Wowsa. Lots of responses.

Erm, where do I start? I guess I'll just start addressing comments as I see them.

It's mainly for gaming that he does this. He does it for sports too, but honestly, who doesn't? I sure like to yell at players when they screw up.

I could tell him to man up / quit complaining etc, but I know for a fact that wouldn't end well. It'd just make things worse. The problem is he is my roommate, so we're constantly in the same room. If I play Helldivers he'll typically join in (which I don't mind), but when I crank the difficulty up, then he gets frustrated (which I do mind).

In some ways he's definitely immature. His vocabulary is a direct reflection of that: he tends to use a lot of immature phrases / statements / slurs that I presume he picked up in high school and have been so heavily ingrained by now (he played in higher-level ranked gaming back in the day with a group of buddies, so I think he was just immersed into that immature culture).

Really I guess I can either let it slide as usual or bring it up to him, but I know if I bring it up it'll be taken personally. So really I have one shitty choice that continues, or another shitty choice that... might continue anyways. :/

My roommate and I have been playing a lot of Helldivers recently (a very difficult game at times that requires everybody to be on the ball). I like cranking up the difficulty because 1) it gives us better rewards and 2) I enjoy the challenge and overcoming it. The problem is how my roommate reacts when we lose.

If we lose more than once, or even if he's killed just once or twice for stupid reasons (very common in a game like this), it almost immediately sets him off. He starts throwing these mini tantrums in that he swears and shouts about "how this is the gayest shit in the world", or " how "the other player is a complete idiot". If we try and fail a few more times he just becomes uncommunicative, completely ruining the fun until we either switch the difficulty down and he starts winning without trying, or we stop playing.

It's immensely frustrating for me because I see this as childish be behavior: I've been frustrated by games before, sure, everybody has, but for this roommate if he ever gets stuck on anything, in any game, it immediately turns into a song and dance about how the game is " cheap " or "stupid". This game specifically has been a clear indicator because it's so tough.

My question is, how do I deal with this? His attitude can ruin the game entirely sometimes. It's annoying, and I see him as being a man child whenever he throws his spats. But I don't know what to do or say to help the situation.

Does reading count as a hobby? I feel like it might, what with how illiterate it seems most people are. I get lost in reading for hours at a time (I think I find more enjoyment out of that than video games tbh)

Otherwise, you can learn a useful skill? Why not try learning some HTML and javascript, and playing around with websites? Or, pick up something like woodworking, or painting, or anything really. There's an absolute crapton of things you can do with your spare time to increase your skills.

Think of it as an RPG, and you're building your stats :)

Appreciate all the responses guys, especially the "stop being an idiot and man up"-esque posts. You guys are all really helpful, and true, texting is the worst way to communicate that we have in today's world. I just gotta calm down, and having a multitude of voices telling me to stop being an idiot will help me to realize this lol.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

EDIT: Unless you're from outside the USA... heathens.

EDIT: ...j/k

When I had my wisdom teeth removed (two at a time for all four, twice the fun and twice the experience!), i think I was out for no more than a week. I think the first 3-4 days were the tough ones, and then after that I was eating normal food again.

So if your mouth is all scabbed up (and by scabbed up, I mean, it doesn't bleed if you look at it the wrong way), you might consider grad'yating to some solids!

Having said that, I would take professional advice over my very clearly amateur advice in this matter.\

EDIT: Fuck canker sores. I sometimes get them if I neglect to brush for one (ONE) night. It's ridiculous. Hope it heals soon! listerinize that sucker to oblivion!

Thanks guys, much appreciated. It just makes it immensely frustrating when I'm trying to get to know her and/or see if she wants to meet up, and I get very little contact.

@marz said:

probably a talker/face to face kinda person and not a texter... or she's getting with dudes left and right behind your back... j/k

Q~Q Oh sweet Jesus why

Thank you. I seriously need this, I've been driving myself mad thinking about it.

And I want you all to know, I very rarely text her. Today I texted her, but it was the first time since Friday that I had made an attempt to contact her, which actually brings me to another question: Should I go long times without texting her? Is that good? Is that bad? Does it make it look like I don't care/ is it bad to let things cool like that for several days?

I truly am quite clueless on a lot of this stuff.
