updated you on finding good and also horrible XBL Indie games and how boring and tedious Kingdoms of Amalur was starting to get.

FEBRUARY 28, 2012
(NLID #54) I finally played some Final Fantasy 13 and made some pretty good progress completing the last half of Chapter 7 and then Chapter 8 and 9. The game's first challenging boss is encountered at the end of Chapter 9 and took a bit of planning and a strategy to beat. Also, I think I wasn't clear again when I was explaining about Auto-Battle. I wasn't really trying to refer to my own realization, I was trying to make a point to any non-FF13 fan who might be reading that thought just like I did previously, that the game was all about press auto-battle to win, that it's a convenience tool not a magic win button. I'm on Disc 3 now and probably still have 20 hours to go but hopefully I can get it done by mid-March or so.

That's it, February 2012 in a nut-shell. In March I will have my impressions of SSX and coverage of Mass Effect 3 both of which are sure to push back the Final Fantasy XIII playing. Though if I am in to Mass Effect 3 it will probably be completed in 3 or 4 days so it shouldn't get in the way too much. After Mass Effect 3 there isn't really anything I can think of to get in the way of NLID until probably late summer. Tomorrow (March 1) I will have my impressions of the new SSX and after that I may try to get in an NLID or maybe try to get Kingdoms of Amalur a Finished Article. I will talk to you later. Now Loading In-Depth #54: Final Fantasy XIII #7

Hmmm... What to say that hasn't been said. Final Fantasy XIII has me in a state of confusion. I guess the game is starting to grow on me as the both the battle system and story pick up... but on the other hand I am still annoyed that it took over 20 hours for it to really get going. I guess a progress report is in order and I can talk a little about what I experienced during that progress.

On the 25th I finished Chapter 7 in which Hope and Snow finally had their confrontation and a boss fight against a giant gun ship. Chapter 8 was mostly cut scenes with Sazh and Vanille and ended with one of those "oh so fun" Eidolon battles; actually I never talked about Eidolon battles which have you quickly figure out how to fill that gauge before the doom timer runs out. They are mostly challenging due to trying to figure out how to survive and fill that stupid meter at the same time while under a pretty strict time limit. Chapter 9, 20+ hours in was where the party finally all met up as one and the difficulty of the battles picked up quite a bit. The final boss of Chapter 9 is the first boss that doesn't let you win... he will decimate you with magic if you don't concoct a solid strategy, in fact I failed about 4 times before I came up with this strategy. Lightning was my leader and I had an auto-shell ring and the better potions accessory. I also had Fang and most importantly Sazh almost just for his Haste buff in my party. After using a librascope, I shifted to a RAV/SYN/COM paradigm to get my buffs in, I used potions to keep my HP up, as soon as I was all buffed I switched RAV/RAV/COM and went to town keeping an eye on my HP levels and tossing potions after every couple of chains. After that it was rinse and repeat if my buffs went down and as long as you switch to RAV/RAV/COM to stun him when he is preparing his super attack you will win. You cannot "auto-battle for the win" this boss there is no way... Here is the thing: you use auto-battle to help you select the proper moves because you just don't have the time to manually select abilities; it is a tool for efficiency not an automatic win button.

There. That is everything I think I needed to talk about. Hopefully that little strategy isn't a spoiler for any one who hasn't played that reads this. Also if I do talk about the story I will do so at the end just to avoid misconceptions or making ignorant comments. I have started Disc 3 and chapter 10 which I will start on soon... it probably gets harder from here but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, though it is very pinpoint. Tomorrow is Month-In-Review where I review all the posts I made during the month and on Thursday I will probably have impressions of the new SSX game. NLID #55 will probably be Saturday depending on how much playtime I get in. And it will probably have to be a lot because next week is Mass Effect 3 which I am sure will take up most of my time that week. Regardless I will try to have another FF13 update as soon as I can. Talk to you later. Loading Complete!

Now Loading Update (02.26.2012) - Stalling For Time

Hi guys. Welcome to a Now Loading Update. I know I promised Final Fantasy XIII coverage on Friday or Saturday but while I have played a bit more of that game (all of Chapter 7) since I don't really feel as if there is anything to talk about that is worth an update. I do how ever plan to play a whole bunch today and hopefully I will encounter some more interesting things I'll want to discuss. Anyway, here is what else I have been doing.

I have been trying a lot of Xbox Live Indie Games with EightBitWarrior. There are definitely some gems to be found and for only a $1 but digging through the crap is very difficult. In fact we probably found the WORST GAME EVER made called Boxed-In. If you want to see this piece of crap in action check out THIS VIDEO by EightBitWarrior. As for the good stuff I'll talk about that in a later update I want to keep this short.

I've been working on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning... more like Kingdoms of Amalur: Running. You just run around these huge areas, kill monsters and complete quests that usually only give out sums of gold... of which you will make more of from the loot drops that you encountered. This is the only game where I would nearly recommend that you use the quick travel feature. I'm gonna be working on getting this one simply completed as doing quests has lost all meaning for me now.

I think that about covers what I have been doing the last few days. I will attempt to have another Final Fantasy XIII update on Tuesday the 28th just before Month-In-Review. Speaking of the 28th, the SSX reboot is finally coming out and from what I have played of the demo released earlier this week it is going to be great! I will talk to you then. Loading Complete!

Now Loading In-Depth #53: Final Fantasy XIII #6

This isn't going to be a progress update and I am not really sure you can call it a real NLID edition, but feel like I missed the point a few times in the last update so I have to clear things up as well as add a few new things to the table.

First let me start with that POORLY worded "they didn't know what they wanted to do..." statement I made. That is a byproduct of how I write; it's all in my head and I kind of just pour it out... and sometimes that leads to me being unclear about my real ideas. Sometimes things get simplified as I write them as I already know what I mean in my head. Believe me I have no idea how the development process went for Final Fantasy XIII... That idea was a feeling I was getting from the game; an impression based off what I had played so far (about 15 hours) and what I have heard about the later stages of the game. I never intended any aggressiveness or anything by it I was just attempting to share a thought and because of my bad wording it came off a bit harsh. I know you'll have to take my word for it and it might seem like back-peddling but that was just something that popped into my head during that session so I wanted to share it.

Next the battle system comments. I had a revelation to be sure, but never in a million years did I think that little trick would get me through the whole game. If there is one thing that I will agree with the fans on is that it takes more just pressing auto battle to win and win quickly. I don't know where people get the impression that the battles are just hit auto-battle and win.... The battle system is so fast paced that you have to almost use your action game reflexes to shift paradigms and keep up with the ever changing conditions of the battle. There were a couple of times where I lost a battle just because I gambled on one more turn without healing or didn't keep an eye on my buffs and paid the price. It is that essential to keep your head in the fight. It's a good battle system and now that its starting to click I am enjoying it more. To summarize: I think the combat right now is the one thing that I can get behind as of this point.

As for the comments on the two person battles I was simply trying to say if I had three people I would not have to change paradigms to utilize that strategy which was a winning one in that case. Lastly, I'm still not sure why you'd design a battle system around 3 people and than force the player to only 2 for longer than most games even last. To me it's silly to hold back your good gameplay from the player for 25+ hours just so you can tell your story... because of that I don't think you can really be hard on anyone who didn't like FF13 right away it makes an iffy first impression... of course people are going to not get hooked and enjoy the game when they have to spend the play time of two full games to get to the "good" parts. It's just silly to think otherwise.

This is why I enjoy writing Now Loading In-Depth so much, because every time I talk about the current game my feelings maybe different... in NLID #45: FFXIII #4 I was still leaning the way of Final Fantasy Corridors, now, if it keeps picking up I might almost be over that. With that said, Final Fantasy XIII now has the most coverage of any game that I have played on NLID to this point, so that's another thing it's got going for it ;). I'm going to try to get the next update for the game out by Friday so look forward to calling me out on stupid **** I might say then Final Fantasy XIII fans! Sometimes I no write so good.
