And let me guess, your PS3 is an 80gb version with software emulation of the EE and not an original 20/60 GB PS3 with full hardware backward compatibilty?

Doing a quick google search on Persona 4 on the PS3 shows that Hardware BC PS3's have no problem with Persona 4 and that "software" BC PS3's are showing problems.

I stand by my original statement, the original PS3's (20/60 gig initial release models) with both the EE and GSX chips have damn near flawless PS2 backwards compatibility.

@Pazy: Because it's a hold over in the OS from the units with EE/GSX or GSX built-in?

@Metal_Gear_Sunny: What, the original 20/60 Gig configurations with Hardware Emulation?  Damn near flawless.  There were like, one or two games that have problems.

Just a quick correction for an otherwise great show.

The current PS3 slim and any of the current PS3 fat models have no PS2 backwards compatibility of any sort, Hardware or Software.

The versions of the PS3 that had "Software" emulation still relied on Sony including the PS2 Graphics chips (the GSX) and they just emulated the PS2 CPU (the Emotion Engine).  Once they stopped including the GSX as well as the EE, even software emulation was no longer possible.

Brief History
The initial runs of the PS3 (20 and 60 Gig) include both the EE and GSX chips, basically an entire PS2 in the PS3 box.  This provided near flawless PS2 Backwards Compatibility.

Sony Releases a new version of the PS3, the 80 gig, along with a $100 price cut.  As part of the cost cutting the Emotion Engine chip is dropped from the design (but the GSX is still left in).  They are able to emulate some of the EE in the Cell processor, so Software Emulation is announced.

Sony quietly releases new revisions of the PS3 (a new 80Gig w/ MGS or Drake's fortune packed in, 160 Gig), and drops the GSX chip as a further cost cutting measure, thereby dropping support of even "Software" PS2 compatibility.
